Sean May to sign with Kings
Its been a rumor flying around for the past week, and according to the Real GM site, the kings are about to sign Sean May. I personally don't have a problem with the signing if it goes through, but I just don't know what his role will be here on this team. He's only about 6'8 but I'm guessing that he can back-up both Hawes & Thompson being that he carries a lot of weight. But I still feel as if we aren't getting what we need, which if interior defense and rebounding. May is a fair rebounder but wont give us much defensive presence. So the question is, are the kings going to make another move for a defensive big man or is this it. I feel that we should go after either Dalembert from the 76rs or DeAndre Jordan of the Clippers. Also I know it will probably never happen, but is their any senario that could get us Ronny Turiaf. I think someone like him could be the last piece to our rebuilding mode. What do you all think.

I fail to see
how signing Sean May is any better than hanging on to Ike Diogu.
They have similar strengths and weaknesses, (inside physical presence, rebounding), and though neither guy might turn out to do much, at least Diogu seems to have more upside. He has great length, he can run the floor a lot better than May, and at least showed a glimmer of hope that he can score in the NBA.
I guess Petrie has seen enough of Ike in practice to know better than my half baked second guessing, but that’s my two cents…

I think it’s the price tag.
The fact that Diogu even hoped for the Kings to pick up a 3.9 million dollar option doesn’t speak well for his self-evaluation skills.
Considering the economy, if Diogu busts, it’s a lot more painful than if Sean May busts.

$3.9 million
Yeah, I saw that figure, but there’s no way in hell Ike is gonna get that, right DFox?
I checked and Sean May pulled in $2.6 last year. How much would Joe and Gavin really be saving?
If it turns out that Diogu can be an NBA starter (which May definitely cannot), that’s gonna be even more painful.

I make 10 bucks an hour at a Grocery Store
I would give anything to get the NBA’s minimum contract. Saving a couple million dollars might not sound like a lot when you look at how much owners spend, but if saving that much money saves a few people at Maloof Sports and Entertainment’s or Arco’s jobs, I’m all for it. That’s still a lot of money.

I think it had little to do with Ike's self-evaluation skills
and everything to do with his business evaluation skills. He and his agent probably thought they could negotiate more than the minimum from the Kings and found out they were wrong. It smells like a repeat of the Bonzi Wells situation.

Regarding
I think someone like him could be the last piece to our rebuilding mode.
We are a long way from getting the last piece to the rebuild. Next year’s draft (and probably the following year’s as well) will probably prove to be very important, as will trades and free agent acquisitions. Which is another way of saying that this rebuild is nowhere near complete.

Sean May is so fat that when he dances the.band skips…
But as soon as the announcement that he is a Sacramento King is official I hope all of the comments in this regard are finished. Until then, stay hungry my friends

It might have something to do with
his knees not letting him play more than 30 games a year or so.
But fat basketball sure are funny. Like Oliver Miller.

Whaddaya mean no Soul Food!?!?
The fine folks at Sandra Dee’s (15th and F) would beg to differ. I’ve sampled many restaurants of this cuisine, from Oakland to LA, and Sandra’s Dee’s is very good. Check ’em out!

dont like May
But he could be useful in trades.
I was thinking the Lakers may take Noce and Beno with May as a throw in for Fisher, Vujacic and Mbenga. Mbenga is 7 foot and isn’t a bad defender. Not great, but decent. Fisher only has a year left and I would rather have him as a back up than Beno. Sasha is a great shooter.
Mostly we get rid of Beno. Not bad talent in return.

Don't think the Lakers would trade Fisher.
Especially when he’s such a clutch shooter. Beno’s not an upgrade over Fisher now in my opinion. Lakers are looking to win a Championship. They might like Noc though.

yeah my guess is they would go for big Nuts
And possibly even start him @ 4 instead of Odom. Bynum, Nocioni, Artest, Kobe, and @ the point they may want to develop Farmar and Brown. There were definitely stretches last playoffs where Farmar and Brown were playing better but Jackson stuck with Fish, I guess to be safe. He is a liability against quicker guards though, which for him is everyone.
For the Kings, though, Fish is a one year contract for a valuable backup who has won 4 championships and has played under Jackson and Sloan and could really help Westphal develop Evans game. Like another coach on the team.

Um...
doesn’t some dude name PAU GASOL start for them at the 4?

ah i am a fool
Noce wouldn’t start, but he would still fill Odom’s spot off the bench. I don’t know how I forgot about Pau.
Stupid stupid stupid! slaps self in face
From the Lakers angle, Noce is a vet with a declining contract and is a versatile player for 2 positions off the bench. A downgrade from Odom, for sure, but still decent. Beno might thrive in LA, who knows. Maybe Phil can get the best out of him. Sic Ron-ron on him.
The Kings would get rid of a couple longer contracts and still keep a veteran presence around, in this case a more valuable one in Fish.

If Sean May was worth anything in a trade
then other teams would be bidding for him right now. He’s just a bargain big man to (hopefully) play some useful minutes off the bench.

Sean May is a good fit
He could be kind of like Darius Songaila was 4 or 5 years ago, a cheap forward who can bang bodies a little bit, hit some open shots and muscle up a few points in the paint here and there.
There was no way Geoff Petrie was going to find a shotblocking/rebounding specialist with the budget and the talent that is available this summer.
Sean May can be an efficient scorer, he won’t make mistakes and if his body holds up he’s going to be playing hard and taking on whatever role they have for him so he can earn a multiyear contract. I think he’ll be better than Mikki Moore and at like 1/9th of the cost.

Low risk, high reward
Thats the way I see it.
Lets not forget Larry Brown made Sean May drops some weight last season and he still didnt get much of a chance to show case what he has.
He is going to cost alot less compared to Ike Diogu, or what it would have costed to sign Gortat.
If Sean May pans out it greatly helps out our rebuilding process, if he fails then hes just another body to consume mins while our bigs rest.
Oh, and also he gives us somone to “poke” fun at ;)
