Udrih or Sergio to go?
Both Udrih and Sergio seem like perfect second options at the point, so the question is who will get the minutes off the bench. Evans most likely will play some 2-guard at times which will create even more left over minutes but it's still not enough for the both of them. I think the kings are working on some kind of package deal involving K-9 and one of the point guards. Beno is a great back-up and his contract may be hard to move, so maybe Sergio is the odd man out. They must like Sergio in some way because he cost us the 31st pick which we could have used on Dejuan Blair, instead we got Jon Brockman( just as undersized as Blair ). No disrespect but Blair is clearly the better player. I read that the kings may want a back-up center instead of bring back Diogu so maybe thats what we trade for. Seeing that every team neeeds depth at the point guard position we could easily find front court help by packaging either Beno or Serio along with K-9 for a decent big man.
If they plan on trading one or the other, who is to go. Also what big man can we get to rotate with Thompson and Hawes?

Neither, sadly
I don’t think either will be dealt this off season. It would be a lot nicer to have those minutes freed up for Evans, but I doubt we can trade Beno because of his big contract and I doubt the front office will want to trade Sergio because we just got him.
No one wants Beno's contract
Beno and Woof’s contracts are going to indefinitely close some options for the kings this offseason. Sergio is a solid pickup who seems to play comfortably as a back up and will bring energy and speed off the bench (similar to jackson but with a terrible shot). Sadly, I do not see the kings getting rid of Beno unless we packaged him with Martin, Shock, or Hawes, which is highly unlikely.
Another idea to consider is that the kings staff still has hope in Beno, and by drafting Evans it will give Beno the notion that he hasn’t been completely pushed out of the picture.
Nevertheless, both Beno and Sergio are solid roster members and Beno’s only downfall as a back up is his inflated contract.
Sergio's only downfall as a back up
is his inflated ego…

What, you aren't satisfied with bashing Sergio on Blazers Edge?

I like to mix it up
you know… bash a player here, bash a player there. I’m not limited to just one site. I might have to find someone else to make random jokes about though…

Most teams carry 3 PG's
Especially when one is a rookie in training. This is not really an issue until the rotation gets settled. Maybe something shakes loose by the trade deadline.

Did you just compare me to Beno Udrih?

You’ve made a powerful enemy, my friend.

Everybody talks about Beno's contract like he's making $20M
He’s making the MLE. That’s not terribly out of line, even for a backup PG.
NOH- Antonio Daniels $6.2M
NYK- Chris Duhan $6M
CLE- Daniel Gibson $4M
POR- Steve Blake $4.9M
I think he’s serviceable and tradeable.

would you take Beno over one of those four?
and they are all back ups (well, maybe not Blake). Beno earned our ire and soured the League on his minutes this last year as a starter. As a back up his numbers should be more comparable.

Right
I said these guys were all backups.
And Beno is a serviceable and tradeable backup.
He’s not going to be another K9. Somebody at some point will take him in trade, even if he’s just a throw-in to make salaries match up.

I am with you LPA
Beno is not awful, terrible, the worst guy in the league, etc – or however the hyperbole is painting him this week.
But going back to your recent post – he has to bring the effort. He has to prove commitment. Maybe John Brockman can give him lessons.
There is no doubting that Beno has skills. He has a decent mid-range game, he can bring the ball up, he can drive and kick ok – he is just so rigid and predictable – like he plans his moves and reacts poorly. Unfortunately, in the NBA where they play chess, too often this past year Beno was playing Shoots and Ladders. Under Paul Westphal and with encouragement from Geoff Petrie I expect to see Beno playing a lot the first half of the year so they can polish up his stats and maybe package him in a deal.
We know Beno mch too well so we figure – that would have to be one heck of a deal. Optimistically, I see the Kings winning more games this year and that should help sell Beno. I don’t see him being pine splinter material like K9 either.

Over Beno's stats last season were not that much different from his stats during the 07-08 season
and during the end of the season, the last 7 games he was averaging over 6 assists per game which starts to put him in fairly eleite territory. I have been suggesting that Beno may take all the stuff that has been written about him and come into camp with a chip on his shoulder wanting to prove what he can do. If he comes in playing like he did at the end of the season, the new guys are going to struggle to get minutes.
He never seemed to get along or communicate well with Natt. One thing that Westphal is noted for is his ability to get along and communicate with players and I’m going to assume that he is going to take the view that with him, all the players come in with a clean slate and it is going to be up to them to show the coach what they can do or not do. If Beno comes in with a good attitude and playing up to the level he has shown he is capable and is able to sustain that I think he will prove that he is a tradeable piece and the question then will be if we want to trade him or not.
If Beno comes into camp with a bad attitude, sulking then all bets are off and he’s going to spend a lot of time riding pine. What is he going to do? I have no idea but training camp is not all that far off. He could be traded in the meantime but I don’t think we’ll get much for him at this point. It would be to everybody’s advantage if Beno came into camp and played the first part of the season well. We’ll see.

Difference
Everybody talks about Beno’s contract like he’s making $20M
When you look at how much these players are guaranteed on the rest of their deals, this is how it really looks:
Antonio Daniels – $6.2 million (Free agent 2010)
Duhon – $6 million (Free agent 2010)
Gibson – ~$17 million (Free agent 2013)
Blake – $4.9 million (Free agent 2010)
The Albatross – $25 million (Free agent 2013)
So Gibson makes a LOT less money over the next several years and is a three point specialist. The Albatross specializes in nothing, and in the sense of what he’s owed, Albie is making $20 million.
The Sergio scouting report
Oh yeah I think you did real good in the draft and I hope and want and expect the Kings to be better next year. Sergio’s handles and passing skills are for real, his defensive problems are real as well but are never from lack of effort.other teams will just double on Martin and dare him to take a jump shot, good luck with that.

Beno's problems were not all about the numbers
His attitude sucked. He constantly blamed his teammates for his failures. If we are going to get any value out of him in trade I think he has to prove that he can be a team player. I don’t think Big Pop leg him go because he wasn’t a serviceable back up point guard, I think he let him go because he had an attitude problem. So until that gets fixed who would touch him? I hope Westphal can father him a little into being a more respectful player.
