They gave up 40 in the second quarter?

Just freaking amazing.

"But the Kings went in another direction, and that’s today’s reality: a full rebuild, multiple coaching changes, 42 wins in two seasons and a 3-6 start this season. Meanwhile, Ron has a ring and is a key cog on the best team in the league, so I guess it worked out OK for him."

I can’t believe I’m going to say this, but the Kings suck. We got a bunch of role players except for Tyreke. I would rather have 6 good players on the roster than 12 role players. If we keep playing like this then Petrie needs to make some changes. Where is Udoka?

Another loss, I’m afraid…
To the Knicks at home.

With my expectations effectively lowered, I will watch this season with an eye on growth rather than wins/losses.

"For five decades (and counting), these fans have been blessed with West, Baylor, Wilt, Kareem, Magic, Shaq and Kobe. Seven of the 15 best players ever. At some point, the gravy train will end. The Lakers will bottom out like the Knicks did last decade, submarined by bad moves, poor signings and unlucky drafts. Their fans will flee in droves. Jack will pass away. The buzz will be gone. That's how the NBA works -- in a 30-team league, you can't always get lucky, not even if you're a big-market team with deep pockets. I don't know if that day is three years off or 30, but it's coming." Bill Simmons

There's nothing wrong with state schools

In my personal experience, I prefer state schools. For me, the classes are MUCH smaller (we’re talking 500 vs. 35) and the professors actually seem to care about their students. Much more affordable too.

by Christina_J on Nov 17, 2010 9:54 PM PST up reply actions

I've never been in a class of 500.

and it’s a difference of a couple grand, which can be a big deal.

The nice thing about UC’s is the grad programs are really selective, and it seems like if grad school is your thing, they have a nice transition opportunity.

by VenomySnicket on Nov 17, 2010 10:00 PM PST up reply actions

No UC's have my grad program

And ours here is pretty damn selective. They got over 250 applicants last year and only took 20. The average GPA for incoming grad students is over a 3.5 with GRE scores well above the 50th percentile in each category. Our program is highly regarded and doesn’t just take anyone. My graduating class will have 45+ people with no more than 20 of us getting into our grad program.

Oh, and just to clarify

When I was at Davis, I was i nclasses of 500, 400, 400 and 85. I’ve had ONE class at Chico with a few hudnred people. The average class size is less than 50 so the profs actually learn your names.

by Christina_J on Nov 17, 2010 10:06 PM PST up reply actions

I've had 2 classes at UCSC with about 80

I think class size is overstated. If one isn’t up for the work, then don’t go to college.

by VenomySnicket on Nov 17, 2010 10:10 PM PST up reply actions

Small class sizes are much better for me

I didn’t like the anonymity of Davis. None of my professors knew I existed and it was just kinda sad. Of course, not all classes are that big and my friends who graduated from Davis loved it. I’m not pretending that my experience was common or was the same as everyone else’s, but CSUC has been far superior for me.

OK, so because it didn't work out for one person it's a terrible school?

I went to UC Davis out of high school and transferred. DOesn’t make Davis a terrible school. It means it wasn’t the right fit for me.

small sample size, sure

but compared to UCSC, and Santa Cruz in general, depending on your major, the environment is just terrible. I know plenty of students at Chico who say the same thing.

I’m not a fan of UC Davis either.

If you personally haven't gone to a school you can't really judge it

We’re actually pretty highly ranked and have a lot of strong programs. I could find you thousands of students who love it here.

You use the term "students" lightly.

I’ve been up there plenty of times both to visit friends and initially when I was looking at schools. Chico deserves the rep it has for being a party school. It originated as a place where a bunch of rich kids would go so they could get away from their parents and have the time of their life. it’s a good city for teenagers. I will say that the people who DO graduate from CSU Chico can usually get a higher salary off the bat, but I don’t recall them having an above average graduation rate.

by VenomySnicket on Nov 17, 2010 9:57 PM PST up reply actions

Maybe this is just because of my major and friends

But the students I know are incredibly serious about their schoolwork. The average GPA for my major is about a 3.5. My friends who have graduated are variously in grad school, taking accounting exams, and getting internships across the country. I’ll be applying to grad school in the next coupld of months, including in Chico, which is my top choice. We have a great program here and we take school VERY seriously. Just because people party doesn’t mean they don’t also have theri shit together. People can do both.

Im not saying the whole school is bad. The English Dept. was weak

compared to what i was used to.

And I used to cover homicide trials where stupid frat boys would do stupid things. They seemed to happen there more often than other places (hazing, etc).
But Chico is my second hometown. Lived there 10 years, loved it.

But the actions of a few dumbasses shouldn’t tarnish the school as a whole. It’s definitely far from being a perfect school, but I don’t appreciate being told that my school is terrible.

Maybe you don't think it's terrible

and that’s fine. But there is no way in hell I would ever go there. Ever. If it was the only school I got into, no chance.

The environment is not conducive to the creative, and they don’t have a compatible major.

by VenomySnicket on Nov 17, 2010 10:15 PM PST up reply actions

In YOUR opinion the environment isn't conductive to the creative

Others feel differently. Hence the variety of creative majors and the students in them. Not having your major is obviously completely different. Likewise, I’d never go to UCSC because they don’t have MY major. And because I can’t afford a UC, but whatever. Feel free to stop insulting my school and town at any time though.

Chico is far from being a perfect place, but there’s no such thing. I love it here but not everyone will and that’s fine. I just don’t appreciate my school/town being judged by that small percentage of douchey fratbros.

If I'm making the decisions, yes

Only because the players need a sense of continuity (even with his erratic lineups). His coaching initially lost us tonights game. That lineup he had in the 2nd quarter (Head,Beno,Thompson,Jackson,Dalembert) was absolutely horrid. I feel like he is too lenient with his crew though.

I'm over it.

The Kings will finish the season with 1 of the worst records again. But we still have Tyreke and Demarcus to look forward to. We’ll add to that talent with another top pick in 2011 and when the CBA expires and salarys go down the Maloofs will spend that cap space on a free agent(hopefully). Blame PW all you want. Truth is he doesn’t have much to work with, just look at our roster. Anybody count how many uncontested Airballs the Kings shot tonight?
