Kings Clips, September 15: Tyreke Evans Arrives Next Week

Sacramento Bee: Martin accompanies Jordan to Hall festivities
Sam Amick has more good notes in addition to the Martin/MJ vignette. Among them: Petrie plans to stick to 13 players on the roster (which would mean no Kyrylo Fesenko) and Tyreke Evans will get to Sacramento Sunday.

KINGS.com: Francisco Garcia Injury Update
Garcia will be cleared for full basketball activity next week, according to the team.

ComcastSports Philly: NBA Notebook
Evans has been doing two-a-days in the Philadelphia area with his brother acting as trainer. Working on passing, among other things.

HOOPSWORLD: Sacramento Kings 2009-2010 Preview

Orlando Sentinel: Sacramento Kings still the league's worst team

NBA FanHouse: Three Teams Cheaper Than the Grizzlies
The Kings will have the second lowest payroll entering the season, barring some wacky trades or last-minute signings.

Still don't understand

how the Rockets will have a better record than the Kings next year. Are T-Mac and Yao playing now? Did I miss something?

by LPKingsFan on Sep 15, 2009 9:36 AM PDT reply actions

I think the Rockets > Kings

Scola is darn good, Ariza is good, I like Aaron Brooks … and McGrady should be back by New Year’s.

Rockets play with a ton of grit too

And they happen to have one of the best coaches in the league. Who knows how to deal with injuries to his stars.

True points

but other than that… there’s not much there. Scola should average more than the 12 and 8 he did last year, but then again I’d expect Hawes and Thompson to beat those #s this season as well. I’m a huge Brooks fan as well, but then again we have Martin back, too. Ariza is good (and so is Battier)… but are they significantly better than our SF by committee (enough to make up the difference with Martin)? I’m not convinced, especially with Ariza not playing a role for a championship contender. I guess it depends on how effective you think T-Mac will be when he’s back. Color me pessimistic (and I like the Rockets and root for them when they’re not playing the Kings).

Ariza

“especially with Ariza not playing a role for a championship contender”

You lost me there. Ariza was the starting small forward and designated stopper for the champs.

Worded poorly, so you must have missed my point

He’s not playing a role for a championship contender anymore. Thus, now as a role player on a team without Kobe, Gasol, etc, I don’t think he’ll look as good.

by LPKingsFan on Sep 15, 2009 12:33 PM PDT up reply actions

Ya he'll probably be better

since he’ll have to take on a more prominent role.

OK

Makes much more sense. Though I think that while Pau and Kobe are good passers and pressure relievers, the effect might be overstated. Good players find a way to get it done.

Thats true
Good players find a way to get it done.

and the league will find out this year just how good he is without those other weapons to run interference, whether he is just a very good role player – or has the chance to be a star.

I guess that would mean Section 214 is really:

Etc...

Houston will challenge the Kings for futility until T-Mac gets back and then they should do better. They have NO size after Yao (maybe the Chuck-Wagon or Landry will start) and since he’s out they are hurting. It would be like us without Hawes… imagine that!?!

The hoopsworld preview of the Kings was fairly accurate and balanced. The only ridiculous statement concerned K9 but we’re all used to KT being associated with ridiculousness.

It might be too early

to be thinking like this but I’m ok with having one of the lowest payroll as long as there is an actual plan to make the team better. I know there is very little chance at landing star in the summer of 2010 but we better darn well try atleast. Sometimes I get the feeling that the team is just being plain cheap.

Damnit TZ

You almost had me fooled into thinking there was a unscheduled preseason game tonight against the clippers with that title.
