"I learned more during one 10-day contract from coach Triano than I did during my three years with the Kings," said Douby.

Ok Quincy

Go and keep scoring 30 in summer league.

All I'm saying is

I’m not mad at the kid. He had several coaches, different systems and so forth. Late 1st round picks don’t generally burst onto the scene right away, and you have to wonder if Bonzi doesn’t get injured if we don’t end up seeing Martin blossom on some other team that picks him up cheap.

Best of luck to Quincy as far as I’m concerned.

Agreed

The whole idea of trying to make him a point guard was idiotic from the beginning. My guess is that Quincy won’t make it, but I wish him all the luck in trying.

Now that we need a backup guard, I’m wondering how he would work out, but dam does he have to talk shit? I’m so sick of Ailene’s article. “Quincy Douby Making a Comback” REALLY" are you kidding me?

Whoa...

This fruit is the plant kingdom’s coup de gras of Beavis and Butthead fodder. I submit the following (all found in the er, sexy, description of the plant):
“member”
“in the Caucasus region”

Shoot...There was more. Damn my feeble fingers!

“with dense grey-white pubescence, most of which rubs off before maturity”
“with hard, strongly-perfumed flesh”
“with an entire margin and densely pubescent with fine white hairs” — (Eww.)

Anyone got a cigarette to bring me down? That is one hot plant description.

This all started because kingme misspelled “Quince,” thus forcing me to google “Quince”

by outrider on Jul 16, 2009 8:33 PM PDT reply actions   0 recs

I don't know

But it’s probably not a question that you want to ask anyone that was lusting for Rajon Rondo or Jordan Farmar when the Kings selected Douby with the 19th pick.

Whether or not it was fair to ask this undersized two-guard to convert to a point guard, he was asked and the experiment failed miserably. Quincy needs to own that if he is to grow.

by section214 on Jul 16, 2009 8:41 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

He's a scorer, not a point guard

So, was he set up for failure by being asked to be a pg? In my opinion, yes. That doesn’t mean he shouldn’t have made an effort to pull it off, but all the blame shouldn’t fall on him either.

If we wanted a point guard, why didn’t we draft Farmar or Rando (I don’t recollect)?

Please consider the environment before reading this signature.

by outrider on Jul 16, 2009 9:35 PM PDT up reply actions   1 recs

Because the brass felt that Douby could be converted

They figured wrong.

I’ll put this another way and leave it at that. If a team spent a 1st round pick on me and paid me a few million dollars over a couple of years, and if I was still a young man with a potential career in front of me, I would look forward, not back. But that’s me.

SACTOWN ROYALTY - Try our thick creamy shakes!

by section214 on Jul 16, 2009 9:40 PM PDT up reply actions   1 recs

I don't think

Four sentences spoken to a reporter that he knows at Summer League indicates that he’s spending much energy on hating the Kings. I’m sure he’s just trying to do as many interviews as possible, so that his good work in the VSL gets mentioned and GMs take notice.

Both sides are to blame, period.

Was…past tense. There were people that wanted him, Rondo or Marcus Williams with that pick.

From the people who brought you Reggie Musselnatt.

by My Losing Season on Jul 16, 2009 10:27 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

No

but he can’t place all the blame on the Kings, either. He got screwed with the constant coaching changes to start his career but he really didn’t do much on his own to make it better. Hell, Kevin’s done just fine within the same organization with the same number of coaches. Instead of letting the carousel effect him he did work on his own as well to keep getting better.

Well...

Martin had the luxury of some time with Adelman. I don’t think that’s inconsequential.

Rocks are free, and slingshots easily stolen.

by andy sims on Jul 16, 2009 10:53 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

Not a huge luxury

Adelman never had a great reputation for playing the youngsters. Especially in Kevin’s first two seasons where the Kings were still a playoff team. He got time in year two because of Bonzi being hurt and got to prove himself. Quincy had a few times to do that and wasn’t able to. I recall two games in a row last year where he had the ball with the game on the line and completely bricked both. If he had made those game winners his confidence would’ve skyrocketed and he probably would’ve played much better and might even still be a King

www.mancancook.net

by vfettke on Jul 17, 2009 8:32 AM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

Great point about Martin...

It seems that Martin was smart enough to tie himself to Coachie in his early years and he seemed to learn quite a bit despite the coaching changes. Is it inconceivable that Douby never had the thought, “Hey, I don’t trust the head coach, but Martin has done pretty damn well – maybe I should ask that old guy what he thinks about my game…” One of the greatest basketball minds in the history of the game and a young player claims to have learned nothing – ok…

by Mcamp49 on Jul 17, 2009 11:19 AM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

Oops

Coach Carril left the Kings before the 2006 season (when Douby was drafted) and only returned in January of this year, a month before Douby was waived.

I’m not saying that he would’ve been a success if he’d had the right coaching, but I am saying that he undeniably had the wrong coaching (Muss, Theus, Natt, no Carril).

by furious.d on Jul 17, 2009 11:41 AM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

He definitely had the wrong coaching

Coaching was half the problem. The other half was himself. If he wasn’t learning enough from the coaches, then neither were the other guys. But some players, my example being Kevin, still got better and learned. In Kevin’s case its because he went outside of Sac for some help and got it from Thorpe and IMG. Douby could’ve done this, but didn’t. Which is really too bad because they improve players a lot. How else would a Kenny Thomas clone like Udonis Haslem be so productive?

www.mancancook.net

by vfettke on Jul 17, 2009 4:17 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

I agree

Douby didn’t do enough to fix the bad situation that he inherited here. I hope for his sake that he’s matured enough to realize that it will take a serious contribution on his part to become a legit rotation player.

by furious.d on Jul 17, 2009 10:16 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

He had a few chances here

But he flat-out sucked. They did give him some crunch-time minutes this past season, hoping to see a spark that would make them want to keep him but remember those shots he missed at the end of regulation a few times, at least one was an airball on a potential game-winner?
Hats off to him if he’s suddenly not a weak, shot-hunting bricklayer anymore. He’s going to need to ball his ass off to get minutes in a backcourt with 4 proven NBA rotation players (assuming Indy doesn’t match on Jack).
To me Quincy is more Jerome James than Gerald Wallace.

by Kevin Conroy on Jul 16, 2009 8:55 PM PDT reply actions   0 recs

The problem with Quincy in sac was that Kevin Martin did everything Quincy could do and more and he did it more efficiently. On the right team, in the right situation, Quincy could be Eddie House with better defense.

Disclaimer: comments may have been made under the influence of alcohol. If the Kings start winning, this will probably change.

Quincy is great when it doesn't count

He is a solid player in practices and summer league, but during the regular season games he chokes. Toronto will soon find this out.

It's a tough league to figure out

When you’re undersized and under athletic. He’s a talented kid, and he’ll find his role. It was a bad pick on our part, but not worth sweating. Power to him as long as he doesn’t Jerome James us.

Quincy could probably become a decent backup two guard.

Its up to him though, and he never showed the drive in Sacramento. Petrie knows talent when he sees it. Good luck to him.

I hope he succeeds. He’s talented, he just didn’t seem to have the confidence when it mattered. I was rooting for him the whole time. Maybe something has clicked for him now and he’ll keep it up.

Faith

Faith; the belief in that which you know is not true…

I had faith in Douby, and I have faith in Donte Greene. Both players will be out of the league in a year or two. We get so attached to scrubs in this town. Michael Smith or Yogi Stewart anyone?

by cbsf on Jul 16, 2009 10:43 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

I see a door, I walk thru it...

Well I guess it would nice,
If Dontee Greene could learn to play,
I know he’s strugglin’ w/ his J,
In the summer league

But I gotta think twice,
before I conclude he’s Douby 2,
But I watch all the games he’s blew
(or at least the highlights posted on the Youtube)

Oh, but I need some time off from League-o-Summer
Time to tell my heart these games don’t mean shit,
Oh, but i see that win column devoid of numbers,
Well, it takes a strong man, Donte, but I think that you’ve quit…

But I gotta have faith
I’ve got to have Faaith
I gotta have Faith, Faith Faith
I gotta have Faith, faith

Dou-by,
I know you’re rippin’ the coaching staff,
but you’re weakass makes me laugh,
Even though, I believe you got a good point

And Dou-by,
You mean every word you say,
You underperformed and got pushed away,
Sorry that the conversion to PG didn’t go your way,

Before this river becomes an ocean,
Before the Kings leave Vegas without a win,
Oh Donte,
Reconsider my foolish notion,
Well, I need to see some more effort and you takin’ it to the rim,

Yes, I gotta have faith
I’ve got to have faith

I gotta have Faith, faith, faith.

I learned more about Quincy Douby in one quote

Than in the three years that he spent with the Kings.

You stay classy Quincy, and undersized, and not talented enough for the NBA.

He got a fair shake. This team was terrible last year, but Douby was such a liability that they couldn’t even put him out there despite K-mart missing huge chunks of time and Beno Udrih at the point. If he would have been NBA ready, he would have gotten a ton of time last season, but he wasn’t and it was time to let him go. I’m sure the coaching changed didn’t help, but man, Quincy looked clueless out there at times which is inexcusable for a third year player nomatter who the coaches were. Yeah, maybe he wasn’t a point guard, but even if he were a good basketball player he would have found time on last years trainwreck.

Petrie gambled on him hoping for a K-mart like return (under the radar scorer from a small school). Sometimes you win like he did with Martin and sometimes you lose. That is the nature of the backend of the first round. Just have to hope for the best.

Well, can’t blame you. When you’re starved for news, you’d even read the back of lotto tickets if it had a Kings logo on it. (not that it has happened, but you know Maloof brothers will try anything once).

And Quincy is a scorer, an undersized scorer who’s not even really good.

by allbenji's on Jul 17, 2009 6:13 AM PDT via mobile reply actions   0 recs

He is not that great of a player.

And he probably will never even be a valuable reserve, but he did not get much help from the coaches we had during his stay in Sacramento.

by mayfieldcol on Jul 17, 2009 9:51 AM PDT reply actions   0 recs

I think I remember a similar quote from Jason Williams about how he wasn't given any structure with his role while on the Kings.

Completely different coaching staff, so it doesn’t really apply here. Just thought I’d throw it out.

by cbsf on Jul 17, 2009 12:07 PM PDT reply actions   0 recs

The problem with that

is that J-Will had a trend of bucking the system anyway. Had there been more “structure” he’d have rebelled against it.
