Marcus Landry Waived by Kings
The Kings have waived small forward Marcus Landry. The second-year player started the first two preseason games of the season, but hasn't played since. He was considered an early favorite to make the team, and even today some wondered if he hadn't been playing because the coaching staff and front office knew what they'd get from him.
Shooting guard Joe Crawford and center Connor Atchley were both also waived. Neither has played much during the preseason. J.R. Giddens and Donald Sloan were cut last week.
The Kings' roster stands at 14. The only players without guaranteed contracts left on the roster are Luther Head and Darnell Jackson. Geoff Petrie said at the start of training camp that the Kings would most likely carry just 13 players into the regular season.

seems cold
wouldn’t be surprised if Top Hat has a bee in his bonnet over this.

Life is every mammal's journey from very very wet to very very dry.
Why would they wave him?
Beno is hurt,Garcia is hurt, Reke just sptained his 2 ankles,,,, the way injuries mave Kings me need another guard, i would havr signef him and sent him to Reno.

Good question.
seems like carrying Marcus for the 1st year player minimum is cheap insurance. It certainly won’t hurt our cap space or the bottom line that much. But obviously they feel that Wright was better. Athough I think they were pretty close, and I think Marcus has more upside.
Under the new rules in the D-league, the last 3 players cut get a chance at being drafted by Reno.

Thank you for clarifying about 2 ankles, "ankles" was pretty non-specific, it could have been any amount more than 1.

…although none of them were his own.

Does he get picked up by anybody?
Is he a legit NBA ready guy? Based on early reviews, it seems like he is. I peronsally never saw him play. So, I can only go on what was exchanged here.
he had one bad game with clipps but everyone was bad
He hasnt played since.

Head
Head has been more active on the defensive end with a few stills and playing well with Reke.

I wouldn’t mind getting Head.

that's why women are no good at math...
it should be “f + f(of)” simple order of operations

*sigh*
sorry to be the math major in the house, but…
if you’re looking at f as a variable to be distributed, f (of + f) = f^2 + f(of), not f + f(of)
if you’re looking at f as a function, and f is 1-1, then f (of + f) = f(of) + f(f), which really doesn’t make much sense, since we’re plugging a function into a function, which is really bogus. anyways.
I'll post up Westphal's comments as soon as I get out of the coaching presser.

I'm hopeful that he actually uses Elfboy's "We're a 'one hat' team" line.
How awesome would that be?

Yep,
I guess the decision Was in after all.
Just not the one we thought. They’re going with the veteran.

I'm guessing we start with 14, that that was it.
Head is experienced and Jackson is needed due to the frontcourt injuries.

I guess it will be fine for this season
but will Head, Jackson, Wright or Jeter return next season or are they just stop gaps for now?
One of the reasons that I preferred Landry over Wright or Head, is that I thought he has a better upside and could stick with the team next season. Maybe that’s looking too far ahead, but I didn’t think the difference this season was going to be that different. And, all three would be insurance players with limited PT.

Perhaps my guesswork that PW was using Marcus
to motivate/straighten out the heads of Casspi and Greene may have been correct.
Did it work? Not really showing in their stats yet.

I've always thought if he didn't get the chance based on talent, it was as a favor to Carl
Kind of like the Thompsons. Hard to know what PW saw that made him pick Wright over Marcus. I just hope Marcus gets picked up by some team because I think he can help someone.

PW seems to be a fan of Wright
going back to their time in Dallas based on a few of his comments.
There is another option
Petrie could have showcased Marcus for Carl with the understanding he was not likely to make the team, but would be showcased and more likely to get picked up by somebody else.
I didn't major in Common F-cking Sense, but ...
Or they simply wanted to give him a legit chance to make the team
and they chose to go on a different direction. It doesn’t have to be that complicated all the time
"Children want what they want when they want it." ... Andy Sims
Why?
The roster is pretty much set. Dalembert starts the season on the DL. Whiteside will either be inactive or on the DL. Darnell Jackson in.

I guess it's time to set the rotations
and get ready for the season
"Children want what they want when they want it." ... Andy Sims
So, set them
Cuz of course with Sammy out
Carl more than likely at PF since JT is needed to backup Cuz,
JT at SF because everyone believes we need Omri’s offense on the 2nd team even if he hasn’t shown much as yet
Cisco a the 2 if he’s healthy but if he’s not, and Reke needs to sit out the 1st game, Wright or Head?
Beno at the 1 if he’s healthy other wise we’re up the creek for the 1st game with Jeter or Head?
I can’t decide how the rotations are going to look. What’s your thinking?

correction: Donte at SF not JT. 2nd time I've made that mistake.

Not everyone
everyone believes we need Omri’s offense on the 2nd team
Even though he’s looked a bit erratic offensively – and I get the argument, I think he should start. What’s wrong with Cisco’s offense for the 2nd unit along with JT and Donte?

I think the first unit needs his rebounding and energy . . .
Landry just doesn’t rebound much, neither does Donte’.
We’re giving away our new size advantage IMO.

Just the opposite for me
Cuz is by far our best rebounder, and when he sits that’s when we need Omri’s rebounding ability.
We’re out rebounding our opponents now, and Omri hasn’t started 1 game, yet. Besides I don’t think PW has or will ever do a bulk line swap. Cuz will get his 6-7 minute stretches unless he gets in foul trouble. So, we’ll probably see a player or 2 swapped out with him.
One point, I’d like to make is that when Dalembert does return and if Omri does show that he does have the offense he showed last season, then I can see Omri starting in a backcourt with Carl and Sammy. Because Omri as a slasher/rebounder adds a option that the others could use. And, I like the backcourt of Cousins, JT & Donte playing together.

Nothing wrong with that,
and we might see that at times, but I just like Cisco over Head at the 2. But, a lot will depend on whether the Kings are trying Tyreke more at the 2, because they might be playing him more there this season, or he’s playing there because of the injury situation.
In fact, right now I like the Reke, Beno, & Cisco three man guard rotation as our best option, with Jeter and Head as the 9th & 10th players off the bench. I think Wright is at the end of the bench, and when Dalembert returns, Jackson will join him.

I disapprove of losing out on Landry
just as I did last year. I think he has a real place in this league. Best of luck to him.
Crawford also has a place and I hope the Kings send him to Reno.
Atchley probably shouldn’t set his sights on the NBA. He’d be awesome in Europe though.

Crawford has his rights owned by the Texas Legends
so he would be sent there, not to Reno.

The team can send him to Reno per the new NBA rules about the D-League.

Man I really enjoyed Landry...
But maybe I’m biased because I talked to him forever at the Kings meet n’ greet thing. Dang…
I just thought he was way tougher, scrappier, reboundier, and shootier than our other invites, but he’s not quite the 2-guard Head is I guess.

Why Head over Landry?
Landry has way more upside, Head was a disaster in the 4th against the Lakers. I hope they keep Darnell over Head. Head was horrible in the playoffs with the Rockets and seems to take wishful shots instead of passing.
I thought Head had like 3 or 4 steals in the fourth against the Lakers.

Why Landry
i would of cut Head over Landry I believe this is the only actual cut Kings have made in 15 years that I am actually upset about especially after seen the guy play in person :(
