You should change it to "in three words:" I don't know.
The article didn’t really tell us anything new, other than there’ll be a definite answer by the end of this month, which is still three weeks away.

this does not tell us anything new - as nothing has happened
but it does tell us that the expectation that Bobby Jackson will be wearing #24 again for Sacramento has dropped more than a notch.
I am surprised. Is anyone else?
Yes there is one more roster spot that is recquired to fill, yes Hoss Brockman has not been signed (and yet Paul Westphal has recently commented on him like he is on the team), there is no “true” back up 5 (positions don’t matter anymore…) but we are talking about Bobby Jackson. One of the highlights of a 2008-09 season of lowlights. A guy who brings it and fits the “new Kings” persona to a T. He is a veteran presence in a team sorely lacking that ingredient. He knows the Princeton. He lives and is a part of Sacramento, the community. He may just be a bit put off by the lack of a contract now in August by the Kings, and I won’t blame him, but I find this an unexpected development.

I believe Sean May fulfilled the minimum roster count
or am I wrong?

Depending on whether Brockman is part of the roster "officially"
You are correct Aykis.

Yes I know
But, I was making a point that depending on what Brockman counts as, May did in fact qualify the Kings for minimum roster count.

Oregon Pinot is the furthest North I could go (in your honor, of course). Bing cherry, a hint of lavender, a bit of stem, soft on the palate with a long finish.

hmmm, tough question
the guy who has been out for a year, signed with a team than retired, now wants back, letf the Kings in disgrace, with a history of drug abuse and fan prejudice, is often injured and is/was highly skilled with a directionless style
—— OR—-
the guy who played for your team last year, is oft injured but does his darndest to play through it, is well known (and respected from what little I can assume) and plays defense.

not only that
but when you sign and trade a player you can only take back half of the signed players value in contracts. In other words, Jackson would have to be signed to like an 11 mil per year deal.

On a side note
According to ESPN, it looks like the twolves just hired Kurt Rambis as their new head coach. Maybe the Kings could have just waited a little longer for Rambis instead of hiring Westphal right away?

Maybe the Kings could have just waited a little longer for Rambis instead of hiring Westphal right away?
Heck no. Westphal is the Kings coach and a popular one for now.
I hope the first class air fare to Spain is enjoyable. Las Ramblas is nice this time of year. As for January, it is cold and second guessing his impatience should be in full force at -15 F with the chill factor.

With-With-With
The minute Rambis copped an attitude, that was enough for me. I’m glad that he held out for the “better” job.

we have our own St. Paul for the time being.
Minny is a nice place filled with wonderful fans. Rambis has all the makings of a succesfful Head Coach. But unless he was told to back off, this makes no sense. He signed for $2M/season and a full four year tilt. It is interesting from the other side of it; when Phil Jackson hangs up the walking stick and decides to attend social functions with Ms. Jeannie full time, who takes the reigns for Kobe and Co.? Byron Scott, Brian Shaw….?? Smirkingly odd.

holy crap. thats an awful lot for a team that will be among the worst in the leauge for at least 2 years. I wonder how long it will take for him to get fired.

Why?
What has Kurt Rambis done that convinces you he was a better head coaching candidate than Paul Westphal? Because he picks up Phil Jackson’s dry cleaning twice a week?
by otis29 on Aug 9, 2009 6:28 AM PDT up reply actions 0 recs
Rambis did coach the lockout season
to a 24-18 record, then Phil Jackson came and took over.

Does that convince you he’s a better candidate than Paul Westphal? And two additional guaranteed years better?

he was the defensive coach for a championship team this last season
c’mon, I understand disdain, but give the guy his due.

The league is littered with assistants
That have worked on championship squads…and have flamed out as head coaches. And IMO, Kobe, Pau Gasol and Phil had far more to do with that championship team than Kurt Rambis.
Add to that, his winning percentage as a head coach (.649) in that strike shortened year was worse than the team’s winning percentage the year prior (.744) or the year after (.817).
He may be a fine head coach – my point is, I just don’t get how this guy’s resume would cause anyone to be upset about spending less and taking Paul Westphal.
by otis29 on Aug 9, 2009 12:06 PM PDT up reply actions 0 recs
otis29, did i say Rambis was better than Westphal?
look, you say he’ll be a horrible coach, but he has coached well, if for 41 games. You haven’t given him a chance, relying on other examples, who you really cnat compare, you say that the percentages in the shortened season made him be worse, well losing one game would hurt you in the shortened season than in a reg. season since 1/50 instead of 1/82 Give him a chance before you say any BS about him

Huh?
look, you say he’ll be a horrible coach
Really? You might want to reread what I wrote.
I don’t know if he will be a horrible coach or not. He might be just fine. It just doesn’t bother me for a second that we have Paul Westphal coaching instead of Kurt Rambis. They both had warts – Rambis is a unproven guy who is suddently a hot coaching commodity by default (i.e. lack of other high profile guys). Westphal has had solid NBA success in the past, but that was a looong time ago.
So I guess that’s my way of saying it’s much ado about nothing. Westphal, Rambis – tomayto, tomahto.

Tomahto is better
