No charges, no implications. Just a young kid in the wrong place at the wrong time. Now can we please STFU about this and move on to his playing ability?

Amen

I’ll go ahead and trust the police in a murder investigation that I know nothing about.

because clearly the police would make every effort to not arrest someone guilty of a crime.

I’m on board Tyreke, carry us home.

He's gonna 'REKE havoc'. get it?

No

What are you hinting at?

Perhaps I’d get it if it weren’t so subtle.

If they start saying that in game commentary

I’m going to hunt you down, find you, and insult your mother. To your face.

Let's just hope he's not terrible...

because ’REKE works just as well the other way.

Reek = Stink

Wreak = Inflict

Maybe if he gets us a few W’s, he’ll earn the latter.

The draft lottery has reinforced my belief that there are not enough bad words in the English language.

Does this mean I have to knock it off with the snarky "driver" references?

I’m not sure if I’m ready to let those go yet. Can I have some sort of allotment… say one per week, decreasing over time until the season starts? Please?

by AnotherStupidSN on Jun 26, 2009 9:00 PM PDT reply actions   0 recs

See, that's pretty funny.

But then there’s the whole “murder” thing. I dunno, I’m torn.

by AnotherStupidSN on Jun 26, 2009 9:09 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

On second thought

It occurred to me that a kid did actually get killed, so this is kind of in poor taste. Right?

by AnotherStupidSN on Jun 26, 2009 9:08 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

i am glad that evans is professional enough to discuss it.

by gedrosolan on Jun 26, 2009 9:15 PM PDT reply actions   0 recs

haha, he’s also very skilled at “driving” to the basket. lol, sorry, i couldn’t help it.

by boffacheerios on Jun 26, 2009 9:22 PM PDT reply actions   0 recs

As long as he was clean about it and not all shady, that's cool with me

I was also big on Rubio billboards everywhere, saying “Viva la Rubio!” Ah, well. If the Maloofs are even that high on Evans and GP was on the same page as them, they must have all seen something in Evans that they didn’t in Rubio. I’m all for it.

After all my bitching about the pick

I have moved into acceptance and find that I am liking this guy.

I’ve watched all the interviews, listened to him on Carmichael Dave, seems like a well grounded guy. His Memphis coach was on and he absolutely loved Tyreke. At one point coach told him “I love you” and Tyreke replied with “I love you too coach”

I just hope and pray he can distribute the ball. PW addressed it a bit in the press conference, saying Tyreke is going to have to do things without the ball, because they have other player who need the ball too.

OK, I’m happy now. Welcome to Sac Tyreke. Can’t wait to see you play.

Thanks Section

I vote for an instaban on all these idiotic, ill informed, and juvenile posters who want to make light of that tragic incident.

Having said that, I really wonder what happened after the shooting occured. Did Reke keep driving, or turn in his cousin, or attempt to cover it up until his cousin was busted? The answers to these questions(which we’ll probably never have) would really say a lot about his character.

With the fourth pick of the draft the kings select...

Want to know what you would think?

You would more worried about getting home to safety before whoever your cousin shot at comes back to shoot at you.

by bignerd on Jun 26, 2009 9:55 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

I don't know how much it says about his character.

Sometimes we freak out when something bad happens and we do things we don’t want to do out of panic. We’ve all covered up some of our mistakes for fear that we’d be punished. Those mistakes probably weren’t as big as being the unwilling driver in a drive-by shooting, but we weren’t there so we don’t know anything. We don’t know if he was under pressure from other people to keep quiet if that’s what he did. We don’t know if his cousin pointed the gun at him and told him to keep driving. We don’t know if he just panicked and hit the gas pedal. We don’t know if he felt any remorse or not.

We can only go by what Tyreke, witnesses, his cousin, and the police report say and we’ll have to leave it at that. Let’s judge his character from what he does from here on out.

by jveezy on Jun 26, 2009 10:04 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

We often forget...

We often forget how so many of these players grow up in vastly different conditions than most of us. To even be put in a situation like that speaks volumes on what kind of environment Tyreke and other NBA prospects grew up in. So annoying to see the prejudice-fueled attacks spewed on this board.

by JETisKing on Jun 26, 2009 11:09 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

Can't believe I am going to say this

Take a cue from a certain fan base. Gloss over the shady, questionable past and just embrace the superficial glory of his basketball greatness.

by bignerd on Jun 26, 2009 10:04 PM PDT reply actions   1 recs

Oh that's right

Because every player who has played for the KIngs hasn’t had a shady past. Do you even follow this team?

Kevin is the best player on the team for now, but soon Evans will be the face of the franchise

with JT becoming a leader with Kevin. It’s going to be nice to see this team mature. They have very decent parts. Westphal is going to play a fun brand of ball. We’re a little thin up front, maybe add another front court piece in a few years.

This nucleus is a nice mix because the young guys have become the vets such as Kmart and Garcia. Casspi will push Donte. Sergio and Benu will definitely be fighting for pt….and if Evan’s history is anything, he’ll work hard to be one of the best players in the league. He’s dominated on every level, why not expect that to happen in the NBA?

Lastly, Westphal made some great points about Evan’s position. He’ll be guarding the 1’s and that’s going to be such a huge improvement over our lack of guard defense. No longer are we were going to be seeing guys just breaking the defense down

If evans is going to be the face of the franchise...

can he invest part of his millions in Invisalign? Would increase his marketability alot.

Hope

by Ultrakingsfan on Jun 26, 2009 10:51 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

Word, ForLife.

Amen to that. Whether or not Evans will be at the 1, I have a feeling he’s going to do very very well. It’s also nice to hear all three of our draft picks to be so psyched about playing for Sactown. Beautiful.

Now can the rest of you stick to talking about basketball? Or is the Rubio bitterness still there? If so, snark away.

by JETisKing on Jun 26, 2009 10:59 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

Honestly, Rubio's just drama...you don't need that kind of attention

Who know how good he’ll be. Hopefully he stays with the twovles because Kahn is correct in saying that if any team can wait for Rubio, the twolves can. The kings simply couldn’t wait for Rubio.

Tyreke and Jon, welcome to the 916!!!

by JETisKing on Jun 26, 2009 10:53 PM PDT reply actions   0 recs

Rubio is going to be sooooo soft

guys like Tyreke want it more. they have more pride. maybe its where they’ve come from.

vlade, peja, ricky…sure all “nice” guys but when the game is on the line they curl up into a little ball and suck their thumb.

as much as i respect vlade as a person, he was terrible as a mentor to brad miller. brad used to be a banger until he learned how to play soft and “act” from vlade.

by kingz2012champz on Jun 28, 2009 12:40 AM PDT reply actions   0 recs

Whatever

Vlade is “soft” because he had a reputation for flopping. Except for the fact that he solidly defended the biggest (read “Shaq”) in the NBA as successfully as anyone.

And Brad used to be a banger? That’s news to me.

Sure, I remember

I still don’t remember being a banger, but I do know he pissed off Shaq. ;)

vlade was just happy to be alive

vlade saw so many terrible things in his country he was just happy to be here and be alive

smoking, no weight lifting, no exercising, flopping, joking around vlade was never going to take a team to the promised land but i’m sure he was fun to have as a teammate

he didn’t have the mental toughness to believe he could beat the lakers and his mind proved him right. he still to this day thinks the lakers are the greatest

we need a star that is focused. FOCUS WINS CHAMPIONSHIPS!

Oh please
vlade saw so many terrible things in his country he was just happy to be here and be alive

This is idiocy. I guess everyone who has lived through war in their home country doesn’t really feel the need to achieve anything the rest of their lives?

So are you laying the playoff losses to the Lakers at Vlade’s feet?

P.S. Try hitting the “reply” link.
