I’m also a professional musician- a lot of people think that the music they’re making is deep, and slept on because of it, when the reality is that it sucks. That’s not to say it all sucks, and obviously there are phenomenal acts that never get any recognition. Even in the underground, however, most people are copying something else, and each round of copying leads to less understanding and less artistic validity. Not being recognized is not a virtue.
As an artist, you should know that's a severely weak and flawed argument
When someone brings up the originality of said music genre, when pretty much today there is no originality, in ANY form of music. Everything is based of something else or inspired by other acts. Such is the times we live in.
I mean I’m not a professional musician (although I play a few instruments, but no professionally ;P)
I try to stay very open minded regardless of what genres of music I listen to, thus my diverse taste in music is evident. I’ll listen to Radiohead’s Kid A today and turn around and listen to Cunninlinguist rap concept album “A Piece of Strange”
It’s highly faulty to simply say the entire genre isn’t as deep as one would think or as slept on when it’s obvious that the specific music I listen to that I believe to be as such isn’t listened to at all.
When a station like BET refuses to play Little Brothers’ music because they deem it too “intelligent” (something they actually said) and turn around and play White Chicks (a song about having sex with white chicks) you have to realize how upside down media looks at Hip Hop.

Seriously. If Tyreke is THIS poor at dealing with adversity, I’d trade him now. His lack of effort or fire is inexcusable. He looks like Stephon Marbury. As fans we think we hit rock bottom, next year with the draft, trades whatever and we’ll win a few more games and a few more years of the process and we are back in the play offs. We tend to think that 2 + 2 = 4 and that the process is very predictable and linear. OKC is a perfect example. They went from a handful of wins to 29 to 50 and we will see where they end up this season.
Look at Portland. Pritchard allegedly wrote the book on rebuilding. He’s gone, Oden’s likely out for at least a year. They signed BRoy to a max contract and he has serious knee injuries and at this point it’s starting to look like a max contract that can play at 75% of max play. If they get stuck with a young player and a crippling contract and unless LMA or Batum or someone steps up hugely they could be hovering around 8th seed, first round exit, poor draft position for the foreseeable future. They went through the JailBlazers era 3 years of rebuilding, drafting well and now they could be on the cusp of blowing it up and starting over again. As another point of reference check out the Huston Rockets this season.
The bottom line is first of all, not all rebuilds work. Secondly, they NEVER go as smoothly as everyone hopes. Some great players were drafted with a high pick and didn’t break out until they were on their second or even third team and largely considered busts. Not every player plays better in their second year. When things don’t go smoothly witness the game thread tonight.
After a season like we endured in the 08/09 season or the Nets went through last season fans think it just has to get better but just because we want it to get better doesn’t mean it will. If LBJ/Wade/Bosh are having trouble meshing after playing at the highest level how much more difficult is it to create a team from rooks and second year players who haven’t played with all or in case of Reke 7 of the players who are here this season. It is very much a work in progress and it might take more losses like this before the light goes on for some of the players.
Donté Greené came into camp overweight and out of shape and has admitted recently that in camp and at the start of the season he wasn’t practicing or playing hard. In his third season!!! Inconceivable. I wasn’t being glib. We may have to get worse before the team starts to get better.

I was thinking more about the timing of the trade deadline last year
and how everyone was saying that there was no way that they made a move. But I didnt mention any of that.

I was surprised too
but not shocked.
I would have liked to see them play together longer, as they could have made a wicked backcourt in the right system. But I also feel like there seemed to be way more going on behind the scenes that lead the organization lead to the best decision at the time.
The problem as I see it was that you risked Kevin Martin having very little value going into last summer.
I’m not sure the Kings had many reasons to not do a deal that involved cap space. There’s no reason not to hope that you might not get lucky in Free Agency.

The Rockets gave up some flexibility to acquire Martin in the sense that he was the best SG on the market.
I’m not sure that same feeling would have been there come July.
