Tyreke Evans Saves the Day! Halfcourt Game Winner Lifts Kings 100-98 Victory
Tyreke Evans hit a game-winner from beyond midcourt at the buzzer to lift the Kings to a 100-98 victory over the Grizzlies. Ahem. TYREKE EVANS HIT A GAME-WINNER FROM BEYOND MIDCOURT AT THE BUZZER TO LIFT THE KINGS TO A 100-98 VICTORY OVER THE GRIZZLIES!
With the Kings up one, O.J. Mayo hit a wild runner from 20 feet to vault Memphis on top with 1.5 seconds left. The Kings had no time-outs left. DeMarcus Cousins inbounded to Evans, and Tyreke was all like ...
(Thanks to Ben Golliver aka @blazersedge for the quick video.)
This game deserves fuller analysis than the hot mess of exclamation marks and OMGs I can produce tonight. This play was only the final of Evans' incredible heroics, as the guard came up with two steals and, including the winner, seven points in final two minutes. Cousins was also fantastic, finishing with 20 points and 16 rebounds to help the Kings keep pace with a Memphis team leaning on 35 points from Zach Randolph. A personal MVP is Donte Greene, who as you can see knew the shot was going in as soon as Tyreke let it fly.
Unbelievable. Just unbelievable.

Also, semi-off topic, but the first season of Glee is currently on sale for only $15 at Target. Thus, an epic marathon has occurred over the last few days :D

Not completely (nothing will make me accept the games where we just didn’t show up at all) but it goes a hell of a long way. Games like this are why I stay a fan through the hard times :)

No joke
I went on a spending spree at Target yesterday
They have crazy deals right now
I did indeed buy the first season of Glee along with Sunny seasons 4 and 5, Mad Men seasons 1-2, Futurama’s new season and I got Tales of the Crypt seasons 3-4.
:D

Well done sir. Well done.
I’ve never seen Mad Men and feel like I should watch it… not gonna lie, I kinda love Jon Hamm. At least on 30 Rock. lol. I am now the proud owner of the first four seasons of that show and am feeling an epic marathon over my three days off this weekend :) I love the one where he has his hook hands. My favorite might be the one where Liz hallucinates him and Floyd and Dennis after having her surgery, lol. So funny.

They get the game ball but got to give major props to
Mr. Eugene Jeter and Omri as well. Daly did about as well as anyone could slowing down Z Bo tonight and Beno scored like crazy, especially in the first half and Cisco came up big time with some 3’s to keep it close. So nice to have JT back, grinning like a madman when Reke’s shot hit and while Donté didn’t do much in the game his leap to the court before the ball hit mid court was epic and wait………….what? They made a Choice? They won it as a team? Ohhhhhhhhhhh. I dig it.

So much fun watching the replay over and over
The Grizzlies fans and players that are celebrating/not celebrating.
The fan in the lower left of the screen that gives the Kings a salute and starts to gather his/her things right after Mayo’s shot – I have no idea if he/she saw Evans’ shot.
Fat Lever on his feet in celebration.
The realization that Donté Greene still had one foot out of bounds when the red light came on – he sprinted all the way out there after time had expired.

and i can hands down say this was the best moment of the season so far. holy crap, that pop sent chills down my spine. it was easily the loudest crowd reaction i’ve heard since…well…Arco 2002.
you guys deserve better than the rough times you’ve been through recently. tyreke has been going through some rough times this year himself, but hopefully he can shake off the injury and this could start the turnaround. same with cousins, who i would hate to see sent to the d-league, especially after the monster performance tonight.
seriously, a win like this could start the push to turn around a season. this kind of stuff brings teams and fans together. best of luck guys and happy new year!!!!

Was at Arco
Incredible shift of emotions. When Reke dunked it to give us the 1 point lead, the crowd was standing and chanting DEFENCE very, very loudly. We could smell blood in the water. Mayo hit the shot and it was a sickly feeling in the arena. Then when Reke drilled the halfcourt shot, it was so loud and boisterous, it reminded me of Arco back in the day.

Yeah, heard the radio replay on the ride back
and you could hear the crowd going nuts over the announcers.
One cool moment too you didn’t get on the radio was after the shot was made and fans had been cheering for awhile, they replayed the shot on the monitors in slomo. Everyone was quiet again till the shot swished and then erupted cheering again. Awesome.

To be honest, I was surprised at how full Arco was
Just because it isn’t really a marquee matchup and our record is the worst in the league. I love it, obviously, but it was definitely a bit surprising.

What I found funny
most people leave with 2 nibutes to go. This game, it was over, and everyone stayed and jumped up and down while watching 3 men watch tv.
There are some guys dumber than me, some guys worse looking, I take umbrage at the fact that there is no guy that is both.
The Kings can't lose them all
But an unforgettable win to a season already with its ups and downs.

Although a future one just might be “I call the big one Bitey”. Classic.
Try again. What episode my sig from? :D
Hungover pushups are good too. I plan to hit the gym early enough to catch SportsCenter (well, one hour of it…they play like 5 in a row lol) so I can relive the awesome of tonight again :D

I love that scene!
Apparently Harrison Ford had like wicked food poisoning or something during that day of the shoot…they had a huge elaborate swordfight planned but he basically said “fuck this, can’t I just shoot him?” and they went with it, lol.
And yes, we are well-established as awesome so my extreme Simpsons nerdiness is pretty great.

lol yeah!
Aaccording to Harrison Ford the scene was going to be some long well choreographed scene up to 15 minutes long.
Ford was sick so he suggested to Spielberg why not just shoot the guy and they all laughed and went with it.
Turns into one of the greatest scenes in movies, so great lol
I just wish they didn’t get rid of Ravenwood in Temple of Doom, OMG I hated the damsel in distress direction they took it in.

Oh I know me too
She was soooo annoying. I actually like that movie more than most people seem to though. It may or may not have to do with the scenes near the end where Harrison Ford is wearing a sleeveless shirt that I believe is also open on the chest and he’s like turning the crank thing or whatever and he’s all sweaty and kinda dirty and his arms look awesome and yeah…….lol. That was the first time I really got how my 6th grade teacher had a major crush on him. lol

I don't hate Temple of Doom

I think a lot of people really didn’t like it, but as I wasn’t even born when it came out (I don’t think………) I can’t say for sure. lol. Definitely great action though, especially the rail scene. Good stuff.
Kinda bummed they made the 4th one. I mean, it wasn’t like horrifically bad, but it was very much unnecessary. Kinda like the failed 9th season of Scrubs without the original characters. lol.

I'm still in shock
The drive back from Arco to the bay was a blur. Tyreke’s shot was insane. Cousins? He went into beast-mode tonight, attacking the rim, harassing Gasol, inhaling rebounds. He was fired up, man. DeMarcus Cousins did violence to the Memphis Grizzlies. True, he’ll continue to have ups & downs but he sure opened up a lot of eyes tonight, mine included.

It was a good game overall but the 4th quarter was surreal.
When the game is on the line & the crowd smells blood, Arco becomes a different animal. I’ve been to many NBA arenas. When the Kings are rolling, Arco is one of the league’s rowdiest, most unique spots to catch a game. No matter what the critics say, Kings fans will always have a special relationship with the team.

Cousins = stud
How long can the Kings justify not starting this kid? I feel like the “choking” incident deserved a slap on the wrist at most (I mean, really, I sorta thought it was funny and I was okay with it. It’s no worse than what Kevin Garnett does EVERY GAME). When he’s throwing up 21/16/3, don’t you pretty much have to start the kid? His power move in the last minute was unbelievable. How many post guys can make a crunch-time move like that?
Personally, I don't think he'll start again until after the All-star break.
I don’t agree with the “benching”, partially because there’s no reasonable way to end it. Switching back after the All-star break, especially depending on any trades that may go down, seems to make about as much sense as anything. Another way I could see it happening is if Cuz gets a chance to start if Dally and/or JT can’t for some reason, then doesn’t give up the spot again. Coach could then just say that DeMarcus got his shot again and showed that he’s learned his lesson, blah blah blah.

Yes, yes obviously that would be against the rules and we are all about complying with the rules. And, I know it’s going to sound kinda kooky, but to me DeMarcus will always be 19 and wearing a Kentucky uniform. He just will.
But, back to reality : ) and as long as he’s a King, I will be lurking here and I will have a small rooting interest in your team. He’s just that cool.
Oh, and the precious comment was fairly hilarious. Not sure how it was intended, but obviously my mind immediately went to Silence of the Lambs. Good movie.

DMC looks to be turning the corner
What an incredible game…I thought that we as fans were going to be heartbroken again in a game where we deserved to win. Reke saved the game and won it for us in the final 2 minutes with his great defense on three different series (two steals and inbound defense against Gay on the final play), his clutch free throw shooting and of course the half court shot, but you can’t overstate the role that DMC played tonight and you have to give credit to him for an incredible game. Besides his points and rebounds, he held his composure and played great defense against Gasol. Gasol was only 4-13 from the floor and I saw at least two of those made shots against Sam. Peaches commented many times on how DMC wasn’t pouting when the calls didn’t go his way. The way he took the ball to the hole against Randolph in the final minute was impressive and his ability to hit two clutch free throws right after he missed a pair was huge.
We are used to watching the Kings squander these opportunities on a regular basis and maybe this kind of performance will wake them up and show the team what they can be…I’m very excited for Saturdays game and the rest of the season.
I don't think it's going too far to say that this game shows why you don't fire Westphal this season.
For all the bad coaching decisions that are made (which most coaches make from time to time), for all of the perplexing rotations and lineups, the troubling player interactions, the weird statements to the media, Coach Westphal has these young men really believing in themselves. If you don’t think that’s a big deal, you weren’t paying much attention to the teams under Theus (in his second season) and Natt. These guys hate all the losing, but I guarantee you that not one of those guys thinks that the Kings are the worst team in the league, or that any remaining game isn’t winnable. For a team that’s been struggling and had it’s heart broken as much as this team has, that is quite an accomplishment.
Memphis is a good team, a better team than the Kings. They had the lead on us late. But the Kings still did everything they could to get the win, because they knew that they could if they kept fighting. As many times as those guys have gotten kicked in the crotch this season, they’re still getting back up and hanging it all out there again, not afraid of the next kick coming their way. Again, if you don’t think that’s remarkable, you need to go back and watch some games from a couple of seasons ago. That’s what it looks like when a team gives up, when they stop fighting for the win because they’d rather just lose quietly than to bust their asses and still fail. This team is still hungry, no matter how much nasty crap is heaped on their plates.
Also, these guys are really bonding. Maybe every one of them thinks that Coach Westphal is not a very good coach, but they’re still buying what he’s selling, and they’re going to each game as a team, not as a collection of players. Whatever little spats or issues may be going on behind the scenes, Westphal isn’t even close to losing this team. Even as the losses have been piling up, this locker room is strong. Case in point, Donte Greene. He’s been jerked around more than anyone this year, and no one would be shocked if he just withdrew and cut himself off emotionally from this team. But last night at the end of the game, he was shooting effing rainbows straight from his smile to hearts around the world. He got 3 minutes of playing time last night and didn’t do anything with it, but none of that mattered when his teammates that were on the floor won the game for all of them. And it’s not just Donte, of course. It’s every man on that roster. This team is truly a team, and as bad as this season has been for them, that’s really saying something. You can’t tell me that Westphal doesn’t have a great deal to do with that.
I don’t know if Paul Westphal is the right coach for this team beyond this season. In fact, I’d be pretty surprised if he makes it all the way through next season. But I’m fairly certain that this young team needs what he’s giving them for the rest of this season, even if they don’t win another game. This team has heart like I’ve never seen, and screwing with that because the young guys are having trouble executing a play at the end of the game would really be a tragedy.

Late to the party
But that was flipplin unbelievable. Great moment for sure, but more then that the Kings played an awesome game. They are actually running some offense and Beno and Cousins are starting to become the playmakers the offense needs. I prefer the Cisco Casspi combo to Greene and Tyreke has been playing with more pace and has played a few games of great D.
Great game and it was a bright spot that we can hopefully build on.
