Is a Kevin Martin trade the best for Kings?
Hey guys, ive noticed Evans will be a great player in the NBA and has the potentials to be R.O.Y, a Superstar and an All-Star! We dont know if Evans-Martin duo would work out for us, so just incase, is Martin worth trading? If anything, i would trade him for a proven PG. Dont get me wrong, Martin is fun to watch and made us kings fans a reason to watch kings basketball no matter what. but if we want to be playing during playoffs, Martin is the best player with good value. Any trade ideas?
Martin for CP3??
Martin for Rubio? that would be fun to watch! Rubio-Evans..
Martin for Nash?..
Martin for Rondo???

Hey, 408
You might have noticed the merciless crap you’re getting regarding your fanpost.
Fanposts like this, with no analysis, bad grammar, and a premise that has been done to death, are irritating. It’s why we hate it when someone joins StR and then fanposts on the same day.
Read the site for a while, post in existing threads a few times, get to know the people and the style, and what’s been discussed already before you fanpost. This isn’t SacBee’s comment section. People here are not casual fans.
Why on earth would the NO trade Paul? Or Phoenix trade Nash? I can kind of see the Rubio trade, because Minnesota probably won’t be able to keep him, but the salaries are a complete mismatch and a straight-up trade doesn’t work.
Consider this your constructive criticism of the day. And don’t do anymore fanposts until you understand the system, ok?
The draft lottery has reinforced my belief that there are not enough bad words in the English language.

I like the Peaches argument here—er, not to say that you are Peach-like but…you get my drift. All you need to add are some one liners, and somehow cut off all of 408’s rebuttals…And also get a co-host who likes to use a lot of big words in everyday language. Yeah!

Rules for Noobies (unofficial)
Rule #1: Do not post on your first day on StR unless you have something really intelligent and timely to offer.
Rule #2: Put some time and thought into whether your idea/question actually warrants a post, or whether it would be better handled in the comment stream of someone else’s post, or just dropped altogether (often an excellent choice).
Rule #3: Check your post for spelling, grammar, punctuation, capitalization, and syntax errors BEFORE you post it. A sloppy post is an invitation for serial abuse.
Rule #4: Do not be argumentative.
Rule #5: If you want to propose a trade or free agent acquisition, at least take salary issues into consideration. If you don’t understand why that’s important, don’t propose a trade or free agent acquisition.
Rule #6: DO NOT insult the intelligence of the StR members.
Rule #7: Maintain humility. Arrogance is earned.
Hope that helps.

Point of clarification
These are actually more guidelines than rules. In fact, I generally try to adhere to them myself. Because to do otherwise is an invitation for mass derision.

Arguing is one thing; being argumentative is another
In the first case you take a position and defend it. In the second, you’re looking to pick a fight.
But anyway, these are newbie guidelines. Veterans can argue and be argumentative all they want. It’s all part of the site interactions. My point is that new participants shouldn’t be swearing at people and picking fights right from the outset. We’ve seen it happen and it’s usually ugly and always ill-advised. When I joined, I just listened (i.e., read) and eventually I chimed in, but I was never looking to start a fight or argue with StR veterans—-and I’m still not. That seems like a very good philosophy for newbies.

My point is that your guidelines work to an extent
But there’s a level that they fail on as well. What you suggest, quite honestly, is a slippery slope. I don’t want to enter the good/bad side of that, but that’s the honest truth. Having a strict set of guidelines is not StR. That’s what has made this community this community.

Big difference.
A set of rules, or code, is a strict, do-or-die kind of thing. Like…

What we have here is guidelines. Follow them or be thought of as stupid. Or rude.

This newbie versus veteran sentiment
really gets to me. It makes this us versus them thing that I dont want any part of. Sure we get some posts that come from casual fans and first-timers, but I would just let those be. They are real fans too. This is their site just as much as it is yours. I understand that you are partly trying to help improve the situation, but I think it will be far more helpful if is doesn’t come with so much condescention.
I appreciate the high level of conversation that happens here, but it is best when it’s tolerant of new-and sometimes bad-posts. I understand it’s tongue-in-cheek, but I disagree with Rule 7; arrogance isnt ever earned.
by DustyG on Jul 29, 2009 11:22 AM PDT up reply actions 0 recs
I'm a relative newbie here too
There’s no way I can claim veteran status; I’ve only been a member since May. But it really bugs me when people toss up these sloppy, uninformative, and vacuous posts a few hours after joining the site. It kind of degrades the blog (temporarily), and it’s otherwise totally unnecessary and extremely presumptuous. Like the guy the other day asking about getting a Kings tattoo. Puh…f***ing…lease!
I am learning, however, that the really irritating newbies tend to be very short-lived, while the smarter ones seem to understand the “Newbie Rules” without even reading them. So maybe I’ll just scratch the whole educate-the-newbie thing. To some extent it was never more than an attempt at humor on my part (e.g., Rule #7). And anyway, some of the barrages that get unleashed against these hyper-lame newbie posts are downright riotous.

I don't want to trade K$
But what if…and this is a HUGE if, Rubio sits out and the T-Wolves lose his draft rights and he falls right into our laps again. And we take him, So what do we do with Evans? K$ isn’t big enough to play SF he can barely play SG….I was just thinking about that what if David Stern said that it’s time for the Kings to have SOME type of luck, and this all happened. What would we do with K$? Would we package him with Cisco and Noc to hopefully get A big time SF such as, Melo (he has burned a lot of bridges in Denver, but he also played very well) Who do you think we can get?
by shadowchicken on Jul 27, 2009 4:16 AM PDT reply actions 0 recs
I think
A lot more would be known between now and then (and I would eat my hat if Rubio sits out the season – you think his draft position dropped this season, just wait until he sits out a year).
Namely, we will all get to see if Martin and Evans can mesh as a backcourt. Talking of trading Martin is putting the cart way before the horse.
