Another BIG possibility

With all the talk of a needed BIG to back up Hawes and the total lack of want for Beno with the addition of Tyreke and Sergio, I thought I would toss out another wannabe GM trade scenario.  Currently, Charlotte has 4 centers on their roster...Chandler, Diop, Mohammad, and Ajinca...clearly more than playing time will allow.  My amateur idea is to trade Beno for Diop (a serviceable shot blocking, rebounding big with little offensive skill).  They have virtually identical contracts...which really doesn't dissolve Beno's cash commitment.  Not sure if Charlotte would want Beno, but they are going to have a hard time keeping both Felton and Augustin happy, therefore Beno could be their backup if they were to let go of one of those young talents.  Again, I'm just throwing this out there for conversion during the doldrums of August.  This is my first post, by the way, so be kind :)

i like it!

i’m new too, and I like your idea~
what about that big dude from Utah? Frensko ?

by AndyGatesFreeman on Aug 5, 2009 10:37 AM PDT reply actions   0 recs

I like him too...

I just think he’s a little less proven and we don’t really have a contract to swap for him. I only see us dealing a pick to get Frensko…which only adds to the salary cap. I just like the idea of moving Beno…I’m just worried of his attitude and apathy this year if he doesn’t get the minutes, then he will truly be untradeable to other teams as a malcontent.

Fesenko not Frensko

As a new guy, my advice to you is to learn to use the search feature. Fesenko has been discussed 100’s of times. As has the reason why Utah wouldn’t trade Beno for him. And, why Utah isn’t looking to take on any more salary.

News Flash for you

We are talking about sports here pal, not curing cancer. Here’s how I approach it,……. as freaking recreation!!!! That means I don’t jump on someone who doesn’t “research” his post. Of course I don’t research what I’m going to say about basketball!!! We’re talking about grown men bouncing balls around! I don’t like being lectured how to talk about freaking sports! If I want rules I’ll go stare at a stop sign, this is a place to come and shoot the breeze and have a laugh, not get into a pissing contest about who knows what.

Pretty sure I'd lose a pissing contest.

Girls can’t aim.

Also pretty sure I’m not your pal.

We’re all here to talk about sports. But rules are what make a society function. Otherwise it’s total anarchy. To quote the inimitable Jack Sparrow, they’re more like guidelines anyway. And they’re for your own benefit so that people don’t think you’re a complete moron or simply a rude buffoon.

Not to lecture you or anything, Andy.

Not a half bad idea.

Both of these guys have crappy contracts and this would allow Charlotte to tell Ray Felton to go F-himself while opening up the position for DJ. Diop can give you a solid 15 minutes a game if need be as a rebounder and shot blocker. I think Beno could help Charlotte as well but Larry Brown would never put up with his no D B.S.

I don't know if I'd trade one albatross for another

even if its a position of need. It will likely only be a position of need for a year or two, especially with a draft next year loaded with bigs.

Diop is a good defender

I would rather have him than Beno.

But I think we all are going to have to resign ourselves to the fact that nothing is going to happen until the trade deadline.

Geoff wants to get maximum value on his returns for K9, Noce, and whoever else might be thrown in. And I think it will benefit the Kings if we can pick up some draft picks in next years loaded draft, but without sacrificing our position in the lottery.

Don’t wanna be too good too quick! Diop is a bandaid and will not help us in the long run.

I hate rebuilding.

boredom and the trade machine

Instead of Diop (3 year deal)… how about Beno and Noc for Nazr Mohammed (two year deal) and G. Wallace (3 year deal). Trade machine likes it… do we? G has a pretty fat contract but its the same length as both Beno and Noc’s, but if you are going to pay roughly the same money, shouldn’t we get some production from it? Bobcats seem more interested in reducing payroll and with Noc’s declining contract, and saving about $2M this year alone, they might go for it (witness the Chandler/Okafor deal).

by longtimelistenerfirsttimecaller on Aug 5, 2009 1:18 PM PDT reply actions   0 recs

I like it

But I don’t see Charlotte doing that. It’s too big a talent dump and it doesn’t provide them enough contract relief.

It would be great to have G-Dub back, and Nazr would be a decent defense-oriented back-up. Wallace is of course an injury risk due to his trapeze act style, and his contract is fairly huge, but he is such a dynamic presence out there: scoring, rebounding, passing, stealing, shot-blocking. Plug him in at the starting 3 and you’ve got Reke, Martin, Wallace, JT, Spence. Helluva good young line-up there.

by Gnomercy on Aug 5, 2009 11:41 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

How about not?

Where does Elton Brand fit in? The guy has a huge onerous contract (4 years, $66M), major injury problems in the past two seasons (missed 127 games), and he doesn’t address a position of need. The last thing the Kings need to be doing is adding a huge contract for an injury-prone player at a position they don’t need.

From the people who brought you Reggie Musselnatt.

by My Losing Season on Aug 6, 2009 12:39 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

????

Dude… Beno AND Andres for Elton? Two subpar talents for a player who can bounce back and be GREAT? And it’s not like the Kings will be spending significantly more anyway.

The trade would never happen, though I love the irony of it basically being the reverse of the Chris Webber trade. Chances are the Kings end up eating the last three years of the contract and are condemned to league loss hell – but if Brand ever bounces back, you basically got something for nothing, and he instantly becomes a huge trade asset. It’s a gamble, but I would not outright dismiss the notion.

That said, Sixers don’t do the deal, and if they do then that’s a big warning sign that the Kings shouldn’t do the deal.

Victory is tasty.

He looks more like someone I'd want guarding the post than a perimeter player

And with the extensible jaws comibined with the leaping ability can you imagine how many blocked shots this guy will get? I’d imagine that this guy would be pretty hard on the basket ball. Blocked shots could regularly result in a shredded ball. Is there a penalty for causing damage to the ball?
