Key Word: Delusion

I was going to type "there are no words"

But delusion seems more appropriate.

I think people do need to remember we are talking about the Dallas Mavs here. That team has been linked with all kinds of wacky trade rumors in the past few years (Hell, one of those ridiculous rumors that made no sense actually happened, just not in their favor).

Remember this fine little rumor with thr Raptors last year?
http://www.hoopsworld.com/Story.asp?STORY_ID=11144

Or how about all the non stop raymond felton rumors last year
http://www.slamonline.com/online/nba/2009/01/raymond-felton-now-off-to-dallas/

Personally, I would hate being a Mavs fan right now. When your team is aging and past their prime and they start getting connected to wildly nonsensical trade rumors, it’s a bad sign of what is go come in the future.

That's why Dallas fans keep talking about trades.

They want to believe the Mavs still have a shot.

Part of it has to do with Cuban

he’s very vocal and is always looking for ways to make that team better. The dude offered to take on New Orleans’ two worst contracts to get Chris Paul

the felton deal

was reportedly set to go, but Augustin got hurt and left the Bobcats without another option at PG, so the deal was nixed.

I could be cool with this. Let me explain.

This would need to be a 3 team deal in which we would receive a decent defensive center, most likely a Chandler, hopefully not an Okafor, or at least his contract, and hopefully a Haywood’ or at least his contract. We would also receive a first round pick and Roddy Beaubois. And we would also be able to get rid of Nocioni, and best case scenario Beno/Garcia, but no young players.

I am not generally in favor of moving Martin. But if we could get talent and fill needs, then I am down.

Have you ever met a Mavs fan?

Because if you ever utter the words “trade” and “Beaubois” in the same sentence, they are likely to commit a felony on your face.

probably has something to do with an ex they all dated before … i believe her last name was Harris

by wallywagon11 on Jan 25, 2010 8:52 AM PST up reply actions

I wonder why they don't play him then?

I completely understand, I think Beaubois is gonna be an outstanding player. Kind of like a bigger Tony Parker without the defensive deficiencies.

And that is why, if a deal is to be done with Dallas that includes Kevin, he must be included.

by Ice_9ine on Jan 25, 2010 8:55 AM PST via mobile up reply actions

I really couldn't guess how good he is

But he does pass the “look” test I suppose (freakish looking athlete, little bit of a swagger, think his shot does not look broke. Granted all of this stuff could be based completely on stereotypes in my head but oh well)

He isn’t getting minutes because they have a lot of small guards already. If they can get a guard like kevin martin i think it would open up a few more minutes. OR maybe its just the fact that there are only so many minutes to go around between Kidd, Terry, Barrea, Beaubois, and Carroll (j/k about the last one there, just wanted to catch you off guard). Those are some vets they probably feel are “right now” just as good and not deserving of losing playing time yet.

If we HAD to trade Martin to the Mavs

I would make sure we offload Nocioni and make sure we get Roddy Beaubois. Otherwise, what’s the point? Howard would make us tougher (if he’s not hurt)… for the 6 months before he takes off for a new team.

My point exactly.

by Ice_9ine on Jan 25, 2010 9:44 AM PST via mobile up reply actions

Howard's contract has a team option for next year, I believe

so he would only take off if the Kings let him… and I’m not sure that would be a terrible idea. Especially if we could dump Nocioni. That’d be quite a bit of cap space to have without obliterating our core.

and if lebron is the litmus test for Kevin Martin … i dunno if i would bother arguing if i were you vfettke

No, I’m saying that if the Mavericks include Beaubois as a “throw-in” to any deal involving K-Mart, I will quit watching pro basketball.

by JayKim41 on Jan 25, 2010 12:56 PM PST up reply actions

Roddy wouldn't be a throw in

He’d be one of the only reasons this deal would be worthwhile. The Mavs are in win-now mode with their roster. Adding Kevin Martin would help a hell of a lot. Beaubois, on the other hand, is young and still learning the ropes. So you’re saying you wouldn’t trade your young, inconsistent PG prospect for a better chance at winning a ring? Say this trade goes down and the Mavs win it all this year? Will you still be pissed that they gave up Roddy?

www.mancancook.net

by vfettke on Jan 25, 2010 12:59 PM PST up reply actions

No way

He is our PG of the future (depending on how things shake out with Nick Calathes in Greece). His defense is already miles ahead of Martin’s and if given big minutes, would be our biggest scoring threat aside from Dirk.

by JayKim41 on Jan 25, 2010 1:25 PM PST up reply actions

So you wouldn't trade your PG of the future for a better chance to win a championship now?

Dirk’s not getting any younger and is having a stellar season. Devin Harris was your PG of the future and he was traded to give the Mavs a better chance to win right now, which has proven to be quite a good decision for them. IF Roddy’s given big minutes he’s a scoring threat. But that’s a big if. Plus, he’s not your second biggest scoring threat, Jason Terry is. Also, if you want your second biggest contributor to be a rookie point guard, then there’s something wrong. Meanwhile, Martin would be your second option, and you’d still have Terry coming off the bench. Martin with Dirk would be incredible. If Dirk stays on the perimeter Martin cuts for the pass, if Dirk posts up Martin’s there to launch the three ball.

Is Howard not healed up?

Why is he getting decreased minutes over the last three games?

by MustangMBS on Jan 25, 2010 1:32 PM PST up reply actions

he's all kinds of screwed up

but i wouldn’t exactly use the last three games as an indicator per se. They killed the Knicks by 50 points so I am pretty sure they were not going to risk playing him too much there

by wallywagon11 on Jan 25, 2010 1:34 PM PST up reply actions

I didn't know the fans owned the team.

This all comes down to Mr. Cuban. If he wants Kev, he will find a way. If Wayne Winston knows of Kevin as being super efficient, and let’s Cuban know…

But it probably won’t happen.

Another flaw in the human character is that everybody wants to build and nobody wants to do maintenance. Vonnegut

sorry i didn't know who you meant by roddy

I thought u were a kings fan talking about Kevin Martin. I only knew Roddy as Beaubois. As I think I made pretty clear earlier in this post, no way Mavs fans would ever go for trading that guy.

Dang

I proposed the exact same thing in the Assinine trade thread and everyone shot it down.

Martin, Noc for
Howard, Beaubois, Gooden +Cash to buy Gooden out.

Yeah i'm not convinced of it

But getting someone to take Noc off our hands would be great. And Beaubois has a ton of potential. I think this might be the best offer we would get if the front office does try to trade Kevin. Which may mean we just end up holding onto him. But i don’t think this is a horrible offer, at all.

Yeah, ha

Did not see the higher link.

But it probably won’t be long till pot is legal and there is no prohibition on NBA players using it for medicinal purposes.

I think Howard’s physical condition is much more important than his pot smoking. Truth be told, probably most of the NBA players already smoke pot. So what?

by KingsFan on Jan 26, 2010 8:47 AM PST up reply actions

although not really an ethical arguement against it

I would be sorta worried about their endurance with all that smoke in their lungs. I wasn’t the biggest fan of Vlade being a chain smoker. (by the way, don’t know all the testing they do over marijuana now but i would think most of that stuff goes on just during the off season. Although i do remember when they started testing they only did it at the beginning of the season so i am assuming that this has been changed somewhat)
