Around SBN: Ray Allen Fighting Age, Injury And His New Role

Tyreke Evans – Because the Kings are bad, and because there will be very little keeping Evans from shooting the ball whenever he feels like it, Evans is going to have some of the most impressive numbers in this rookie class. This kid is a legitimate talent and he's clearly in one of the best situations in terms of playing time that a first-year kid could have. Of anyone, he'd be the guy to give [Blake] Griffin the biggest run for his money [for the Rookie of the Year award].

Glad someone knows what he's talking about.

I agree on both points. Brandon Jennings has Rubio-style floor vision with NBA-level quickness and athleticism. No, I’m not just making this statement based on youtube videos (although Jennings’ youtube highlights are just as impressive). It’s unfortunate that Jennings won’t get as much playing time as Tyreke will (due to the Sessions signing). However, I’ve think Sessions can play the two with Jennings at PG, so we’ll see.

Go Tyreke!!!

Um,

That little paragraph was kind of a slam on the Kings.

And considering that Tyreke is not known for his stellar shooting ability, the idea that he’ll be jacking up shots whenever he feels like it is rather depressing, and seriously not pointguard-esque.

Not to mention the fact that it implies that Westphal isn’t going to have an offensive scheme except, “let’s see what Evans can do.”

It’s a slap, just like ESPN ignoring Evans. Don’t think any different. We get no respect, and don’t deserve any at the moment.

The draft lottery has reinforced my belief that there are not enough bad words in the English language.

A slam on the Kings?

How? Did you watch Kings basketball last season? Our having the league’s worst record was no fluke. We were legitimately terrible

by vfettke on Sep 21, 2009 10:56 AM PDT up reply actions

Right

And we seem to be cheering the fact that a columnists says that we are so terrible and will have so little offensive gameplan that ’Reke can pretty much throw up shots whenever he wants so he will have a shot at being rookie of the year. yay for us!

I’m actually working on fan post about this, but what if Westpahal’s plan is actually winning some games this year? We are so caught up in things like who will play in the Rookie game, who might get what minutes, whther Donte will pan out, that we seem to be taking for granted that we will suck so bad that the only we should care about is ROY.

I could care less who gets rookie of the year. I would gladly trade that for an extra five wins, because one is a maningless bit of fluff and the other says we are back on the road to success.

If Westphal has an actual offensive system for this team and wants to win games

you can bet your ass a large part of it will revolve around Tyreke Evans. ’Reke will get plenty of shots simply because there are so many to go around

by vfettke on Sep 21, 2009 2:25 PM PDT up reply actions

But
because there will be very little keeping Evans from shooting the ball whenever he feels like it,

This is not saying there will be plenty of opportunity. It’s saying, these guys suck so bad and have so little offensive plan that the dude can jack up shots whenever he likes. Who’s to stop him? Last time I checked, our offense was scoring pretty well. We don’t need a ball hog. Anyway the point was is this a lap. I say yes. Desereved or not we will see.

Not correct
Last time I checked, our offense was scoring pretty well.

I agree with your overall point but that quote is just false. Our offense was ranked 25th in the league(in offensive rating) last season. That is not scoring pretty well. We were 26th in field goal percentage. That is not scoring pretty well. Stats taken from Basketball-reference.com.

I believe you know that using raw points per game is not a realistic measure of offensive ability, because it is skewed by pace, but many others here don’t. So please don’t use that fallacious stat. It’s misleading and it’s not necessary for your argument anyway.

I’m sorry for the fierceness of this post, but this subject is my pet peeve. Beginning when people claimed Adelman couldn’t coach defense and continuing right up to the present when people think we had a good offense just because we put up a lot of points.

I agree with you 100%

But notice that I din’t say our offense was rebounding well or had a high shooting percentage. Just that we scored enough points.

My point, which I probably didn’t state very clearly, was that the last thing we need is someone else jacking up shots. We need a real offensive game plan which should help all of our offensive stats.

Thanks for the reality check.
