Exactly.
That will just make him play worse.

You mention this not being good for either Omri or JT
but isn’t it really trouble more so for JT or Jackson? I can understand taking Omri out of the starting lineup, but I can’t imagine he won’t still see significant minutes. I think he’s clearly too good to relegate to the end of the bench, but needs to get much much better on the defensive end before the coach will really trust him as the permanent starter. I know that’s not ideal for Omri, but I think it’s clearly where he’s at.
So the question is, then, will Jackson continue to get the “4th big” minutes, or will JT start to take some or all of those? I still think JT is probably the odd man out, here. There will still be plenty of opportunities for him to get some chunks of time on the floor, via injury or someone having a bad night, but I just don’t see what he’s done at this point to warrant taking minutes from anyone (particularly, from Omri). JT has been getting decent minutes while Donte has languished in DNP-CD land, and now that Donte is back in a prominent role, I don’t see how JT will avoid Greene’s previous fate.

I'm not sure,
JT started at the small forward last game and he has played minutes there all but one game this week. I have a hard time seeing Casspi out of the rotation but I am sensing a tight 8-9 man rotation for a week or so to try and get this team to gel. I know that Cousins, Garcia and Udrih will get minutes but after that, it’s a crap shoot.

And PW is Craaaaazy sure the JT at the 3 thing works juuuuuust fine.

To be fair though
what did Donte do to get banished to the end of the bench? Are you really going to give Westphal the benefit of the doubt at this point?

So just to recap
Donte has played 55 total minutes in 10 games, with 6 DNP-CDs, and scored 18 total points. And now he is our starting SF for the foreseeable future? Awesome, when do call up D-Leaguer and make him our new 6th man once he hops off the bus from Reno?
Is it maybe not more sensical to see if Donte can follow up last games effort with another strong performance before thrusting him into starting role? OK fine upon retrospect I will go along with the idea that when you lose 6 games in a row in pathetic manner more dramatic maneuvering should be considered.
But what kind of message does it send to players, particularly Omri and Cisco, that a guy can do next to nothing in preseason and 10 games in, and is proclaimed as starter for foreseeable future?
What I can envision happening here is a loss of respect for head coach if these random and impulsive decisions persist. Losing respect for the head coach is first step to imploding as a team, playing selfish basketball, becoming fractured and divisive, and for this moment the Kings look headed in that direction.
This isn’t really a response to ASN, but I agree JT deserves to be benched, before PW names him our new starting SG.
I predict JT puts up 7 and 5 this year - Aug '10. (Current: 6.0 Pts 5 Rebs)
If you really want to drive yourself crazy
Think about Marcus Landry starting and playing all those minutes in pre-season and then being released rather than giving those minutes to Casspi/Donte’.

Good point
It’s been a…perplexing…start to the season, that’s for sure.

Westphal's benching of Greene sounds more understandable
When Donté said “I have to admit, I wasn’t working as hard as I should have been.”
The NBA: "Where 27 free throws happens"
Agreed. I guess that was the reason for the DNP-CD for Donte.
Also liked the fact the Donte became more humble and hungry as a result of the benching. Let’s hope things will work well moving forward.
Lazy in the gym,
and according to himself on the radio, lazy watching tape, wasn’t watching other NBA games on his off time -
But I’m sure all that was transformed by a few weeks on the bench.

Why can't it be?
"You can have the knowledge that a tomato is a fruit, but it takes wisdom not to put it in a fruit salad." Jerry Reynolds
All I can go off of is what Donté said there..
But based on it it sounds like Westphal lit a fire under his ass. And we know most of the other players in this league are working their asses off. Our only hope to get better is if all our players are working their asses off.
The NBA: "Where 27 free throws happens"
Exactly
It sounds like PW sent a pretty clear message to Donte (and indirectly to rest of the team). If you’re not going to put in the work, you’re not going to play. And after Donte put in the work he gets to play again.

I don't agree
because I (and I think plenty of others) did not criticize PW for throwing Greene to the end of the bench, but for the manner in which he did it and how he seemed to send conflicting messages. And the fact that at least partly because of the fact that Greene was not getting minutes, we got to witness JT at the 3.
Dunking Dutchman
PW has said he's very upfront with the players so I don't know if they're getting conflicting messages.
The media though, not so much. PW has no pact with the media to be upfront with them at all. That, of course, filters down to what’s visible to us.

"PW has said he's very upfront with the players"
He said that to the media, I guess?
I hope he was very upfront with Casspi about his DNP-CD.

I think the pattern has previously been established
DNPs followed by chest bump followed by BS “marketing” comments followed by trade.
"But the Kings went in another direction, and that’s today’s reality: a full rebuild, multiple coaching changes, 42 wins in two seasons and a 3-6 start this season. Meanwhile, Ron has a ring and is a key cog on the best team in the league, so I guess it worked out OK for him."

I think the difference here may be this
Donte put in the work and is getting rewarded. Hawes didn’t put in the work and he’s gone.

This move is good for the kings
he really provided that much needed spark on that horrible game the other night vs the Knicks. maybe thats all we need to win games, that much needed spark. i mean this is still a young team. often times they still get lazy like most of us (young people).
that DNP’s were good for Donte since he admitted of his mistake of being lazy in practice. and for now im liking what PW is doing although we havent been winning much games so far. i feel like we kinda judged him too early on why he hasnt “freed” Donte, guess its his fault after all.
so for some reason i kinda think that PW is like a mini version of GP, not really saying or showing much on why he does the things he do, then it kinda jumps out one day and were like oh, nice move.
*sigh as long as we get to the playoffs sooner im good =)
one more thing
i think coach is still trying to see who are the more consistent players in their following spots.
thats why hes constantly changing the lineups. workouts and practices can only tell you so much, like when he said that the second unit killed the first unit so bad that you felt sorry for them, when it turns out that that wasnt the case on the NYK game.
until the kings get consistent and play hard everyday 48 minutes not 12, 24, or 36, i dont think PW would shake the starters that much. its just a matter of time for our players. the more games they play, the more they will know how important it is to be consistent every night.
my personal opinion.
What was Donte supposed to say,
I’ve been busting my butt since I got to camp overweight, and I have no idea why the coach hasn’t played me. Yes, Donte had knee problems in the off season and gained some weight, but lost most of it before the season began. And, he started the last 5 preseason games, and the season opener.
I don’t mind Donte playing because he’s obviously one of the top 3 players we have at the SF spot. Does he deserve to start over Casspi, I don’t know. But, if he and Casspi share the bulk of the SF minutes it really doesn’t make that much difference who comes off the bench. But, if Donte’s starting, ends up costing Omri minutes because we end up playing Garcia major minutes at the 3, then I have concerns.
