Why Trade Our Best Player?
There have been a lot of post in the last week or two about trading Martin, this and that, and im not trying to act hypocritical because ive done it too, but i think that martin is a solid number two star, it just so happens that we have drafted a future number one star(lets hope) so why would we want to get out of the situation were in? Think about it, Tyreke was a steal, but would Petrie have drafted Evans if he didnt think he'd go great with martin?
How does it make sense to trade for anyone else when we have the perfect back court mate for Evans in K$ because we have a natural drive-the-lane guy, i mean he could get to the hole with his eyes closed. And then we have Kevin martin, a pure shooter who can hit all kinds of shots.
This is gonna be the year for Kevin Martin to elevate his status because of Tyreke Evans and because of all the match up issues. The same reason Tyreke Evans will win the ROY(yep you heard it from me) because of playing with Kevin Martin. So cut out all of the irrational trade talks and realize we have a great back court pair already. And an exciting season to watch. Lets get on with the comments :)

Maybe we should stop talking about this
Pro or con. There are no offers for Martin that we are aware of. The over-punctuated sense of urgency has gotten boring.
And seriously, no one ever solved anything with a run-on sentence.
Rocks are free, and slingshots easily stolen.
Actually
Once I was in a meeting waiting for someone to bring me photocopies of some e-mails because someone said that I said something that I totally didin’t say and while I was waiting for the copies I started explaining about this campus security system that is totally free and prints a visitor or volunteer badges with people’s pictures on them and actually checks visitors against the national sex offender registry, but when I’m stressed, which I was at the time, I tend to ramble and used a run-on sentence, or maybe even two, and by the time I was done explaining about the system, which, by the way, everybody loved, my photocopies were there and I could prove that the person who accused me was wrong.
Problem solved.

What are you talking about?
“Problem solved” isn’t a run-on sentence.

Sorry about
The run-ons man. I kind of have a 9th grade level education so lets just say formality in sentences isnt a strength i have. But i would like to inform you that i wasn’t talking about trading martin, i was talking about keeping him. Also i was not writing with any sense of urgency at all and if i was i would like you to explain whats urgent about keeping a player with 5 years on his contract “OMG we cant let this guy go he only has 5 years left!!!!”. And about the run-ons again, im in tenth grade, cut me some slack LOL.

Even in tenth grade
You’re allowed to capitalize “I”. It’s not something you earn with age.

It still doesn't mean you get a free pass
because you’re entering the tenth grade. I’m entering the tenth grade as well, but I try to write as properly as I can, and so should you.

I would
have an easier time taking that seriously if your name wasn’t “submison.” Sounds like a gay MMA fighter.

But on the other hand
His writing in that post was much improved.

Uhm
I was trying to be respectful, and making fun of something as trivial as a screen name is stupid. You’ve lost my respect, but you still have the respect of everyone else, right? Wait..

If i offended you with my previous statement. I was not in a great mood and I took what you said the wrong way I should have thanked you and I was out of line. But now I appreciate what you said earlier; and about the respect I am sorry i have lost yours. So Again I apologize for what was rude, not just to you but to everyone, i was out of line. If you read this far, thank you. I appreciate your time.

Yes GP might have drafted Evans no matter how he felt about Martin, because Evans was the best player available with the pick. That’s what GP does.
Now, if you would like me to tell you how I feel about the Martin / Evans duo in the back court. Ask me next summer. Because the last time we had a guy who could dribble drive past his man and score at the rim (John Salmons), alot of people didn’t like hime and thought that he wasn’t a good match for Martin. Funny how that goes sometime.

Thats a good point.
I forgot all about salmons, but i still think that GP intended for K$ and Tyreke to play together knowing that they have a great potential to succeed. And on account of the fact that neither of us is a GM, i think we should give GP the botd when it comes to our back court plans and hope that it will work out.
And Salmons is still more of a role player/second or third star in my opinion while tyreke is a number one type.

Here's why
Kevin can shoot well, but he’s a facilitator. He isn’t cocky, arrogant, or a leader on a team that needs some damn leadership. Yet everyone on this site has always held a “Prince Kevin” title over his head, that he’s the second coming of Jaysus. He’s not, he’s soft, and he just doesn’t have the leadership qualities that everyone seems to expect of him.
Kevin Martin is going to thrive on a team where there’s a strong leader, not where he is expected to be. That’s why trading him for a floor commander would be best for this team. I’m not exactly sure who, but pack him up with some of these useless contracts and grab a strong floor voice so the Kings have some fire.
Conflicting Logic
Kevin Martin is going to thrive on a team where there’s a strong leader, not where he is expected to be. That’s why trading him for a floor commander would be best for this team.
If this is true, then wouldn’t the best thing for this team be to get a “strong leader” to play alongside him so he could “thrive”?
I’m not against trading ANYONE on this roster, but your comments conflict with each other.
I agree
But the only way I think we’re going to get a strong leader is to trade him. He’s a valuable asset.
That's fair
The only other hope would be to get someone who can lead without being one of the main production cogs.
I don’t know if you could quite put Vlade into that category (don’t want to undervalue his ability), but along a similar line as that.
How dare you challenge my view of Prince Kevin?
He’s royalty asshole!

I think there is a really simple answer
to the question “Why trade our best player?”. And it is “To make the team better.” Now this is general and doesnt have anything to do with Martin necessarily, but stop asking the question as if it has no good answer.
Of course, what or who makes the team better is a big question in itself. But that’s a different question.
dont trade Kev!
Evans is not the next Salmons. And Salmons was never our starter @ point guard. John generally was guarded by players @ the 2 or 3 positions. Evans will deal with a lot smaller players. That will create match-up problems. He is quicker and sees the floor a lot better than Salmons. He has carried his teams before and is 10 years younger that John.
Everyone should stop worrying about our backcourt. We are fine there for a long time.
Imagine if Dwayne Wade played with Reggie Miller? That is our backcourt.
What we really need to focus on is the overall mentality of our team, especially the big men. They have been screwed over by bad coaching. Hopefully Westphal can start his comeback pretty strong.

I get that Wade/Miller is BEYOND the best-case scenario
…but I still think that’s an interesting viewpoint.
Perhaps it wouldn’t have seemed as bad had he said Arenas/Redd, or a lower tier of players with similar skills?
Sometimes, I think that people get jumped on for referencing great players when the truth is that those are the players that everybody knows, so they usually make good reference points.
Don’t get too caught up in thinking that every time someone is compared to a HOFer (or future HOFer) that they’re necessarily stating the younger player will be “as good or better” than the HOFer they are being compared to.
It’s like the JT backlash when people compared aspects of him with Malone/Webber. I don’t think most people were saying he’d be the next Malone/Webber, but there were exciting similarities that they saw and shared them.
In any case, if Evans/Martin mesh well then this could really turn out to be something special.
