Tyreke Evans Won't Play Against Rockets; Luther Head to Start
Tyreke Evans won't play in tonight's Kings-Rockets game in Houston, reports Jason Jones of the Sacramento Bee. Luther Head will start in Evans' place.
This is just the second game this season Evans will miss. He was suspended for the season opener in Minnesota due to a league induced suspension stemming from his summertime reckless driving incident. Evans missed 10 games during his Rookie of the Year 2009-10 season for injuries including a sprained ankle and a concussion.
The current malady plaguing Tyreke is what the team has termed mild plantar fasciitis. To help deal with the pain, Evans has worn a walking boot when not practicing or playing, and wears a foot splint while sleeping. He hasn't practiced with the team lately, but has appeared in every game since the injury popped up. His performance, however, has been far below his standard, especially in the last two games.
Head started eight games next to Evans earlier this season as Paul Westphal attempted to imbue the starting five with more defense. Beno Udrih retook his starting spot four games ago. Head has played a total of seven minutes since.
Head will likely have the job of marking former King Kevin Martin, though Donte Greene could certainly get a crack at the scorer as well.

Forgot to add SOFT!!
I was uncool before it was cool
He absolutely ripped Tyreke for allowing his brother to tweet that he would be out...
Without speaking to the Kings first.
Grant was pissed.
Tirade was about it being unprofessional
to tweet it before you tell the team. Grant said if the brothers are going to be part of team Tyreke then they need to be professional also. I agree.
Grant explained PF to callers enough for me to know he has know idea what it is.
There are some guys smarter than me, some guys better looking, I take comfort in the fact that there is no guy that is both.
Right, because Tyreke has the ability to control his brother's actions
Am I my brother’s keeper? Com’n Grant! Quit being a Douche.
um, actually yes he can control their actions, in particular actions like this one.
I predict JT will never breathe through his nose.

If his brother is acting as a defacto business manager for Tyreke
Then Tyreke should make sure he has some control over the message being sent out.

Of course Luther Head starts
when Westphal called him a “Spot player” the other day. Of course.
Martin is going to shred him to pieces.

Thats why maybe the guy who is his best friend and knows all his tendencies (Cisco)
should guard him. Also, Kevin can’t just shoot right over Cisco, unlike Head.

Seems like a good matchup for cisco

Hard to get anything concrete from PW's comments
After all he’s starting the 11th or 12th man on the roster at SF.
I had Cisco starting because I thought that PW might trust a veteran with size. But, Casspi would have been my choice.
I think Omri would get thru screens better than Cisco, and Omri’s quicker. Plus the added heigth might affect Martins jumper. I also think that Omri would work Martin harder on the offensive end and that could take some of his energy out of his jump shot.
I like Head as a good matchup for Lee and Taylor who are 6-5 and 6-4. While Cisco might be better at defending Budinger who’s 6-7, Plus I’m guessing that Jeter has had more time working with Head in practice, so the two might be more comfortable together off the bench.
But, like PW likes to say, starting doesn’t mean your going to finish. And, how Beno does against Lowry may be more critical. If we can stop him, Martin isn’t going to beat us on his own and he just never gets others involved.

My choice as well
Casspi has aso been (arguably I guess?) our best offensive player of late. His D has been reasonably good as well.
Cisco playing earlier when his legs are still warm might also have been worth a try, plus he knows KM game.

Man Wetphal is really enamored with Head
I guess with the Rockets you can get away with that backcourt.
what man isn't?
I'm feeling like I want to rage...right now.

Alright
So how does this encourage guys like Pooh or Beno? Head has played 7 freaking minutes as of late and now he gets to not only play but START!? Just makes no sense to me from a confidence building standpoint.
I was uncool before it was cool
Let me guess
PW feels that he likes Pooh’s energy coming off the bench, or some similar line like he used on Omri.
As you may remember, PW is not interested in keeping his players happy. They should be interested in keeping PW happy.
I thought Cisco or Pooh would be more logical picks. But at least Head is well-rested.
By the way, I’m pretty sure Beno is starting. So why he shouldn’t be encouraged, I don’t know.
Dunking Dutchman
Well, I like Pooh's energy off the bench.
And I also like Omri’s energy off the bench. I think he plays better off the bench.
I definitely would have gone with Cisco. Head never even crossed my mind.

Luther isn't that bad of a choice
In spite of how PW has been using him and what he said about him, Luther has the best TS% of anyone on the team. And, that’s what you want at the SG. True he doesn’t take many shots but he’s always been on the floor with Tyreke and I think the let Evans have the spotlight. I think if he puts up Beno’s quantity of shots he can be just as productive as a starter.
Head is pretty good going to the basket, and he’s a good spot up shooter. He doesn’t shot well off the dribble, and that’s always hurt when he plays PG. But, he is a better ball handler than Garcia.
When it comes down to it, you need to be able to run and get thru screens when you defend Martin. So, I’m guessing by the end of the game we may see several players getting a chance to defend Martin. And, almost nobody ever blocks a 3pt shooter, so his heigth won’t hurt him there.

STR doesn't think so
Didn’t Head come in last in our poll of who should start in place of Tyreke?

I won't be surprised if we win this one ... because:
1) Been playing a bit better lately
2) Head will be over-over-over-motivated
3) The Rockets are quite small generally, so we have size on our side.
4) No defensive machup vs D.Green, if he’s aggressive. they have good defenders, but just too small for Green. Peterson and Jeffries don’t play much… Scola will guard inside…
Battier, though, can really make a Casspi type of player hurt…
5) no Reke (yes, I hate his game, even with last sesson’s form
yes, he is so much more harm then good, consistently
yes, he doesn’t know what “team effort” is and that is why…
… he makes JT, Donte and especially Omri miserable
but
yes, with propper tutoring he’ll become a fearsome player and leader)
hope for victory
Another somewhat mystifying lineup
change by PW. (Sigh) Looking for (hoping) K-Mart to live at the free throw line tonight. I still really like him as a player.
Over/Under on K-Mart tonight. I say 30.
Purveyor of Bull Plop
I'll take that bet.
Martin has only scored over 30 pts 3 times this season, he hit 31 twice and 40 in his last game against Cleveland. The Kings are one of the better teams at defending the 3pt shot. Where teams usually hurt us is away from the rim and inside 3pt range.
An interesting note: Teams take the 2nd fewest attempts at the rim against the KIngs. And, they take the most attempts inside 10ft than any other team. So, it would seem that our interior defense and shotblocking at the rim, is forcing teams to pull up and take the short jumper rather than try and take it to the rim. And, the total attempts at the rim and inside 10ft is just 0.8 attempts above the league average.
So, it will be interesting to see how well Martin does against Dalembert when he tries to take it to the rim. I’m guessing we’ll see a lot of those pull up jumpers from 10-12 ft that he was so good at when he was with the KIngs.

I voted Luther Head in the poll.
Me and PW are on the same page with this…

Plantar fasciitis
Plantar fasciitis can take a long time to heal very restricting.
Evans has Plantar Fasciitis. I have had it too.
There is a good web site explaining what is Plantar fasciitis:
