Five Years of Sactown Royalty
Five years ago today, I opened up this little slice of internet to desperately thin fanfare. Nearly 3,000 posts, 10.5 million pageviews and 3,500 registered community members later, I'm quite proud of what's been created for Kings fans local and abroad.
I hate these long Oscar acceptance speech blog posts, but I would be remiss to thank all the loyal readers and especially my co-writers section214, Exhibit G, Aykis16, rbiegler and (from back in the day) louismg. I also couldn't do it daily without the great social and technical support of the SBNation team, especially Tyler Bleszinski.
But enough of that. As the great Donte Greene would say: Lehs go!

Long time lurker here
Don’t comment much, but I’m on this site 8-15 times a day.
It’s a haven for a poor lonely Kings fan in Santa Rosa. Thanks TZ, you’re a saint.

Please comment more often
Simply so I can read your username more often. It made me laugh.

You don't really want that....
My username is really my only redeeming quality.
Plus I wanted Rubio and Wesley Johnson once upon a time, so I’m clearly missing a few chromosomes or something…

No mistakes in the tango, Donna. Not like life. Simple. That's what makes the tango so great. If you make a mistake, and get all tangled up, you just tango on.....
If it makes you feel any better
it’s scientifically impossible for you to be a bigger idiot than Exhibit G
Hard to imagine it all started as an A's fan inspired blog then a few Fraisers and Joeys later
Giving sports fans a new way to find similar minded fellows to watch their team on this slice of the internet pie.
Go Kings.

Happy anniversary sir !!
This site kept me going this off-season , and will for many more im sure.
True story
It was on the pages of Sactown Royalty that I met my wife!
Ok that’s not a true story, I met my wife at an Arbys. In any case congratulations Ziller. And thanks for being so kind to include all of us in your journey. We’re all better (at least as Kings fans and writers) for it.
Congratulations Tom
When I came across this site, I was overjoyed. Since I moved to Colorado, I had no way to really follow the Kings and interact with fans. Being a part of this community has helped me to become a far more knowledgeable Kings fan (although some would debate this).
I also want to say thank you for letting me be part of the writing crew here. It’s an honor to be able to contribute flaming-bag-of-poo jokes to the front page.
Never forget, I'm an idiot.
Here's to 5 more!!!
(fingers crossed)
F#ck Kobe Bryant.
F#ck Shaquille O’Neal
F#ck Phil Jackson
F#ck Rick Fox (twice)
F#ck Sasha Vujacic
F#ck Robert Horry
F#ck Derek Fisher
F#ck Dick Bavetta, Bob Delaney and Ted Bernhardt – I’m still waiting for them to have their jerseys retired at Staples.
F#ck Every Laker fan who comes to Arco Arena, wears his hat sideways and stands up and cheers with his arms out and his back to the floor whenever Kobe scores a basket.
Oh, and F#ck Jack Nicholson, Dyan Cannon, and that silver haired douchebag wearing the snakeskin boots.
Who’d I miss?

And it's been an eventful half decade. Let's recap!
In the last 5 years:
- The Kings have been on the decline.
- Ziller has been seen a grand total of two times: once on KCRA (although all video footage has been destroyed), and recently at a Kings event also attended by Aykis and jjham. Neither of them have any proof that he was actually there.
- PookeyGuru has been called long winded by such famed authors as Ayn Rand and Steven King.
- Exhibit G has gone to great lengths to show us what true idiocy is.
- Rbiegler has had the following terrible things happen to him to account for his long absences: was held captive by an Aborigine tribe to be used as a virgin sacrifice, until he convinced them that third base does, in fact, count; tortured by Jack Bauer for information regarding a top secret stash of Twinkies. He did not fold; was the fascist dictator of a small South American country for a short period; got married.
- To get his job, Aykis16 actually had to murder louismg, who is now buried in Ziller’s backyard. This has done wonder’s for Ziller’s garden.
- Somehow, after all this time, Section214 has come out looking like the normal one of the bunch.

Congrats TZ!
And thank you! It has been a pleasure to read this blog. The writing is great and the blog is well-managed. It has helped me stay a Kings fanatic even though I moved to Redwood City. Looking forward to another 5 years!

Congrats, Tom!
Thanks for the diligence, the excellence, the humor and the perspective. The science bears it out: This is the best community of Sacramento Kings fans in the universe.
You, section, Aykis, ExG & rbigs have really created something special here. Many thanks, and cent’anni!

I cannot thank Ziller, or the rest of you, enough for this website
Without this website I wouldn’t have eventually been able to do so many great and fun things that I didn’t think had been ever possible. I wouldn’t have been able to go to a Kings workout and proclaim that Hassan Whiteside was the sh*t. I wouldn’t have been able to have a microphone to ARCO Arena’s PA system while being heckled by a bald guy and a Jew. I wouldn’t have been able to invent a nickname for a bench player that became a media campaign. I wouldn’t have been able to write a long-winded comment that makes me look like a selfish git.
So thank you, thank all of you.

Great Site
I follow it faithfully from up here in Grass Valley. Posting occasionally.
Also a great sight
and occasionally good for a great cite as well. Thankfully the site rarely grates.

Love seeing STR grow into such a great community as much as I love watching our team develop. Go Kings!
I've been here a little over 3 years...
and I have witnessed this website go from a handful of dedicated Kings fans to an insane kings-loving mob. Thanks to the editors for all the quality articles! You really help to enhance my Sacramento Kings experience. Happy 5th!

I remember when visiting every couple weeks was (unfortunately) enough to keep up with the updates.
Then it seems like overnight I visit and the front page has nothing more than two days old.
Now every piece of related Kings news is here, almost instantly, and the statistical analyses have become excellent.
Note the lack of a hyphen.

Happy birthday!
I only discovered StR last season but I was instantly smitten. Haha. I love the game threads and the wonderful commentary. Thanks for all the work you guys do!
It’s weird, I follow one blog daily and they also had a post today about it being their blog’s anniversary, albeit a belated one. Kind of a weird coincidence.

An incredible site TZ , an even better community
So much has happened in the last 5 years. In the years before the BEE folded I would come here after I had made the major media stops. Now you are major media, big time, ubiquitous and a really excellent writer. With the spin offs of Pookey, Aykis and jj and I’m sure others will follow you are becoming the left coast version of Henry Abbott. I have no doubt that the next 5 years will even more transformative than the last 5 years. I also have no doubt that you are going to be among the leaders of the positional revolution in sports media. Congratulations on a fine, fine job.
"I make love to pressure" - Stephen Jackson
First found out about this
when I was living in coastal Georgia, of all places. Now I’m living in SoCal, behind enemy lines.
This is my refuge from listening to all the [redacted] news. I’ve really enjoyed the information, insight, and even some of the snark (not mentioning any names) and I’m looking forward to the coming years.
GO KINGS!!!!

when you wake up in the morning and see this awesome community you’ve created with all of its members and their personalities, do you get a sense of pride? Or do you just think to yourself “Oh God! What the fuck have I done?”
Seriously though, thanks for running this thing. I’ve earned a lot of money surfing this site when I should be working! And thanks for never banning me, although I’ve deserved it on numerous occasions
Congrats TZ.
5 years ain’t no small feat.

Before I found out about this blog I would just go to Sacbee or Kings.com. Sactown Royalty has not only the best Kings info, but also the best insight to our team. Thank You TZ for making this site I also want to thank Section, Aykis, Exhibit, Rbiegler, and all the other Die Hard Kings fans.

Congrats, sir
The site has been successful largely due to an extraordinary amount of hard work combined with a talent for incisive writing and a deep knowledge of basketball. I said it a very long time ago and it remains true today. This is the best Kings blog on the Internet. Thanks for a great site and congratulations.
