Around SBN: Jeremy Lin's Game-Winner Was Incredible, Worth Remembering

Nickname Thread Part 2: Run-off Thread for Tyreke Evans

The results are in and we have winners for Omri Casspi and Jon Brockman. But for Tyreke, we've got ourselves a tie.  Also, apparently Tyreke likes Havoc, according to Sacramento Kings twitter, but who cares what he thinks right? We know whats best for him. So in one corner, we have "Tyger" submitted by me and also LPKingsFan, who had wrote it on another site a few days before the nickname thread.  In the other corner we have "The Freak" submitted by RapnRodney.  Vote in the poll and official winners will be announced tomorrow!

P.S. Do not rec this thread, I don't know why you would and it would just knock down other people's deserving work.Thank you.

sorry I missed the first vote, but if you look at the post by Ziller on June 27 “Presedence for Tyreke at Poiny Gaurd” I believe I was the first to nickname Tyreke as FON which stands for Freak of Nature. So I’m going with Freak. If he is gonna be as good as Calipari and others say, I think we are in for a real treat.

Sorry, can't get on board

Good nicknames are born of circumstance, not planned and voted for by a committee. Something will happen early in the season, a nickname will emerge, and we’ll all just… know.

Yeah

That’s the reputation. Now you head to that video bar across the street (forgot the name of it), then that IS a gay bar. Faces got to many straight folk in there now to be a gay bar. It’s more gay friendly at this point.

Buzzkill...

Not to be a “kill joy,” but, Players should have to earn their nicknames…

Nicknames should be reflective of a players “success.” Giving guys nicknames before they even play their first game is a bit premature.

by Hoops916 on Jul 3, 2009 8:34 AM PDT reply actions

What were the nicknames for Omri and Jon?

Perception is strong and sight weak. In strategy it is important to see distant things as if they were close and to take a distanced view of close things.

Why

do nicknames HAVE to be earned? I understand some being driven by a certain talent or game, but aren’t most just meaningless names that just kinda sound cool? King James doesn’t slam a chalk-filled Bible before every game. The Black Mamba didn’t kill a venomous snake in the Lakers’ locker room, saving a girlish-screaming Pau Gasol. The Big Ticket doesn’t leave one oversized ducket at the will-call booth every night. At least we’re not using another ‘first initial of the first name and first sylabble of the last name’ ala C-Webb or J-Will.

Oh, and The Freak is the name to go with.

Hurricane Tyke

His brothers already call him Hugo due to the fact he was born during Hurricane Hugo.

I just like the idea of connecting him with something powerful

Then

we apparently should nickname him Andy Sims

by PurplePurple on Jul 3, 2009 1:13 PM PDT reply actions

I agree that nicknames should be born out of circumstance.

Even Shock came out of circumstance, albeit off the court.

I’ll be waiting and hoping for the day when Tyreke either blows by, dunks on, or shuts down the Black Mamba…solely for the fact that from that day forward, he shall be known as “The Mongoose.”
