Don't underestimate the stupidity of the Clippers
Last week I posted a Beno for Camby deal. Many blasted the idea saying the Clips would never do it. Today, Chad Ford says in his ESPN Chat that the Clips (apparently the owner Stirling) rejected a deal for Darko's expiring for Zach Randoph's mammoth contract! I guess you can also say "don't underestimate the stupidity of the Grizzlies" because I think the proposal was nearly as stupid as turning it down. Thus, I repeat, you don't have to offer equal value to some teams to make trades (e.g. Paul Gasol to Lakers).

Yea but who's buddy buddy with GP?
Adelman, but he’s not that stupid.
With the fourth pick of the draft the kings select...
Wait... what?
what does Adelman have to do with the Clippers or Grizzlies or anything related to this fan post at all?

I was trying to say
and poorly I might add that in order for us to get a Gasol type deal as refernced in the post that we need someone from another orgqanization to hand us a freebie. The last line states "You don’t have to offer equal value to some teams to make trades.

Well
the salaries don’t match, so the trade doesn’t work without more players. Randolph makes $16.5 mill this season, Darko only $7.5 mill.
Yeah
but they were still stupid to turn it down. Darko’s an expiring and none of the other players Memphis would have sent them would have longer contracts than Randolph. It could’ve been Randolph for Darko and Jaric, which would’ve saved the Clippers like $9 million

wrong...
Griz are so far under the cap that they can take back more in contract than they send out… that is true of the Kings as well (at least $7.5M), thus the camby for beno deal has the Kings taking back more this year than is going out…. however, Camby’s contract expires after next season… making it even more attractive.

Good point longtimelistenerfirsttimecaller
I forgot Memphis was/is well under the cap. And I don’t disagree with the Clips/Sterling being stupid for passing on a chance to unload Randolph, only that the exact pieces being offered may not have been relayed. Now lets get Camby :)
A role player that averaged a double double plus two blocks per last year
For the one year left on his contract, he would fit in nicely with Hawes and Thompson up front. I’d deal Noc or Beno for him in a heartbeat, but the Clips won’t return my calls.

This role player
Is still one of the best help defenders in the league. He also is a great shot blocker (which is kinda why he’s such a good help defender) as well as rebounder. He is an underrated passer and he’d fit in nicely with Shock and Hawes.

Yeah, now that I think about it
Camby might be the ultimate guy for a 3 man rotation of Hawes, Camby, and Thompson. The only big problem with Camby is age.

I see Camby's age ...
… as what makes him good fit. 20 or so minutes of quality time doesn’t over use him, while still leaving 38 minutes each for Shock and Hawes. 30 or so if you want cut in 10 to 15 for The Brock to do his cooking.
If the gloves fits
you can’t commit.
Guess it is not happening

Camby has a lot of interest...
Ric Bucher has said several teams are vying for Camby as the interest for Randolph is non-existent. He claimed there is a lot less interest in Kaman as he has a big contract with several years left; however, he has enough value that he could be moved. The Clips apparently are trying to move Kaman rather than Camby for that reason, and this makes sense. Camby comes off the books in a year, and they have (with the exception of Baron Davis) a great, cheap, young team with Griffin, Thorton, and Eric Gordon as building blocks.
Thus, I would be very surprised if the Kings were able to move their worst contract with several years left for Camby. We would have to throw in a 1st round pick at the very least, so I just don’t see it happening.
More realistic is Kaman gets moved for spare parts and expiring contracts. I could OKC or Memphis taking a flyer on him, and they have the cap space to make it work.
Kaman is nearly impossible to move because he has a $7.5 milion trade kicker.

i’d be surprised if any owner wanted to pay that.

Clippers came out ahead.
The trade Sterling rejected included Marko Jaric’s contract. Now they dumped Z-Bo’s deal, cleared up cap space this year, and got just Q’s expiring deal.
This phrase isn’t typed too often but: Great move by the Clippers
