Brockman
What are Kings fans thoughts on Brockman going into the season? I'm a Blazers fan but a Husky fan first and would love nothing more then to this guy succeed in the NBA. In college he had trouble scoring against guys like the Lopez twins but he could grab rebounds against anybody, he's got the knack for rebounding they can't coach. Are fans expecting much from him? Does it seem like he'll get much playing time?

I think it is fair to say
that Kings fans love his apparent toughness and his ability to board.
It’s too early for anyone to seriously have specific expecations. But no one probably anticipates anything on offense. No one even really wants that. We go Tyreke Evans, Kevin Martin, Spenser Hawes (another friend of yours?), Jason Thompson, Francisco Garcia, and so on and on long before we ever come to Brockman in the scoring column of the box score.
However, we want him to produce in a few minutes. Our two big positions are not deep at all unless he an eat some minutes, grab some boards and frustrate some opponents’ bigs, hopefully leaving some bruises to remember him by.
Really, we are hoping for a Sean May renaissance first and a Brockman elbow from time to time.

Now a question for you.
Overlooking you Blazer love, I ask:
Who is our next purple (Huskies) to purple (Kings)candidate? Let’s keep the pipeline primed.

I'm a fan of Hawes but
he was only at UW for one year and everyone knew he’d be an NBA prospect when he was 14. Brockman has had doubters for a long time.
As for more UW candidates, we don’t have any more big men I can see making it. We have some athletic wings, Quincy Pondexter is the only senior. He has NBA talent for sure but hasn’t really put it all together. He’s the leader of the team this year and if he makes a splash he’ll be a first round pick. There’s lots of very talented guards and wings on the team with a shot. Abdul Gaddy, incoming freshman is probably the most likely lottery pick on the team. He’s young and will have to stay for at least two years. Otherwise there is last year’s scoring leader Isaiah Thomas who is great but at 5’8" has a tough road ahead of him as the next possible first rounder.
I’ve seen Gaddy play, he’s going to be great. A true point guard, 6’3" or so, great vision. Not a great shooter but that can be developed.

Save us from any more draft picks named Quincy!
The draft lottery has reinforced my belief that there are not enough bad words in the English language.

Mancakes
I think the one thing is that they know what they can get from him. He will consistently pull down tons of rebounds.
Playing time wise,,, It may be kind of thin. You have JT, Spence, and now May. I don’t know how much time he will get.
But I like him and his pancake eating ways though. Glad he got signed and hope that he works on his offense so he can surprise everybody.

I think the two things we need from him
are clogging the lane and rebounding. We honestly are not going to be bring him in to score. But rebounding alone will not earn him minutes unless he can also stop people from driving to the hoop. If he can play D, rebound, and get a putback or two, he can definitely earn some minutes off the bench. We’re always looking for the next Scott Pollard. I was really impressed with the way the kid can jump when I saw him play in Vegas. This is definitely not another Brad Miller—who was very much offense first, defense, rebounding, and banging down low last.

A few things…
First, I’m disappointed the Kings took the same approach to the preseason the Blazers did and are showing no games on TV.
Second, from the box scores, highlights and reports from the games I see basically what I was hoping to from Brock. He’s going to get rebounds in the league. He’s going to hit the deck for every loose ball. He’ll probably break a few noses along the way (his and others.) But I’m seeing some new things from him, most notably 7-8 from the line? That’s a good sign for your organization. If he can shoot 70% and develop a 15 ft jumper, he’s going to have a long career.
