0-3!!! Don't Panic
Although we aren't getting the wins that we should, it's no reason to panic. First off these are just summer league games, a chance for rookies to get a feel for the game, and for others to improve on areas of their game that they need work on. And i think that so far we are doing just that. We have a Lebron James like point guard in Tyreke Evans, a rebounding machine in Brockman, and younger rough version of Nocioni in Casspi. Unlike alot of people on this site, I think that Donte Greene is doing o.k. We've all seen him light it up in last years summer league so scoring isn't an issue, he looks like he's working harder on defense and trying to rebound as well. Thompson seems to be the only one out of sink, but as he proved last year he can play and be productive in the nba. Now for the reason that we're losing. It has to be the horrible free throw shooting. We've lost two games now in the last seconds. This is were having Kevin Martin, Spencer Hawes and others come in handy. Preason should give us a better outlook on this upcoming season, so until then just enjoy the show.
Also, during the game Garvin Maloof said that Evans was going to be the starting point guard next year from day one.

Not expecting a buncha wins but....
I am most definitely looking forward to watch Evans play alongside some better players.. but then again the competition will be proportionally better. His ability to get to the line should translate well into the NBA, and hopefully it will end up helping out teammates like K-Mart, who could end up shooting free throws midway through quarters with the opponent in the penalty and all.
Now all we need is D-Wade and I think 95% of our points could come from free throws.
I’m really upset with JT’s production. I don’t know if its rust, or his new muscles but he’s stinking it up this summer. I hope he turns it around.
Over all i’m not panicking about our future, i’m actually quite optimistic because I know, and every Kings fan knows that Evans is something VERY special (maybe even LeBron stature) be he a PG or not.
No one cares about the Ws/Ls but so far only one player of note has met expectations, and deserves a strong review. From that standpoint, the summer league has been a disappointment:
Tyreke Evans: Grade A
Spencer Hawes: Grade INC
Jason Thompson Grade D
Donte Greene Grade F
Brockman Grade C
Omri Casppi Grade D
The biggest question going into summer league was how good is Tyreke Evans, can he run the PG position, is he a future star, is he ready now, etc. The early answers to those questions are overwhelmingly positive, so from this point of view the summer league has been a success.
It’s just a little disconcerting when you have three 1st round picks on your summer league squad (Donte, JT, Omri), and if you didn’t know better, you’d think they were free agent wannabes. Obviously they are better than they’ve shown, but I’d like to see their skills a little more prominently displayed.
I'd actually give Donte a higher rating than JT to be honest.
JT has been playing F basketball. Donte has had flashes. Brockman deserves at least a B. He’s working hard.
Father of the "Natt this!" movement and Grandmaster of the "Never let AnotherStupidSN forget what a Sham-Wow is" Order.
One of the biggest disconcerning things is
JT’s inability to stay out of foul trouble. Given players don’t foul out until 10 in the summer league, but the numbers are shocking. 5 against the pistons, 9 against the bucks, 9 against the Warriors. How’s this guy going to develop if he can’t stay on the floor? This was one of his biggest problems last year that is in desperate need of a fix.
And that's wassup.

Don't pay too much attention to foul calls in summer league
If you actually watch the game, these refs suck and beyond sucking, call every little thing. If you touch the other player, its a foul. Goaltending? Doesn’t exist.
Father of the "Natt this!" movement and Grandmaster of the "Never let AnotherStupidSN forget what a Sham-Wow is" Order.
Not to mention...
the games are definitely more helter-skelter than what we’ll see in the pre-season and regular season, which does not help. Also, while I would like to see JT work on his foul trouble, it may not even be on his radar with 10 fouls to work with. Let’s hope we see better when pre-season rolls around.
A little harsh
I can live with JT’s score, but remember in VSL Brockman, Battle, Greene & Evans have been monsters on the glass. The Kings as a team have 125 rebounds in 3 games. So, JT is seeing a lot of competition for rebounds from his own team. That’s something that didn’t happen last season.
Donte deserves better than an F. He’s averaging 8 & 7 in the three games. And, although his shooting percentage is low (especially from 3 pt range), it’s how he’s getting the points. He’s driving a lot to the basket, He’s only taken six 3pt shots out of his 28 attemps. But, it’s not the offense that should upgrade his rating, it’s his defense. Much, much improved since last year, and the way he defended Randolf at the end of the GSW game, was some of best man defense I’ve seen from a Kings player since Artest was here. On the negative side, when the defense stops his penetration, he needs to kick out and not throw up some wild shot.
Omri has done a lot of things well, shooting, ballhandling, driving and dishing out, and he looks good being posterized. Maybe he should get a D, but since he wasn’t allowed to play in a month & he’s new to the NBA, I’m willing to be a litlle lenient. It’s not his skill or toughness that’s hurting him, but conditioning and experience. I truly feel he’s a player in the mold of Hedo. Wouldn’t that be great.

Ha who'd panic over Summer League?
I’m just disappointed in the play of Donte and JT. Not playing like guys who’ve been in the league a year. Casspi’s been on and off, which is to be expected. Evans and Brockman have played great. For the undrafted guys, Landry’s been nice, and so has Mcneal.

Playoffs? R u serious?
Name the last team to go from worse team in the league to the playoffs the following year.
Of the top of my head, I was thinking it was the 1996 San Antonio Spurs. That was the year that David Robinson was hurt for the year and the Spurs were able to draft Tim Duncan. But the Spurs were the THIRD worse team in the league that year.
So if you have dreams of playoffs next year, you better drink some coffee and wake the hell up.
2nd worse to playoffs....
83-84 Chicago Bulls were the second worse team in the league that year and they made the playoffs in the following year
And yes, that playoff season was Michael Jordan’s rookie season….So if the Kings make the playoffs next year, Evans will be able to say that he did something that Michael Jordan wasn’t able to do

the bulls made the playoffs with a record below .500
Two things Fredman
1. Last time a team had the worst record the previous year and went playoffs the next was last year. Miami Heat were worst team, last year they were in the playoffs.

seems about right
Thompson and Greene have had 2 bad coaches in one bad season on the worst team in the league last year. Gonna take some time to reboot. I still consider them rookies.
For the same reason, I am pissed at Spencer at not playing and think he is an idiot. He has been in the league longer though.
Evans is ROY if he can improve our win total by 10-15.
Casspi probably hasn’t been getting any sleep without the soothing sound of rockets and IED’s exploding outside. New country, new people, lots of pressure as the first Israeli.
Give them all until December to really start the panicking if they aren’t better by then.

Evans ROY???
Did you catch the Clippers summer league game? Going to be tough to get that award from Mr. Griffin.
Agree with you about Thompson and Greene. They have a new coach with a new system to learn. Additionally, they have to deal with a new PG that is capable of getting points on his own instead of passing it to Greene for a airball 3-pointer or having Thompson clank a post move.
If Thompson/Greene/Casspi can get some familiarity with Evans by the end of the summer league, hopefully that will carryover into training camp
Re: Griffin
He is currently not battling with Baron Davis, Eric Gordon and Al Thornton for touches. I would call him the early favorite for ROY, but it is far from a done deal.
SACTOWN ROYALTY - Try our thick creamy shakes!
Blake will play great
But will he carry his team? I think Evans has more responsibility playing point, and any success and progress the team makes will be more directly tied to him.
The Freak is used to heavy expectations as well. I think the ROY race will be closer than anyone thinks. Harden and Curry are right behind Evans if they really out do him statistically.

AHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!
The Kings are gonna get demoted to the D League!!!
AHHHHHHH!!!
Panic? No. Nervous? Yes.
The StR talk leading up to the summer session was that the Kings would dominate Summer League because they had three (then two) regular season starters on the squad. JT was supposed to dominate the inferior Summer League competition. Donté was supposed to be showing signs of his meteoric talent. Reke has been dominant, but it’s hard not to notice that the guy is a turnover machine.
It’s OK though. A couple more Xanax and I’ll be fine.

I'm not worried about Reke at all
The turnovers are there because he has the ball in his hands 90% of the time in the game. He’s also playing with these guys for the first time. He still is playing well.
But Donte and JT, they’re worrying me a little, especially JT. We’ll see what happens in Pre-Season.
For the record here are JT’s summer league stats last season:
11.1 PPG 7.4 RPG 1.0 APG Efficiency rating of +13.00
This year
13.7 PPG 4.3 RPG 1.0 APG Efficiency rating of +6.00
That’s a big drop off in certain areas. And even though his scoring is up, his FG% is down from 49% last year (and 74% from the FT stripe) to 41% this year (and 61% from the FT line). It should be noted he played with Spencer last year and was able to play PF, and this year he is playing Center, which is NOT his position.

3,506 turnovers in 906 games
For a career average of 3.9 per game.

I suppose the counterpoint is that in addition to 3,506 TOs
Magic had 10,141 assists, for an A/TO of 2.9. Even Bird, who was obviously not a point guard, was better than 2-to-1.
So Reke’s 0.88 A/TO still makes me a tad nervous. But nothing that Xanax can’t fix.

I guess. I am a little worried about that. Let’s just hope Tyreke Havoc the Freak Hurricane can get it together. And that Thompson and Co. can maybe CATCH THE BALL!

Griffin turned it over 5 times
And had 27 and 12. Solid, but Havoc filled the stat sheet a little better last night, with nobody else on the team playing that great.

Griffin played very well.
He’s going to be an offensive beast. Defensively? Not so much. At least not for a few years. Evans should be great on both ends of the floor.
Father of the "Natt this!" movement and Grandmaster of the "Never let AnotherStupidSN forget what a Sham-Wow is" Order.
A few of Tyreke’s TOs were of the careless variety out near half-court. He just got picked by Jennings because he didn’t realize his level of quickness and anticipation. This is the sort of thing a player can adjust too and be more protective once you know what an opponent likes to do. Overall, I am really impressed with Tyreke’s decision making, handling skills, and passing ability. I see him on a level above Mike Bibby in terms of his ability to see the court, penetrate, and create open shots for teammates. And Bibby was a pretty crafty player in his day.
Whoa...whoa...
Saying that Evans has better court vision than Bibby is a little premature.

Wasn't really about the bibby comparison
I was trying to make the point that saying “he has the potential to be better than player X” is better than saying “he will be better than player X”
The future begins now...
I see what you're saying.
I’ll say Tyreke will be better in 2 seasons in the noted areas; decision making, handling skills, and passing ability. I also think he’ll be better than Bibby on the defensive end by the middle of this season. However, Bibby had that reliable jumper that brought him that fat contract and league-wide respect. Until Tyreke develops a solid J and brings the Kings back to the playoffs, I’ll keep Bibby above ’Reke.
