Around SBN: Events Cause Mariners To Lose To Rangers

Especially after my best year in my career in the NBA, I’m not going to go to Slovenia and play behind [Jaka] Lakovic. Lakovic is basically a back-up point guard now in Barcelona behind Rubio. He’s a great player, I’m not saying he’s not a great player but he’s had eight years and he’s had a chance to do something as the starting point guard, now let’s change something. They don’t see it my way so I will just move away and say look, you have a lot of good players and I don’t want to bring a wrong vibe in there. I wouldn’t be happy and when you aren’t happy, dangerous things can happen and I’ve had that problem before.

Honest approach.

Much preferred to diplomatic-politically correct-behind the back-stabs.

Keep it up Beno!

Note to Kings management -

1 – Don’t sign Lakovic.

2 – If you ignore #1, please don’t make him a starter.

He's got pretty sound and mature reasoning there

I can’t say I blame the guy at all. When he first left and I read about it I thought it was pretty fucking ridiculous that he wasn’t starting. A back court of Beno and Dragic would’ve been awesome for that team

by vfettke on Oct 24, 2010 10:57 AM PDT reply actions

Eh i still would

have showed up…if he is really as bad as beno says he is, then he would have beaten him out 4 the spot in less than 3 days

by shadowchicken on Oct 24, 2010 2:30 PM PDT reply actions

He did show up

And it was still decided he wasn’t the starter so he left the team

by vfettke on Oct 24, 2010 9:20 PM PDT up reply actions

So basically he's a team player if it's on his terms?

Groovy.

I think you have over simplified this Otis.

The Slovenian National team is an optional/extra curricular thing. For an NBA player to be told that he is going to ride the pine while a bench European player starts is a little odd. Hey LeBron, we want you to come play for team USA but you have to back up Rod Benson…and yes, for Slovenia, Udrih is about equal to LBJ.

It still appears that Udrih's reflexive decision was to walk away from a difficult situation rather than try to be part of the solution

Sorry, I like Beno and all, but his recent history as an NBA player doesn’t exactly scream “team player” – and there’s probably another side to this story as well.

P.S.

Very well done interview(s) jjham – I’m digging your site.

The Slovenian team isn’t managed well basically. Beno Udrih and Goran Dragic are your 2 best players, and you won’t start Beno? If I was Beno, I walk away too.

thats a grown man's play in a grown men league: Kings / Clippers

Well Beno’s right: this aint bout egos colliding. We are all men, we deserve respect. You cant have a backup guy on a soft euro (young men league) team, start ahead of a NBA (Grown Men’s League) starting point guard. I wanna smoke whats solvenian coach is smoking or whatever he is getting paid under the table for starting Lakovic.
THESE ARE GROWN MEN IN A GROWN MEN’S LEAGUE.
well created argument: Beno. Now go create an assist.

Success is often a misstep in right direction: Bring back Mitch Richmond and we are talking playoffs.

Kings = Giants: team of misfits

i hope beno can run this team full of young buckaroos full of talent.

Success is often a misstep in right direction: SIR, PETRIE, SIR,"we need capable shooters at 25ft, the enemy is approaching, SIR".

If the coach felt that he couldn't contribute

Then it was a mature decision to walk away and not create discord among his teammates who might have sided with him.

Good call, Beno.

Oh darn

a key contributor on the Kings decided not to play for free for some other country that I could care less if they win or not in international play. Gee that really sucks. oh no.

I predict JT will never breathe through his nose.
