The Kings should be somewhere between $9 million and $10 million under the cap. But given their financial woes of late, they might not be as willing to spend it as would some other teams.

That's all he has to say on the Kings

And I don’t post full articles from subscription services, sorry.

Stupid...

ESPN insider is a waste of money. Do we need to pay and subscribe to learn that the Kings will be 9-10 million under the cap? I bet most of the “insider” info is available on the “outside” if you have enough of a brain to google it. All the rumors as most out there.

on top of that

I agree with Kingsforum that the Kings dotn really have that much and may need to save for next year.

I'm not defending the way they handle Insider

I’m just saying that I’ll respect their right to handle their information as they see fit. And yes, you are able to get this same information without paying for it, because I pay for it and passed along the info that relates to the Kings.

His numbers

It would be nice if he posted how he GOT those numbers. From what I’ve seen from Zach at Cowbell Kingdom and my own work, we’re not at 9 or 10 million bucks…

Then again, we could be wrong. But we’re still sexy.

The issue with the projections

is that the league expects the cap to decline again for 2010, by 5% to 10%. So teams are seeing a pretty big decrease in what they can expect to have in cap room. Ford explains his numbers a little more in the article, but I didn’t compare them to how Zach got his numbers.

If the Maloofs dont spend that money

They might as well close up shop in this town. They have been angling toward 2010 and saying they are saving their pennies for that free agency free for all. If the Kings don’t use the money they have, a good portion of it, to bring in a quality player or players, then all the cost saving trades and throwing away of good talent for cap space was all a lie. If it is all a lie, then what have we been watching bad basketball for the last 3 or 4 year for? They have to attract a real piece to the puzzle, whatever that looks like after this season, or all their recent moves were only to save them money, not to better the team in the future. THAT would be the ultimate sin in my book.

Another year, another chance to hope for the team !!

Spending Money

I don’t know if the Kings will spend the money in free agency next year. I just don’t think any big time free agents will want to come to Sacramento when there are so many other teams who will have cap space.I rather they would save their money then overpay a role player. It seems more likely we will use our cap space to trade for someone.

Quality over quantity

I want to see them go out and sign a player too, but not for the sake of signing a player. Yes, a lot of the better players will sign with bigger cities, but the kings should not give in and sign a player to more than they are worth, period. If the Kings come out without signing anyone, and there were a number of unreasonable siginings that summer, I would be OK with it. The team should not through money at a player willing to come to Sacramento if he doesn’t warrant it. The kings will most likley have more than 10 mil, because I just don’t see the kings ending the season with both Noc and Udrih on the roster. If the kings don’t have more, hopefully it will be because of a new player.

Besides, some money in the future needs to be saved to sign extensions. I’m very curious to see how much Hawes gets in a couple years.

Spend it

The Maloofs need to spend it and make a run at some decent players. I don’t think they are dumb enough to believe that all of their recent money problems have stemmed from the bad economy and not because they own the worst team in the league. If you build it, they will come. Field a team that is worth watching, and fans will pay to watch.

who could we get for

9-10 million? Rudy Gay, Tyrus Thomas, Jamal Crawford, Josh Howard, Mike Redd, Stephen Jackson? Anyone else i don’t see as worth it. As you can tell most of these guys are SF, i think we should keep K$ at SG and Evans at PG. But also would any of these players want to play in Sac-Town? Gay and Thomas will resign with their original teams, and Crawford is kind of small to play SF, Stephen Jackson is a head case and J. Howard is getting kind of old. Who else can we get for 10 mill?

The other problem with Crawford

Is that the guy is just about useless to the Kings. He is a shoot-first, pass-last ball hog with a career 40% FG percentage. Crawford = Volume Shooter. Exactly what you don’t want with guys Martin, Reke and the young bigs on the court.

And yeah, he’s not a small forward.

So who could we get

with our 10 mill. I was reading on here that it could even up as high as 15 mill. But who can we get? I would love Bosh, but would he come to sac-town?

by shadowchicken on Aug 11, 2009 11:23 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

No answer

The Kings may just sit tight on their cap space so that they preserve enough cushion to pay their young guys when their paydays arrive, maybe picking up a useful expiring contract here or there (and hopefully a pick or two) along the way to plug short-term holes in the roster.

Not the answer you want, but that may be where this is headed.
