No head coach yo-yos their players playing time like Westphal. Last season all I heard was Westphal was learning who his players were. Fine, I give him a pass on last year, But just like I expect the players to build and progress year to year I expect that of the coach too. There is no excuse for having a player go from starter to DNP from game to game. Westphal had all last year, all off-season, another summer league, a pre-season, to along with daily practices to determine who the best players were. He should have a set rotation by now. I don't really care who he settles on either, he's the one that has been there the whole time so I am assuming he knows a lot more than I do.
If he continues to move guys and screw around with rotations and playing time all season again there is no way he should be retained as coach. I think if he settles down and focuses on his core group I think Westphal could be a good coach. But if the leader of the team is inconsistant how can he expect different from his players. Even if the Kings drop another five straight I hope he sticks with his line up and solidifies the bench rotation. I think it will stabalize the season (especially when Tyreke gets right).
Just one man's opinion.
