Yikes!
6. The regression of Carl Landry
A year ago, Landry was one of my favorite players in the league — a spark plug off Houston’s bench who could score at the rim and from mid-range, and was not afraid to bang inside.
That player has mostly vanished this season in Sacramento, and not just because his minutes are down as part of a Kings frontcourt full of (theoretical) untapped potential. His shot attempts at the rim have dropped by half from last season, but he’s still taking the about same number of long twos despite his drop in minutes.
And his rebounding … oh my, his rebounding. Landry is the only player listed at 6-foot-8 or taller who has logged at least 200 minutes this season and grabbed fewer than 10 percent of available defense rebounds, according to Basketball-Reference. He is making Rashard Lewis and Hedo Turkoglu look like Dwight Howard, and he’s doing it on a team that ranks worse than the league average in overall defensive rebounding.
This makes me sad. Let’s move on.
At USC we're not snobs, we're just better than you.
That Landry/Martin trade is looking worse and worse every day...
Ironically, we’re now looking for a SG who can either defend or hit the 3.
And as much as I love Speed
He can only do one of those 2

I hated the trade then & I still hate it
That said let’s call it what it was, a salary dump. So if you call it a salary dump you can also call it a success.

it was more a changing of the guard and handing over the keys to tyreke
At USC we're not snobs, we're just better than you.
well, thats assuming martin had the keys
I just don’t think a team can be super competitive with a guy like martin and without a lot of good defenders without him. I mean, its not like the rockets are rolling either
Phil Jackson, after treatment for a kidney stone "When the anesthesiologist leaned over me, he said "We named your kidney stone Kobe because it's not passing."
And the Rockets have better defenders too.

Same here
That was an idiotic trade then, and worse now with 20/20 hindsight with the drafting of Cousins/Whitside and the acquisition of Dalembert via trade over the summer.
C: Cousins, Dalembert, Whitside
PF: Thompson, Jackson
SF: Greene, Casspi
SG: Martin, Garcia, Head
PG: Evans, Beno, Jeter
That’s a much better roster than what we have now. At least we have a legit 20 ppg scorer on that roster and somebody that can hit the 3. I don’t think there was enough time given to K$ with Reke.
Really I don't even hate it because I still want Martin
I just think we could have gotten more for him & if not then it wouldn’t have been a bad thing to keep him around until we get more for him. I mean it’s not like we got any better after the trade. They would have eventually meshed on the court.
I love beating dead horses.

I don't think PW liked Martin's defense
Besides developing the rookies, Westphal was tasked to improve the rebounding and defense. Hard to do when you don’t have defensive players, and Martin was one of the worst.

So add one of the worst rebounding power forwards in the league?
He’s also a bad defender. So how does this trade improve defense & rebounding?
I love beating dead horses.

Hindsight is always 20-20
and worse now with 20/20 hindsight with the drafting of Cousins/Whitside and the acquisition of Dalembert via trade over the summer.
We had almost zero frontcourt scoring when the trade was made, and it gave us a reliable scorer down low last season while slashing the payroll. And Kmart clearly didn’t want to be here anymore. But the addition of the all the new bodies and JT’s improved play have created a logjam up front that many predicted would be a problem, and it is.
"It really was amazing to see the difference in this team when Pooh was out there moving the ball. Crisp passing, set plays, movement, and Oh yeah, SMILES & PASSION exhibited by the other players on the floor."
I agree completely
The Martin trade was one the moves the Kings made these past few years that has truly pissed me off. It seemed as though the organization got caught up in the Tyreke hype and forgot they had an efficient 20 ppg plus scorer. Not to mention a true professional.
Another reason I think of this trade as an epic failure was the extremely short amount of time the two had a chance to play together. Some of that frustration is targeted at Paul Westphal. Is he not an experienced enough coach to make a backcourt with the likes of Tyreke and Kevin work? We were lottery bound before the trade so why not give it more time?
Sorry for the rant I know I need to get over this. I look at K-Mart’s boxscore everyday cause I KNEW he was going to be an integral part the Rockets scoring and therefore my fantasy league teams. Speaking of which, has there ever been a coach that was a bigger detriment to fantasy owners the PW?
