WTF, OKC?
Is anyone else confused by this? All you need is cash and a pick in the mid-twenties to get Amir Johnson and the 15th pick? Is this deal open to anyone, or is it some sort of void where prohibited thing? I'd way rather have Amir Johnson for this price than Ike Diogu. Somebody hold me.

That is pretty ridiculous
Petrie needs to jump in if the Kings have the cash. We do have a better later 1st rounder too. I’m almost willing to throw in the 31 as well

The maximum allowable is $3M,
which is a lot of money obviously, but doesn’t seem like it should be enough to keep you from doing this deal. I say hire a volunteer coach if it clears up enough cash to get this done. Ex G is asking for $1M, but I bet he’d lower his price to free if you pushed him.

His contract is about $3.6 million this year
but we can absorb the rest of it due to being under the cap

Interesting...
I think the Kings could have the 15 pick for the 31st in this scenario. If Detroit is looking for a cash dump, the first pick in the second round is a better value then a late first rounder due to its non-guaranteed status. I also wouldn’t mind seeing Amir Johnson, a guy who has above average shot blocking ability and who has played behind probably the best position post defender in the NBA in R. Wallace. My only draw back is that the salary, + the 3 mill purchase price, + the salary slot for the #15 pick is a lot of cash. If Amick is correct about the salary constraints regarding the coaching search, I have a tough time buying the Maloofs offering up this kind of cash/salary/salary. I guess we can hope! How about Petrie makes this deal and then rolls the pick to get the #2, basically picking up both the player they should want in Rubio, a cheap one year young shot blocker and keeping the #23 in tact to take the athletic rebounding small/power the Kings need (Young, Hansbrough, Lawal).

Right
The Kings only have 8 guaranteed players next season anyway; they’re gonna see even fewer people in the stands if they try fill the open roster spots with bottom-of-the-barrel $1-$2M free agents. And, like you said, if they don’t see Johnson as part of the future, he becomes a perfect trade chip in 2010: young, athletic, big, relatively cheap, and expiring.

It would be stupid to not try and crash this party

And we can offer a better pick too.

If we can trade the 23 for the 15 and Johnson
that’d be a nice deal for us.
