Truth be told...

Whether he “drinks deep from the chalice” of either man, it’s really none of our business.
This isn’t the military.
What a sordid poll.

I say let Whiteside play down in the D League for awhile.

Let him get some rhythm until he’s really shown that the D-League has nothing left for him.

It could also mean he's not ready yet for more minutes too.

That is a possibility.

Keep in Reno for a bit more

Maybe not getting enough minutes but still having trouble with fouls and still putting up decent numbers. If (when?) a trade goes down involving one of our frontcourt guys, then call him back. For now, I think he benefits more from actually playing games.

I want him back with us...

But I also want him to get playing time, and regardless of how little he gets in the D-League, it’s more than he’d get with Westphal.

I don’t know which one I’m voting for yet. Somebody convince of something.

it's almost a wash, the way things are going.

but like chenp said, if he’s not getting PT in reno, then he can get no PT in sac and face better opponents in practice.

Did you see him and DMC in summer league

Those two worked well together on the defense. He backed DMC up much better than current low post players. He runs to floor better than most of our bigs and has a variety of ways to block shots. Given the opportunity on the offensive end he creates his own shots when given enough time on the shot clock. Go back and check out those summer games and tell me he doesn’t deserve at least 20 min on the floor.

Donté Greene once scored 44 points in a summer league game,

and Jerryd Bayless was a summer league God. Just sayin’.

I say send Reke to Reno to practice his half court buzzer beaters!!!

Donte will be out the league in 4 years

To compare the two is a no brainer. With Whiteside potential most teams would gladly fine time on the floor for him. You don’t teach a 7’6 wingspan. As for dontes 44 pts i’ll take hassans blocking shots with his elbows anyday.

I'd like to see

Whiteside getting 10 minutes @ PF on our team. Playing against NBA competition has worked for DMC cutting down his fouls dramatically already. Whiteside will learn what to do.

If I'm reading the stats right

Whiteside is getting 12 minutes a game with the Bighorns. First of all, that’s probably 12 minutes more per game than he’d be getting here. I seriously don’t see him playing at all for the Kings, and if he did it would be against the scrubs. Do you really want him to be our White “side” Flag or our human victry cigar for all of our blowouts?

Second, he is practicing with guys who are more at his level. Not saying he won’t be a good NBA player, but I think he’s one of those guys who probably should have played an extra season of college ball. I think there is something to be said for practicing and playing against guys who all want desperately to make it to the big time. My guess is that nobody loafs through practice down there.

Third, the Bighorns are winning. Yeah playing against NBA players is great. But do you think it’s better for a young kid to be at the end of the NBA bench of the team that loses every game, or to be playing minutes for the D-League team with the best record in its conference? There is a lot to be said for learning how to win.

Finally, Muss wants to win as much as anyone else to redeem himself. If Whiteside was good enough to be playing NBA minutes right now, do you really think Muss would be having him ride the pine. I’m a huge proponent of earning your minutes wherever you are. Look what it did for Jeter.

I say let him continue to work and improve in the D League and then consider bring him up for the last 20 games or so, just like they do in MLB.

Finally, Muss wants to get wins as much as anybody else

Agreed SB.

I don’t see how HW not getting minutes down at Reno means that he’d be better off sitting on the bench in the NBA. It’s quite possible HW just isn’t ready to play big NBA minutes yet.

So, what's better?

5 minutes of playing time a game in the D-League, or developing chemistry with teammates and going through practices with them in the NBA?

by CloudyEyes on Dec 31, 2010 7:35 AM PST up reply actions

What's best is for Hassan Whiteside to get minutes in the NBA playing for the Kings.

Until then, it’s probably best he earns his minutes in the D-League as a way of getting to that point.

He isn't going to get his minutes in the D-League

They just had a D-League draft put someone else at the C with their 1st overall D-League pick. Hassan isn’t part of Reno’s future. That other guy is.

by CloudyEyes on Dec 31, 2010 3:54 PM PST up reply actions

Do D-League teams have a "future?"

Repsectfully, I think this would be like saying that the Rivercats would refuse to play a guy on the A’s that’s on rehab because he’s not part of the Rivercats future.

I would think that fouling has a lot to do with it.

Like 214 was saying, the D-League is there so a guy like Whiteside can develop. That’s what the D-League is there for. If Whiteside can help Reno win games now by playing more minutes, I can’t imagine why E-Muss wouldn’t play him more minutes.

Possibly

Here are Hassan’s D-league stats

His per minute stats pretty good…especially the amount of blocks he has in limited minutes. I also can’t understand why he’s not getting more minutes there.

It'd be one thing if the Kings felt that way. Until they do...

…I stand by that I believe he has to earn his minutes on the court.

Just play Whiteside, damn

This season’s already down the drain. Unless some miracle happens, it’s going to stay that way. Nothing to lose in playing rookies during a losing season. Give our future a chance to develop on court chemistry, Westphal.
