lulz, you kings fans are retarded.

Every Bucks fan on Realgm is laughing at you,, “when will the first arrest happen” “Spoiled piece of Sh*t” “The next next Mike Tyson”. lol, what is Young Money aka Young Buck aka The Warden aka The whole F’n Show, Brandon Jennings gonna do, bite Tyreke Evans ear off when he plays the kings again!! Thats the dumbest thing I ever heard!! Talk about overblowing things, cant wait till he is running you fools off the court, ROFL 7 Steals vs Evans, we got a 20 and 10 plus 2 steals player, and so what if he is cocky, he isnt Marbury, he is hyper competitive, and a team player, his teammates all love him, so what if he gets bad press.

by Saber on Jul 15, 2009 5:17 AM PDT up reply actions

Actually

I made the Mike Tyson comment, but I think you misinterpreted. I don’t think Jennings is going to bite anyone’s ear off, but he’s created enough self-inflicted wounds that every misstep now will be magnified. Fairly or unfairly, this is how it works.

The rest of your comments I tend to agree with – I don’t really see a big deal in any of this myself, and hope Jennings turns out to be as exciting a ballplayer as he appears right now.

Skiles and Sampson are absolutely bursting about his personality, yes hard ass skiles, said he said his cockyness is a good thing, there not gonna hold him back, he brings a lot of swagger, and they love his competitive streak. Sampson even has pulled him aside and told him that he needs he needs to be the leader of the team, they believe in there 19 year old rookie that much.

That's good

I’m rooting for him. You can never have enough dynamic young players in the league IMO.

He is winning Milwaukee fans over, he really gives a great interview, all of his local interviews have been great, the national media is being really tough on him, mostly because of there bias against players going to europe instead of college, I have to believe, Milwaukee fans are just happy to have a potential star that wants to be in Milwaukee, he even gave himself the nickname “Young Buck” a conversion, from his self givin nickname “Young Money”. Hopefully he gets that tattoo as well.

I have a rule that I adhere to

Generally speaking I will not fuck with someone who has 10" and 80lbs on me. Most people consider such a rule to be fairly wise. Apparently Brandon Jennings isn’t as smart as I am.

But he is a hell of a passer

Helluva passer

And you gotta admire the competitiveness and fearlessness. I am a little embarassed for Thompson being disrespected like that. I’m not saying he should start a fight, but don’t let yourself be punked by some high schooler. Go dunk the ball, set a hard pick on the kid. Something.

Kobe, Jordan, Stockton, Malone, Thomas, and any number of players played a little dirty and mean and had bad attitudes at times. There is no question that Jennings aspires to be a great competitor as those players were. And I personally admire it. He has a bad rep, but I guarantee he will me a great player someday.

Immature?

Isn’t this a bit immature? Since when do u establish respect and pride by getting in someones face? Maybe a strong dunk would do, but what would getting a technical accomplish? absolutely nothing.

If JT wants people not to mess with him then he should play tougher (not saying that he doesn’t all ready), but there are different ways to show people that your not scared of them.

I don’t know about you guys but i’d feel just as embarrassed towards JT getting in a 6ft 1inch guard’s face as Milwaukee fans feel about Jennings tripping a player when he’s upset.

by Slaaam on Jul 14, 2009 1:15 PM PDT up reply actions

Toughness

Is it really getting up and punching someone or standing up to someone and insulting them?? The other night, someone questioned Casspi’s toughness because he got dunked on and didn’t do anything after, he just walked away. What is he suppose to do? Get mad and try to hit whoever dunked on him. I have no problem being the only one that thinks like this but I’d much rather have someone mentally tough enough not to retaliate to childish behavior than someone who feels tough because he can throw a punch and try to intimidate people by playing rough. To me, tough on the court is getting fouled hard, getting up, not saying a damn word, hitting your FTs and shutting everyone up that way.

And to Ice_9ine, do you really think Kobe, Jordan, Stockton, and the others just tripped people after complaining about a foul call? If they did, I apologize as I wasn’t a b-ball follower back then. Without being sure I doubt that was the case. They may have been dirty and edgy but within the parameters of the game. You just don’t go out and trip people because you didn’t get a call. Who does that?? (aside from Jennings of course). Again, I got no problem being the only that is looking at this incident that way and while not trying to make a big deal out of this, I don’t mind showing my displeasure for punks like Jennings

John Stockton was without a doubt one of the dirtiest players in the history of the NBA

He would elbow anybody coming off a screen. ANYBODY. (John Stockton is definitely not racist in that respect. He’s an equal opportunity elbower.) Jordan shoved Bryon Russell down to end the 98 Finals. Oh, and he hit that J too. Great players do whatever it takes to win, and will rub it in your face afterwards.

But, what Brandon Jennings did was stupid.

I agree Jennings was wrong

And that he needs to grow up. I just don’t think he is worth turning into a villain. At least he plays hard and cares enough that he sometimes gets carried away.

Also, I don’t want Shock to hit anybody, or get in anyones face, but I would like it if he got angry and played better because of it. But he isn’t that kinda dude. He genuinely is nice. Maybe a technical would have fired the rest of the team up and they would have won, though?

by Ice_9ine on Jul 14, 2009 12:47 PM PDT via mobile up reply actions

There is still a big difference between your examples and Jennings' play.

Both Stockton and Jordan played the way they did to try to gain an advantage over their opponent. Stockton wasn’t elbowing players on screens simply because he was an awful human being, he was trying to establish both a physical and psychological edge. Jordan, in your example, was simply trying to make sure he had enough space to get off a game winning shot. On the other hand, Jennings reportedly tripped JT on purpose out of frustration over a blown call. While I think a bit too much is being made of the play, it was a childish move at best (if true – I haven’t seen the footage).

by cabz on Jul 14, 2009 1:59 PM PDT up reply actions

I've been a Jennings fan all along

but dirty play disgusts me. If this actually happened, then I’m disapointed in him. Tripping someone for retaliation has absolutely nothing to do with being competitive and doing what it takes to win – it’s simply a case of losing control. It’s more like a punkass Rajon Rondo or Isaiah Thomas move than anything true competitors like MJ or Kobe would do.

But he is very young, and perhaps just got a little frustrated.

Kobe asks and complains

And retaliates after every call against him and argues for every missed call for him. And I hate him for it. He trips and pushes and elbows, very consciously, within the confines of the game.

Malone swung those elbows every rebound. Stockton would pull on player’s jerseys. Jordan did everything he could get away with.

I don’t like whiners, but I like competitors. That is why I watch basketball. Jennings is young and still learning. He is on his way though. Shock will as well.

Also, isn’t tripping legal in Italian leagues?

by Ice_9ine on Jul 14, 2009 12:52 PM PDT via mobile reply actions

Tripping a player on purpose because of a blown call by the ref is not a sign of toughness.

It should also not be compared to your other examples, which all have to do with players trying to establish an edge over their competition.

I said before the draft

that I would be horrified if the Kings took Jennings. I wanted Rubio bad, but more than that, I wanted nothing to do with Jennings. I cannot be happier he is not on our squad as I just flat out do not like anything I’ve ever seen him do or read about him.

I agree it was nice he donated money to an Italian charity after the earthquake, but the kid is a problem and keeps getting bad press.

I do officially like Evans, especially since i agree with the recent point guard articles on this site. We definitely hogs the ball a bit in summer league and it prohibits us from seeing some of the other guys play, and I feel like it’s stopping Donte from getting into his groove, but Evans is obviously the King’s #1 priority right now and they’re allowing him to work on specific aspects of his game, which i like.

Did you read his stat line from last game? What about his 13 pts, 14 assists, and 7 steals do you not like?

Yes this dude plays tough, and runs his mouth… But he nearly had a triple-double last night and I think his tendency to get bad press is outweighed by his basketball talents.

I wouldn’t mind seeing this dude on this squad (Of course, i’d rather have Evans). Nothings stopped Rondo and all the other dirty players from having successful basketball careers, and i think if he was on our team, and tripped an opponent, we wouldn’t be so upset.

That doesn't mean anything

Players skip the draft every year in basketball and football because they are worried about slipping lower than they hoped. The only weird part about Jennings was that he showed up after he was drafted.

by Charlieb on Jul 15, 2009 4:14 AM PDT up reply actions

There's a difference between playing a little dirty and being a cheap whiner

personally, i don’t mind the dirty little tricks some guys use and get away with. They use it as an edge to win. Remember one of Webber’s jersey retirement vignettes he talks about their first playoff game when he knocked Stockton on his ass? That was a dirty play, but I loved it. His goal was to show them that the Kings weren’t gonna be bullied or pushed around. Jennings’ was being childish because he didn’t get the call he wanted

www.mancancook.net

by vfettke on Jul 14, 2009 1:06 PM PDT reply actions

Agree V

Not only that, but I think there is a difference between trying to be competitive and wanting to win at all cost to just tripping someone because I didn’t get my way. All of the examples of Stockton, and Jordan are doing something dirty to win a game. Shouldn’t be condoned but that’s the nature of the game and I can understand that.

But how did tripping JT out of nowhere helps the Bucks win a game??

by eduardo_m7 on Jul 14, 2009 1:10 PM PDT up reply actions

Another difference is conditioning

I think players become conditioned to do dirty little tricks and it’s almost second nature. Take Bruce Bown for example. He learned a bunch of dirty moves on the defensive end that have led to his longevity in the league. Without those he’s a spot up 3 point shooter, of which the NBA has plenty. But his dirty streak has kept his career alive. And honestly, I don’t mind it too much. He’s not beating anybody up, he’s just bending the rules without getting caught.

Jenning’s move was just him being a baby. If he was fighting JT for the ball, trying to get the steal, and stuck a foot out, I wouldn’t mind at all.

Brandon Jennings

Is putting himself into the Terrell Owens, Mike Tyson, Ron Artest, Stephon Marbury class of athletes. Not that anything he’s done is comparable in and of itself with those guys, but he’s done enough stupid stuff now that everything he does is magnified. He’s made himself a magnet for criticism.

I’m still of the feeling that the anti-Jennings feelings around here are a bit overboard, and I think he’ll be a damn good player in the league – but dude is putting the target on his own back.

by otis29 on Jul 14, 2009 1:31 PM PDT reply actions

Instead of Evans? Not a chance

Otherwise? Maybe so…

I’m willing to give the guy the benefit of the doubt at his age. He’s a cocky son-of-a-bitch, but there’s the chance that playing point guard for an NBA franchise will help mature him into a leader. And ultimately, talent reigns in this league. I think with his talent, I would be ok with taking a chance on his maturity level increasing over time.

My main point was, whether I feel the criticism of Jennings is overblown or not, the kid is bringing it on himself.

by otis29 on Jul 14, 2009 1:42 PM PDT up reply actions

I agree with some of that Otis

One important point though. At least on my part, I have nothing to say whatsoever about Jennings as a player; dude’s gonna be good, maybe even great. Jennings the person is a different story. And I don’t separate player from person

by eduardo_m7 on Jul 14, 2009 1:35 PM PDT up reply actions

Don't you think you should balance it out though?

He’s young and he did something stupid. That’s not really altogether shocking. Do his “crimes” warrant the level of vitriol he’s getting?

Should we assume that Brandon Jennings is a “bad guy” at the ripe old age of 19, and that there isn’t any hope for him as a person or a team leader?

I’m just not willing to go there yet.

Again, he’s making his own bed here, but I’m not sure he’s done anything deserving of the level of angst this is causing for some people.

by otis29 on Jul 14, 2009 1:58 PM PDT up reply actions

Age definitely doesn't help

I just have a very strong bias against the type of player he seem to be on the way of becoming. It’s way too early to tell, I agree, but like you said, “he’s bringing it on himself.” I also look at the other players out of this draft and I don’t see anyone standing out for the wrong reasons like Jennings is. I’m just glad we don’t have to deal with it.

C’mon man. Its Summer League. Everyone knows you gotta save it for the playoffs.

Anyway, I for one am glad that none of the Kings got all retaliatory (Evans would have killed Jennings by sneezing on him) — not worth getting suspended, fined, shamed for stupid crap like this.

by elfboy_ on Jul 14, 2009 1:54 PM PDT reply actions

all my point is

Is that Jennings didn’t do nothing that bad. I don’t condone what he did, but I think he is gonna be a good kid. He can be an idiot, and immature, but when he grows out of it, and he will under Scott Skiles, he is gonna be damn good.

Shock, on the other hand, could probably benefit from competing harder and playing a little more like Malone or Rodman. That is what we need from Shock. You get tripped, dude, play like your mad. Don’t just ignore it.

by Ice_9ine on Jul 14, 2009 2:31 PM PDT via mobile reply actions

Jennings

definitely has the talent, but there are definitely plenty of guys whose careers were ruined by never growing out of this kind of behavior. If he can’t help himself from making an illegal play that could hurt someone when he doesn’t get a call in Summer League, then it’s easy to imagine him making a really bad decision when something actually goes wrong in his life.

Since this question won’t be answered for a while, maybe we should start a pool for the date of Jennings’ first arrest…?

Bottom lime.....Jennings admits he is a dirty cheat

A deliberate trip is dangerous and could easily cause an injury to a big falling body like JT’s. The fact that he is bragging about it makes it even worse.

I’m a teacher and I deal with this sort of behaviour with 12 year olds on a daily basis….luckily most of them grow out of it by the time they hit 14 or so. I’m gonna make a not so bold assumption that Jennings skipped most of his classes and didn’t get to experience such maturation during these early years.

I called him a punk

and stand by that because so far that’s how he’s behaved himself. Let’s see, these are the facts.

First he called out a fellow rookie and said he was “all hype.” Apparently he did it for publicity, and apologized later.

He skipped, rightfully so, to be at the green room for the draft because he wasn’t sure he was gonna be picked early enough for his liking. Sounds fair, that’s his right. Then he shows up a couple picks later just to get his picture taken and get some spotlight.

Couple weeks ago, a phone call was leaked in which he calls out the Knicks org for not picking him, saying he would start in front of Luke Ridenour, and saying Ramon Sessions is not gonna get resigned.

Summer league rolls around and all we hear about is his hollering and screaming in the court, and then he trips one of our players after not getting a foul call. Again, not setting a hard pick or pushing someone to get separation for a shot, just plain trips a player because he wanted to.

Look, I understand that this shouldn’t be a big deal because I guess every NBA player does this (?) and he’s not even our player so is all part of the slow-Kings-news season, but just like you have the right to like him, I have the right to say I don’t like him because he represents (at least so far) the type of player that I hate seeing play in this league. Yes, he’s young and immature and that may change, but SO FAR, in a small number of months, he has shown to be a disrespectful person and player. Otis while disagreeing a bit, said it too, “he’s bringing this onto himself.”

I made no criticism of his game, I’ve said and will continue to say it: he’s going to be a very good player. It all comes down to Jennings putting it together and maturing on and off the court. Will that happen? Hopefully for him.

Couple more things. I posted this (the fanshot) so if some of your comments were intended towards me you can always call me out by name so that I know you are talking about me. I’n not saying you were, but just keep that in mind for future reference.

And about your question about us being perfect at 19. I was definitely not perfect, but never did I intentionally trip someone like a 12 year old because I didn’t get my way. And if you think about it, maybe the mature people here criticize for that exact same reason: they are mature and see what’s really going on.

The future begins now...

Ugh....I forgot how insane the anti-Jennings crowd gets around here

Has it even been confirmed that the trip was intentional? It seems that a lot of people watched the game and didn’t even realize that happened until Jason Jones pointed it out.

And even if we’re absolutely positive it was intentional, it’s being blown out of proportion by epic levels. He lost control of his emotions – hopefully he learns to control his frustration as he grows up.

I don’t understand why there is so much love here for Rajon Rondo, a confirmed punkass, while there is out of control vitriol directed at Jennings, who has merely shown glimpses of the potential to someday rival Rondo in the spoiled brat category. What’s the difference?

i for one am with you on the anti-Rondo side of things

some of the things he did in that Chicago series were unbelievable! How he was not suspended, for throwing a player into the scorers bench I will never know. I was really questioning the motives of the NBA after that decision.
