Who would you recommend?
I'm a transplanted Kings fan in Denver, and it's been a little difficult to catch every Kings game out here. Currently the Nugz are looking for one more 4/5 to rebound and backup Nene/Kmart/Birdman, and the names that keep floating around are Ike Diogu, Sheldon Williams, Drew Gooden, and maybe Big Baby Davis. trying to be cheap, who would you recommend? I thought Diogu at first, but apparently peeps say he doesn't play defense. You guys have seen 3/4 of these guys play, any insight?

Gooden
Probably too expensive for you though
Ike isn’t gunna play hard unless he has the opportunity to play more than he has the past few years
Sheldon?
some of the bloggers out here want to take the chance on Sheldon, since he’d be cheap. but he didn’t show much in Sacto, is he worth the risk?
He will Rebound
But that’s about it. He won’t score much, can’t shoot and isn’t a very good defender. The slowest of all the 4 candidates.
I would choose:
1. Gooden
2. Davis
3. Diogu
4. Williams
If money were the main sticking factor, then I would choose Diogu if you can get him for under 2 million. Gooden and Davis will both want over 3 million each I would think.

Breakdown
I’m in Colorado Springs, so I share your pain.
I’ve watched the Nuggs quite a bit the last several years, and this answer depends entirely on salary. The Nuggets rely on Kenyon Martin, Nene, and Birdman. They are the 3 key bigs. So whoever else is brought it can expect some minutes, but not a ton. Ike Diogu demonstrated an ability to come in and produce on demand. That would be a big asset, but I think he’ll want more money than Denver should give him.
Gooden is the best player you’ve listed, but I think he’d also ask too much. I also think he’d be a bad fit for the Nuggets offense.
Shelden Williams would be the cheapest, but he hasn’t demonstrated the ability to be much of a major contributor. If Denver wants a short-term, cheap stopgap, he could be a good fit.
Personally, I think Davis could be the best fit. I haven’t heard what he’s asking for a contract, but I think that he demonstrated an ability to produce in Boston. His production would be good, and his price should be more reasonable than Gooden’s.
Overall I think that Davis would be the best option for Denver, as he’d be the best balance between ability to contribute and lower price tag.

I think Davis is asking for the full MLE
That might be more than they’re willing to offer. Maybe Theo Ratliff if he hasn’t already been picked up? I’d like to see him on the Kings, but I think he’d only play for a contender becausethis will probably be his last season. Could be nice on the Nuggets though.

Ratliff's gone
He’s signing with the Spurs. David Aldridge is saying that the Kings are one of the few teams looking into Fabricio Oberto.
Damn the Spurs will have sick front court next year
Jefferson, Duncan, McDyess, Ratliff, and Blair. Wow.

Fabricio Oberto to the Kings?
that would be perfect. I don’t think he’s going to demand too much money and he’d be a good backup to Spencer. We need a center guys…
He signed with the Wizards for BAE

I'd expect Gooden to want at least the MLA as well
And, just my personal opinion, I like Davis better as a player and I think he’d be a better fit for Denver.

Ike would do good in Denver
He wants to score, Karl might let him loose off the bench. He would do really well playing alongside Birdman and running the court.
Of course, I would prefer you take the domed cranium of Mr. Candace Parker. Sign him to a long term deal for millions of dollars. Watch him fumble the ball away and look lost on offense for a few years.

injuries too
between KMart (DEN) and Nene you know there will be missed games due to injury, so, whoever the Nugz pickup will most likely get some serious playing time at some point during the season.
And they have Steven Hunter still on the roster, he should be healthy by now. should be.
Ike's probably the most realistic possibility for Denver
but Gooden would be the best player.

definitely gooden.
the four and five positions = 96 minutes combined.
kmart and nene= approx 30 minutes each per game
birdman= around 20
so that leaves about 10-15 minutes for the 2 positions, and youd better believe coach karl wont give that to renaldo balkman or hunter XD. gooden has proven that hes a solid backup for both positions, a capable post presence with decent rebounding skill and a solid jumpshot. recent stints this season with the kings, spurs, bulls can testify to that.
baby davis isnt too good off the bench and shelden williams is an absolute dud. and ike seems much more comfortable being a starter, so hes out imo.
My list would be:
Davis: Surprising player for me.. you’d think he is a post bruiser, which he is, but he also has a pretty good jumper now. He’s also a pretty good offensive rebounder, and my favorite player out of this selection.
Gooden: good player who struggled as a role player off the bench in San Antonio. However, he still has the talent to put up double doubles when given the chance as he is a competent scorer and a good defensive rebounder.
Diogu: Showed up for the last three games of the season (once against the Nuggets), and he proved he could score and rebound. The question for me is whether he can keep that up during fluctuating minutes or not. I’m not sure if I’d wanna take a chance on that.
Williams: Williams has no offensive repertoire outside of putbacks. That said he is a big body who can play some defense and give up some fouls.
Out of these guys, I’d go for Davis; he produced well starting for the Celtics in the playoffs and I think he’d be able to do that in Denver.

gotta wonder about Gooden though ...
why, exactly, has someone with his size and apparent ability been bouncing from team to team lately? and not just any teams, teams trying to put themselves in contention … there may be something (don’t know what) that explains why – other than that beard …
He thinks he's better than he is
and tries to play the role of a star player when he really isn’t. While slightly irksome to his teammates, he’s not a character problem, it’s just he tries to do too much of the big things in a game when he should focus more on doing the little things. He plays like a centerpiece player but has a complementary game. Too late now for him to redefine himself as a player.
That said, he is a good player. However, finding the right situation for him to best take advantage of his talents is not so easy. I thought Cleaveland was a good spot for him, because they needed somebody to step up and take that role when they didn’t really have talent on the roster to accomplish that.
Victory is tasty.
Put him on the front line with Sean May

I was just going to rec this and move on
But, upon closer inspection, I think this is a brilliant nickname for May on its own.
Plenty.
That’s great no matter what, and it becomes twice as nice if he actually performs.

hes been bounced around this season for legitimate reasons. he was traded from the bulls because of the nucleus that vinny del negro had didnt have very good chemistry, and the team desired a playoff push. he was dropped by the kings for financial reasons (buyout), and the spurs dont want him back for another season because they have a huge stack of bigs: mcdyess, ratliff, duncan, blair
i think he would be a good fit for a role player for the nuggets because the team doesnt really need much, as it has a good mix of defensive specialists(birdman, jones,), shooters(smith, kleiza), playmakers(carter, billups) and a low-high post presence (nene, kmart). gooden would bring a little bit of everything from the table, some solid scoring and rebounding and defense.
