Next year's draft:
Stern: With the number 1 pick in the 2010 NBA Draft, the L.A. Clippers select… John Wall.
John Wall: No, thanks.

Right now being a #1 pick in the west scary
Of the #1 picks in the 2000’s who went west all have now had leg problems. Yao, Oden, Griffin. Kind of interesting.
Also shows how much teams value big men
2009: Blake Griffin #1, Hasheem Thabeet #2
2008: Michael Beasley #2, Kevin Love #5
2007: Greg Oden #1, Al Horford #3
2006: Andrea Bargani #1, LaMarcus Aldridge #2, Tyrus Thomas #4, Shelden Williams #5
2005: Andrew Bogut #1
2004: Dwight Howard #1, Emeka Okafor #2
2003: Darko Milicic #2, Chris Bosh #4
2002: Yao Ming #1, Drew Gooden #4, Nikoloz Tsikitishvili #5
2001: Kwame Brown #1, Tyson Chandler #2, Pau Gasol #3 and Eddy Curry #4
2000: Kenyon Martin #1, Stromile Swift #2, Darius Miles #3, Marcus Fizer #4
From the looks of this list, only a few haven’t really been disappointments. The other positions in the top 5 haven’t been as big a disappointment.

Holy crap
2000 was a terrible draft

Michael Redd was the best player taken in that draft
and the Kings took the 2nd best player. Hidayet Turkoglu

That draft is how I know Petrie is a drafting genius
He literally found one of the only gems in a huge pile of crap.

I would argue Kenyon Martin is a better player
But, 2000 was utterly awful.
No mistakes in the tango, darling. Not like life. Simple. That's what makes the tango so great. If you make a mistake, and get all tangled up, you just tango on.....
Oh, hes in the laegue two and Jayson Thomson and that Boggins dude on Milwokee, and Occur for the Jizz. Its a talented laegue.--Kfan in Korea
Record-breakingly awful.
Players 2-4 are out of the NBA.
There are a few stars, some solid big men, and a lot of nothin'.
Stars: Howard, Bosh, Yao*, Gasol,
Solid: Aldridge, Bogut, Okafor, Gooden, Chandler, Martin
Question Marks: Oden, Griffin
Everyone else.
Yao has unquestionably played like a star when he’s been healthy, but his injuries are so numerous and have caused him to miss so much time, that it’s tempting to put him in the question mark category.
A lonely Kings fan in a sea of gold and purple...
I think you can split the solid into two categories
Solid with potential to be stars: Aldridge, Bogut
Merely solid: Okafor, Gooden, Chandler, Martin

Not convinced either LMA or Bogut will ever be Stars
but we’ll see.

I can see Bogut making an All-Star game or two
Don’t know about LMA
Father of the "Natt this!" movement and Grandmaster of the "Never let AnotherStupidSN forget what a Sham-Wow is" Order.
I think Bogut will get at least one
If he can stay healthy and the bucks can put together a good year. LMA does lots of things good, but there are quite a few players in the west that are similar.
I think I’d also put Al Horford in at least the solid big men category.

This is already posted
under “Thank you David Stern!” But since that title is rather confusing and does not mention Griffin, I’m going to let both shots stick.
SACTOWN ROYALTY - Try our thick creamy shakes!
Huge bummer.
I was really looking forward to seeing what Griffin could do against NBA big men. Hopefully everything heals up right and he can be healthy and productive and have a shot at ROY next season.
A lonely Kings fan in a sea of gold and purple...
Does ROY work that way?
or has he lost his shot at it?
Oden
was considered a rookie in his 2nd year, after “redshirting” his actual rookie year.
SACTOWN ROYALTY - Try our thick creamy shakes!
It works that way.
Griffin or Wall? Maybe they’ll both be Clippers. Yuck.
Lower their expectations and rise to met them
Clippers are playing decent ball
They’ll be a real longshot for Wall.

Sure, it could happen (unless they make the playoffs).
I just said it was a longshot.
by unfair weather on Jan 13, 2010 1:55 PM PST up reply actions
I mentioned this would happen when the drafted him
I wish Griffin the best… he has all star written all over him and hopes he gets to 100% back. I’ve got to the point where I hope next year is completely injury free for the Clips so they have 1 year of seeing what could be,
They would still have to lose the the Kings in any playoff games though
Have you heard Kayte's take on that?
She thinks he trains wrong for an NBA guy and is likely to stay injured if he continues.

She was not saying they are soft
Rather that the training is too intense for players in the NBA. HE should not train with football players either.

Dunleavy might be ineffectual
but I don’t think he’s lost his mind yet.
(but here’s hoping).
There's nothing to fear but everything.
I think that is pretty interesting.
I wonder why that is?
I’ve never heard of being too conditioned, right?
Well it's certainly possible to over-stress the body.
In strength conditioning you have set rest periods to allow a particular muscle group to heal and rebuild. Unbalanced conditioning can also have negative effects if, for example, you are building muscle only on the upper body without a corresponding focus on the lower body and trunk.
Extreme height or mass can further complicate things.
A lonely Kings fan in a sea of gold and purple...
maybe we need to bring this up to Andrew

that seems likely, they guy is ripped
But he definitely has an injury history.
I wonder as well how the techniques and knowledge of each NBA team’s training staff affects the overall healthiness of the team. You look at Phoenix, the way Amaré came back from multiple injuries and how Steve Nash is actually getting BETTER as he ages and wonder if there is something more to that. On the flip side, some team catch “the injury bug” and I wonder how much blame goes on the trainers and even the coaches.
There are definitely a lot of new ideas regarding working out and fitness in recent years years, especially regarding mobility, flexibility, and functionality, and I wonder if some teams haven’t kept up.

This thing is just cruel.

This sounds pretty bad
I had my middle patella tendon removed and grafted as a new ACL so I know this has to suck. I looked up some stuff on it.
When surgery is necessary, an incision is made over the front of the knee joint. The fractured ends are realigned and held in place with some combination of pins, screws, and wires. In some cases, a portion of the patella can simply be removed, but this is usually done for smaller fracture fragments.

Looks like we got super lucky by losing the lottery...
Missed out on this unfortunate piece of news, while getting the guy we would’ve taken 2nd for the cheapest amount of money.
The NBA: "Where 27 free throws happens"
Seems like there's a good chance.
Maybe its a freak injury tho. I am considering us quite lucky at the moment either way.
The NBA: "Where 27 free throws happens"
funny you ask that
When I watched him play in college, I kept thinking of how hard he went up to dunk and what that was doing to his body. Putting that much stress on your knees has to catch up with you. He got hurt trying on a dunk and I think that could happen on any team he could play on. Hopefully he recovers and plays well next year. I feel bad for the Clippers fans who go through so much pain while watching the Lakers always win.
Next year we need to find an Old #1 Kings player to attend the lottery though

Feel bad for Griffin
Not so much for the Clippers. Why didn’t they just have him do the surgery in the first place? Why dick around with you’re top pick?

thats what I was wondering too. You’d think the doctors would have already discovered something like that a month ago
We could be in the same position
if K-Mart hadn’t gone ahead with the surgery.

Decision for surgery is left up to the player right?
The Clips can’t order him to have surgery, or prohibit it. This is a case of Kevin’s decision vs. Blake’s.

Then Griffin is dumb
and Kevin is smart. But I don’t know all the details. Its not like the Clippers can force him, but they can encourage or discourage him from taking a certain course of action.

I think Blake opted for surgery
once he realized he has no chance of catching ’Reke for ROY if he comes back this year anyways. Better to take his chances next year with Wall.

i remember peaches a few days ago saying that reke has had sketchy, wobbly ankles his entire life, and that he’s likely going to have a fair number of ankle injuries in his career. BONK. am i the only one who didnt know this?
the RoY is definitely not a lock fellas
What I heard from Peaches and an interview with Tyreke Evans
is that he has had a lingering ankle injury since Memphis. Evans said he injured the ankle in college and kept playing on it. The same ankle has been injured a couple times now. I don’t think this is an entire life problem, just a lingering one from college. But then again, I might be wrong.
yeah we probably heard the same thing and i misconstrued it one way or another
