Tyreke Evans Traveling With Kings, Listed As Day-to-Day
The Kings have announced that guard Tyreke Evans, who is suffering from plantar fasciitis, will travel with the team today to embark on a three-game road trip. Evans is, however, listed as day-to-day, and could still sit out the games in Houston, New Orleans and Oklahoma City.
On Sunday, Evans' brother Doc tweeted that he had spoken to Tyreke and that he would be resting his foot for the foreseeable future. The Bee's Jason Jones followed that up by reporting that the Kings had not heard directly from Evans regarding his status.
Evidently, either Kings medical personnel or Evans made the call to push the second-year guard into at least being available on the road trip. Had Evans stayed in Sacramento, barring an aburpt call-up of Hassan Whiteside, who is currently stationed with the NBA D-League's Reno Bighorns, the Kings would have traveled with just 11 players, including four true guards.
The Kings play at Houston on Tuesday.

Or they were like
“We agree you probably shouldn’t be playing until you’re healthy. But we’d also like you to come with us on the road trip, be with your teammates, and if your foot feels better after a few days rest (hasn’t played since Saturday) maybe even play”
The fact of the matter is, we don’t know what goes on behind those close doors. All I know is what I’ve read, and Westphal’s comments as of late after games have been almost foreshadowing Tyreke sitting down for a period of time anyway.

There could be a bigger story.
But it’s probably some foreshadowing of stuff that we could probably guess if we were really dedicated to it. It would be more or less a public confirmation from whatever JJ says.

I want it to be the Clippers, I love Eric Gordon, Aminu and Blake Griffin, and Baron is hilarious enough I can forgive his basketball failures. I have no beef with Kaman. I also like the Lakers-underdogs angle.
But, FUCK DONALD STERLING.

I'm guessing it's something along the lines of..
“Team Tyreke is not happy that Tyreke hasn’t been sat by the organization to heal so he can get back to putting up huge numbers.” See they have a “Blueprint” and if Tyreke doesn’t get his numbers he isn’t going to get his 2 max contracts.
Team Tyreke is starting to remind me of Maverick Carter. You know…the genius behind “The Decision”. They’re the ones deciding with Tyreke to shut it down and are excluding Kings management from the discussion. Which I think is not only disrespectful but why would you try to alienate the people who pay Tyreke??

I can't say I blame them.
I would probably do the same thing if I were in Team Tyreke. And in no way is this as stupid as "The Decision" in my opinion. It has some similarities with the entourage making decisions, but that’s about it. Unless there are some drastic changes, the season is over for the Kings. Why not let Tyreke rest so he can at least get back to being an All Star caliber player. If Tyreke doesn’t look good, Team Tyreke’s future doesn’t look good. I agree that it’s unprofessional and disrespectful to not include management in the discussion. They probably should have at least picked up the phone. But, everyone already knows management’s view of the situation: play Tyreke unless the injury gets more serious. Team Tyreke was just putting a stop to that plan.
Team Tyreke is a lot smarter than Maverick Carter.
Gotta disagree with you on that. However, I do think there is some level of interest in protecting Reke at this point from their end.
Some of me (and a lot of me leans toward this) thinks it’s about protection of Reke’s numbers. A small part is wondering why you have to protect a player from himself though?
This has been strange however you slice it.

I think you are mostly correct
And I can see from Team Tyreke why they do want to protect his numbers. Who wants to see six stupid articles on ESPN about “what’s wrong with Tyreke Evans”?
Protecting Tyreke
Seeing as we’re talking about a 21 year old who has a record so far of doing dumb things (note the arrest earlier this year and previous allegations), I can understand why his family would be more proactive in guiding his career. He’s still a kid mentally. It’s definitely better than the advice he’d get from his agent.
My only concern is that they get too involved and stand in the way of Tyreke’s success by suffocating him with protection and not letting him grow and learn.
As for my take on Doc Evan’s tweet, it sounds to me as if he just sat down with his brother and they discussed the situation at hand (Tyreke’s current performance and ailments) and he prematurely announced Tyreke’s decision without consulting with team management. (Possibly to attract more followers to his Twitter account?) Do I think Team Tyreke is trying to subvert the King’s management? No. Do I think Doc should refrain from posting news-like headlines on Twitter for the sake of his brother’s career? Yes.
I don't remember Tyreke doing anything dumb other than the speeding incident.

Just wondering, what are you confident of?
Is that saying you’re 100% confident that the Kings are a basketball team? That they’re headed in the right direction? That you’re a fan? That they provide 100% of seven essential vitamins and minerals?
I probably missed the memo when you started the confidence poll.

Totally uncharted waters
having a key player out to some kind of foot or ankle injury. What shall we do? We are sooooo used to having a full healthy roster.
I can see the sarchasm...
But those years have been far better years for us than this year. I understand the need for letting our injured players rest, but I’d also rather this not be the worst recorded season in Kings franchise history. Let’s hope Tyreke’s play is merely the result of injury and not him hitting his sophomore slump, or we’ll end up beating the 08-09 season for the worst record in Kings history.
Although really, it's only fair that he hits the soph slump.
After he completely bypassed the rookie wall.
In these times, you have to be an optimist to open your eyes when you awake in the morning.
~Carl Sandburg
Okay.
I’m going to try to stay on topic here, because Tyreke’s numbers warrant a whole separate topic altogether. (IMO, he didn’t get those numbers only by sheer talent and skill.)
Let’s say Tyreke hits the sophomore slump after a spectacular freshman year. Who are the Kings going to turn to to keep them from hitting worse franchise record? The Kings are currently on pace to win less than they did in 08-09 (17 wins total; 6 wins as of Dec. 13th, 2008).
Also, what does it say about the Kings and its management that we end up with a record worse than the year before we got Tyreke? What is our excuse? We can’t point our fingers at Tyreke, because he didn’t even play in 08-09 and we had a horrible record.
The obvious conclusion is that this team is underachieving (differences in roster aside; because I don’t want to even start comparing those stats) and if the only way for us to not get sucked into the trap of worst franchise season record (again) is to have Tyreke rip the team out of its pitiful situation, he can’t have that sophomore slump and he certainly can’t sit out more than a few games.
(All this being said, I sense I’ve been a bit over dramatic. I still see a brighter future for the Kings and I hope even without Tyreke, the Kings pull it together and keep themselves from at least not having the worst franchise season record again.)
Should preface...
I should have prefaced by stating that I’m comparing season records (08-09 vs. 10-11) to declare the team’s pace. If we were going to do it with simple mathematics (current wins divided by current losses, times 82 games = ~27 wins), the Kings obviously would be well ahead of the 08-09 season.
I drank coffee with dinner because I have to study for finals. Crap… THAT’S what I was supposed to do.
Who are the Kings going to turn to to keep them from hitting worse franchise record?
Ehm, to the team, perhaps? As good a player as Tyreke is (and for some reason he isn’t that great at the moment), teams win games, not players. They won their season opener without them, and will win more game if they return to their scrappy, combatting nature of last season.
Hell, LBJ left and even Cleveland managed to win a few games.
Dunking Dutchman
The team...
Ah yeah, I mentioned the team in my post. They are totally underachieving right now. I understand that a team wins these games not typically individuals, but it’s apparent the team isn’t playing their best, hence my hope that Tyreke’s recent slump can be overcome with rest. Otherwise, the Kings are going to have to play at a level we haven’t seen all season to make up for Tyreke’s ineffectiveness. (The one game they won this season without Tyreke was against Minnesota. The next four will be far tougher.)

My only concern with the Tweet...
…Is the tone that was used…
“Its done!”as though they closed a major deal!
Does this indicate that they had been trying to shut Reke down all along, (hence the false “hair fracture” slip up to Jason Jones), or is it that they are this excited that he doesn’t have to play?
The whole thing just seems to have a disconnect from a team perspective. I guess that’s to be said of all entourages though. They are in it for THEIR guy and the team aspect be damned. I don’t know, I just feel as though this doesn’t help the “its all about me” image some of us get from Tyreke’s play. Hopefully I’m dead wrong and he is all about the team too.
