Charlotte is no joke – they’ve gotten better and better as the season has gone on and will be quite a formidable opponent in the off-season.
But a blow-out like this – both at home and at near full strength – hurts quite a bit.

Sergio can't play Defense.
But, who cares? This is better than the finish that was happening before this.

Nobody on our team can play defense
Westphal has been trying to shore up our weaknesses rather than play to our strengths.
And the results have been catastrophic.

Nobody means not a single player can play defense.
That is completely untrue.

who do you want him to sit?
"I make love to pressure" - Stephen Jackson
i hope so too
but please acknowledge that coming in down 25 generally means someone can play with little pressure. a performance like this does not mean sergio is better or more productive than any of the other guards. his energy is awesome, but we’ve also seen it work against the kings this year as well

Correction, I didn't mean start. Meant for him to use him off the bench.

Still think PW effed up in the third
and shouldve staunched the bleeding earlier. We cant go down that much.
I blame him. It was like we didnt even put a team on the court for that quarter.
curious
what should he have done? bring in entire bench? that usually means waiving the white flag
by thisismellow on Jan 30, 2010 9:33 PM PST up reply actions
I dont know ... when not having success on a regular basis you need to try
radical things. Beno disappeared in this game … Sergio couldve come in earlier. Donte was totally ineffective offensively. Noce was 3 for 5, why didnt he get more than 6 minutes???
I just dont get his subbing sometimes.
by VirginiaBlue on Jan 30, 2010 9:36 PM PST up reply actions
obviously there is no easy answer
i’m often critical of PW, but I don’t see what else he could’ve done tonight. pretty much everyone except sergio got in in the 3rd and there was no effect. i dont see any other options

Good effort by the comeback crew!

Really liked the Sergio/Martin/Casspi/Donte/Thomspon lineup
I’d like to see Reke/Matin/Casspi/Donte/Thompson more often. That might be the Kings’ best lineup, all things said and done.
PW definitely should go with that lineup!
Can Ziller email him?

We'd still get killed on the inside
But our offense would be better.

does JT guard oppostion C's?
not that it could be much worse than our interior D at the moment, but I don’t like Jt’s chances against opposition 7 footers. just my opinion
by thisismellow on Jan 30, 2010 9:37 PM PST up reply actions
And yet Thompson is showing MORE inconsistency
I agree that you are probably right on this, but after a strong start to the season, JT is in a BAD slump. He had better numbers today but I would hardly say he had a good game. I’m really hoping he develops into that player and I know I’m being hard on a 2nd year guy, but after he got my hopes up I’m having a hard time forgiving him for letting the bubble burst.

Would be interesting to see the plus minus stats for this lineup.

This lineup hasn't played together yet
At least not more than 8 minutes, according to 82games.com

Udrih-Evans-Casspi-Greene-Thompson
However is +2 in 38 minutes together. That lineup has the best defensive #’s of any lineup that has at least 35 minutes played.

Sergio
Always brings such a spark. I like him and Martin together. Why do we always have to have one horrible quarter? Damn we fought hard at the end though
Sergio sometimes brings a spark that's productive
many times doesn’t. Just comes out runs around tries to do too much by himself for 4 minutes and then gets sat back on the bench by PW.
"I make love to pressure" - Stephen Jackson
Yeah he only scored 31.

It was nice to see him in an offensive flow again.
But, I thought TZ captured it well this morning too. He’s supposed to do that. That’s what you pay him to do.

Who was his man?
Because Jackson and Felton had bad offensive nights. I didn’t see the game, so this is an honest question.
SACTOWN ROYALTY - Try our thick creamy shakes!
Well
In the crucial third quarter it was a mixture of Wallace and Jackson, and whoever it was scored basically at will. He was also really bad in transition – one of those Wallace leaks was his fault.
Martin was drawing Gerald Wallace as a defensive assignment?
Really? What a mis-match.
SACTOWN ROYALTY - Try our thick creamy shakes!
Wow
Don’t the Kings have at least four other guys that would be better at covering Wallace? I have a hard time blaming Martin for not handling a an all star small forward, especially when no one else could handle him, either. Curious match up, that’s for sure.
SACTOWN ROYALTY - Try our thick creamy shakes!
There were times where Omri & Donte defended G-Dub and he'd hit a fadeaway.
It was that kind of night for Gerald.

Looking at it further
Jackson was 5-19 for the night, so I am amazed that he was scoring at will at any point in the game. It looks like Wallace torched everyone. Again, I didn’t see the game – I can just go by the stat sheet.
SACTOWN ROYALTY - Try our thick creamy shakes!
Part of the problem was Reke hobbling somewhat.
I think that limited Pw’s willingness to let Speed cover Felton and let Reke check Jackson. But nobody on this team had an answer for Gerald Wallace tonight. He showed why he was an All-Star.

Basically the only time he scored was in the third quarter
2-3 from the field and 2-2 at the line
I missed the beginning of the game, so maybe Martin was guarding him better. There were just some bad stretches where Kevin got overpowered by Wallace, Jackson shot over him, Kevin getting beat in transition – lots of miscues that was part of their run. Maybe the first half wasn’t so bad, but Kevin’s wasn’t pretty during that run.
Take it with a grain of salt
I’m basically operating off of a feeling I had in the third quarter that he was getting killed, but don’t remember the stretch very specifically. It may look different on a re-watch
I suggest both of you watch the game from the beginning to the end.
