Lots of stuff today.
Las Vegas Sun - At age 79, Kings coach still in love with the game of basketball
A profile of Pete Carril which includes news that Coachie may hang it up for good after this season.
Kings Blog and Q&A: The regretful Donté Greene
More on Donte Greene's bad feelings about the rookie year, including his regrets over leaving Syracuse.
Halperin takes Tapiro's role for Euros - Jerusalem Post
Omri Casspi is scheduled to play for the Israeli national team in August (training) and September (Eurobasket), but the coach won't be mad if O.C. needs to stick in California to get in NBA shape. (The Kings have always been accomodating when it comes to international play.)
A few more Kings links and one general NBA link after the jump.
Kings work out Sean May; Ike Diogu waits - Sacramento Bee
Sean May feels good. Ike Diogu does not.
Kings' Thompson frustrated by 'funk' - Sacramento Bee
Jason Thompson realizes he has been notsogood in Vegas, and shows a lot of self-awareness in the process. Jason Jones reports he did better in the Portland scrimmage.
Spanos reps to weigh in on Cal Expo plan - Sacramento Bee
At least one invitee to the Cal Expo Playa's Ball will show up. The story makes it seem less like they'll be there to get involved and more like they'll be there to get ideas for San Diego's new NFL stadium. (Great.)
Vegas Summer League: Halfway Home Awards - TrueHoop
Tyreke Evans tops Kevin Arnovitz's All-Rookie team for the first week of Vegas Summer League. Donte Greene makes the "notsomuch" list.
The Official Website of Kevin Martin
Kevin Martin's holding a camp in Sacramento later this month. Details at his official site. Via Sam Amick's Twitter.
Twitter / Jason Jones: Another assistant coach is ...
"Another assistant coach is still likely to be added to Westphal's staff, too." Jason is reporting from Vegas the remainder of this week, by the way.
David Stern: NBA, players to talk new labor deal soon - ESPN
The pimps and the hos players and owners will get together to discuss their current working arrangement and (fingers crossed) their future working arrangement.

That other assistant
is probably going to be Bryan Gates.
Also, Coachie damn well deserves to retire. He’s not doing this job except for his love of basketball and out of the kindness of his heart. The guy deserves some rest though.

I don't know if this has been covered,
But why did you change it from Link ’n Links to Links ’n Links. I thought the Link ’n Links reference to Lincoln Logs was witty, and oddly appropriate as these help to build a solid base for the days hoops news.
On "Kings' Thompson frustrated by 'funk' "
I don’t like to make excuses, but I’m in a funk and just getting used to playing with new guys in a new system. I’ve got to adjust. I’ve never been in this type of funk before, but I’ve got to get out of it. I’ve got to start playing better for my team. – Jason Thompson
This quote from Amick’s article in the Bee today somehow made me feel a little bit better. I just have to remind myself that despite his crappy outings in Summer League, JT really is a legit force on the NBA glass. He is bigger and stronger than last year and has a year of experience under his belt. There is no way he’s all of a sudden going to be terrible for us.
If he was saying things like “I’m just not getting the lift I’m used to” or “The game is just going to fast,” I would be really worried. I’m just going to look at this like a batting slump.
Unless Kenny is having an undue influence
There is no way he’s all of a sudden going to be terrible for us.
Recall that Woof! was once a serviceable player for the Kings. Let’s hope the K9 contagion doesn’t spread.

I find it kind of sad
That the two players i expected to dominate summer league this season arnt. One is in a funk and the other is sitting on the bench. Jesus Greene are you really that bad? Sitting on the bench in a NBA summer league game? And i find it quiet annoying that he is bitching about how he should have stayed in school. He wasn’t bitching when he was signing his contract. I love both of these kids. And i think w/o them doing well we will have to wait another 2-3 extra years before we can talk about being decent again. I mean Donte is 6 foot 10! He should be taking it to the hole every time, the only time he should be pulling up for any type of jump shot is when Evans kicks out to him when he is driving. IDK I love both of these kids and i want them to do well. But i just feel that what i want them to do isn’t what they want to do. I’d love to see JT on the block make a move or two and get an easy shot, instead of shooting 15 foot J’s. I want to see Greene recieve the ball on the 3 point line, and drive by the SF (who is too small) or the PF (who isn’t quick enough) for the easy layup. So far, our rookies are the only one’s i’ve been impressed with.
Doe’s anybody know what time the games is tonight?

If Casspi is playing for Israel...
Then I may just get to see him in action up close and personal. Great Britain and Israel in the 4 Nations tournament here in August. Thanks to my club, I’ve got tickets to the day when Israel play Poland and GB play Turkey.
Casspi said in an interview he wasn't playing for the National team this summer.
