Cowbell Kingdom: Pie Worth Fighting Over
It's long and wonky, but Evan at CK has a great post on the finances of the team and the upcoming CBA negotiations.

Nice ...
let’s hope the Maloof’s change their minds and spend next year
Sugar ... water .... and, of course, purple.
You have to have significant money to acquire a Free Agent on the market
Is 6 million dollars significant cap space?

It's only 200K less then the MLE
Owners and Players are going to have to cut back about 25%

I got something that I'll work onto as the opposite of Evan
But, I’ve always felt (and feel still) that this is all posturing to maneuver the players into the absolutely worse position the owners can.
I personally hope that the owners do that so more players go oversea’s, owners start complaining about the length of short term contracts, and everything else. Owners want to have it all their way every time. And, the players do too. And, so do the fans.
This is going to be a lot of fun. A lot of ignorance is going to be headed your, and mine, and everybody else too, way HT.

And, don't spend this year.
We have about $6M in cap space now, and 2 more roster spots to fill at the Center & PF positions. Any contract over 1 yr in length will eat into next yrs cap. And, where will next yrs cap be? The league has suggested maybe as low as $51M-$53M. You can probably assume that will definitely drop below this year $57.7M. Because as the article pointed out last yrs season tickets where sold before the economy took a dive. So, when seasons ticket drop this year, so will profits and so will the salary cap next year.
With $42.25M in salary already commited to 10 players under contract next year as of now. And, Sergio up for a contract extention, plus another high 1st rounder, our starting point next yr for only 11players is $47M. If the cap stays the same(unlikely), we’ll have less than $10M with 3 more players to sign. If the cap drops as predicted to $53M, then we’ll actually have less cap space then we do now.

Yet another reason to think shopping for a Free Agent in 2010 is a big deal
It’s not.

As the Cap goes down so does the level of max contracts
and the more teams are going to be forced into the range of the Luxury Tax. So, as with any recession, cash becomes more valuable in terms of spending power.
So, although $6M might not buy you a Boozer or Chandler. $6M & Beno might.

Bleh
I doubt it. But, I think the Kings could actually dump Beno & Noc to a non-tax paying team in these circumstances. (Cap dumps work for me. But, for the rest, who knows?)

If you were anything but on the fence
You should be ashamed. There was no right answer to the Beno question.
