Well...

I"m extremely depressed. Thats for sure.

Sometimes you just have to look yourself in the mirror and say....Tyreke Evans.
That just happened.

If anything that’s just more soul for our boys to take into the next game

Which is why they are underrated

Do you not know what that term means? They are better than their record.

And also

they have been w/o Kaman and Baron Davis much of the season. The Clips are better than their record.

by caseycheesecake on Dec 7, 2010 8:52 AM PST up reply actions

I dunno, probably the assists and then the points

he really needs to work on his conditioning to be able to score efficiently enough to get to 25 a game. He needs more lift to convert at a higher percentage. Either way though, have a real hard time seeing him reach that apex, hitting all three of those numbers at once.

I predict JT will never breathe through his nose.

True...

He won’t be able to handle all the minutes he would need to score 25 while shooting 40%. But I also see a sharp increase in FG% in the next 2 years.

Sadly, I have to agree

That play at the end where they couldn’t get the fast break points but got the rebound and kicked it out to him for him just to sit there (With his hand on his hip?!) for the entire shot-clock just to throw up a terrible shot? He is really starting to make me say WTF! too much lately

Agreed

This has really been the most frustrating part of the season for me. Tyreke has taken a step back and is playing worse than last year.

I expected the opposite. I had really high hopes that the jumper would improve, he would know what to expect, and we would see some growth. Instead, defenses seem to have caught up with him and are now packing the paint, daring him to shoot the jumper (which unfortunately, he has been doing).

Even as pissed as I am,

I don’t buy that. Reke when he’s healthy, in full attack mode, is awesome.

I’m pissed at the guy right now not because of his sucky shooting (which happens), but poor decision making. All those criticisms about not knowing a playbook… well, Reke seems to be a likely suspect now.

This.

by elfboy_ on Dec 6, 2010 10:34 PM PST up reply actions

Yep

He sucks right now. He’s also still the most talented player on the roster, even if that talent isn’t being tapped currently.

Oh, and he’s 21. It amazes me that guys like NEK bitch about the lack of talent on this roster, but want to get rid of the most talented young player we have when he’s in a rough stretch – to allow more playing time for the Pooh Jeters of the world.

Otis

How is Tyreke the most talented player on our roster? His shot stinks, his decision making stinks, he can only drive to his right with any consistency and he isnt our strongest defender. Ill take Cousins over Reke any day. At least he plays with some joy and passion.

I was uncool before it was cool

by Dirkula on Dec 7, 2010 8:03 AM PST up reply actions

Yes, all that is true for EIGHTEEN games in his second season

He’s also the guy that won the ROY last year. Should I ignore the entirety of last season and view that as an aberration in lieu of the small sample of games this season?

Here’s my take on Tyreke – he’s lost right now. I think he and the team felt he was going to need to add a consistent outside shot to his repertoire to improve himself in the long term. And that change hasn’t really stuck at this point – he’s torn right now between forcing the jumper to keep the defenses honest and doing what he knows he does best (but is more predictable).

And I damn sure think he’s dealing with injuries to the foot and ankle area that are hindering him a bit.

So yes, I think he’s still the most talented player on the team, and I don’t think it’s all that close.

I feel you

on the lost part. I think he is struggling with expanding his IQ and his offensive repertoire. I keep hearing he is injured yet he seems to still play with a quickness and explosion that most others don’t posses. Why doesn’t he sit and heal if the injuries are that bad? I would assume he doesn’t want to be playing injured especially if this is the result.

Positives

-The only person stopping Demarcus Cousins on the block is Demarcus Cousins. You watch him play and see that all he needs to do really is slow down. Its only a matter of WHEN not IF he averages 20/10 in this league

-Pooh showed what a change of pace guard really looks like

-Overall, I’m not too dissatisfied with the coaching in this game. It seems like Westphal has no idea who will do what on a game to game basis. But if Demarcus is showing what he’s gonna do for the rest of the season, thats one thing to build off of. Rotations were pretty decent today.

There are flashes of talent

This isn’t the 2009 team which was just dead from beginning to end. This team has talent. Its just that seemingly nobody has put two good games together in a row.

Tyreke has been up and down, Beno has been up and down, the Donte/Omri carousel continues, Landry has been up and down, Demarcus might finally be getting it after a learning curve, JT has been up and down….

I mean from top to bottom, young guys to veterans, we have no idea what we will get from anybody

by ziggie on Dec 6, 2010 10:46 PM PST up reply actions

If Big Cuz

was in better shape, he’d get more lift around the basket and finish those moves. He needs to bring his body fat down like Roy Hibbert did, and he is going to be a major star.

I kind of disagree he needs to slow down, with the exception of the tendency to travel. He plays at a smart pace. He reads the defense, then attacks. When he hesitates too much with his post moves, thats how he gets picked. Overall he has done better job of protecting the ball of late. I like the way he is coming along. He belongs in the starting lineup and don’t ever expect him to relinquish that spot. I just want to see him shed about 10-15 pounds of body fat without losing any muscle. Then he is going to be terrific.

I predict JT puts up 7 and 5 this year - Aug '10. (Current: 6.0 Pts 5 Rebs)

by bench_blob on Dec 6, 2010 10:50 PM PST up reply actions

He does get himself out of control at times because he's taking it to the basket too quickly

You can still be quick and quicker than your defender without losing your body control.

Rather than all those 15-18 foot drives, i’d rather see him repost. I think the only time he should be getting the basket that far from the rim, is when we run the offense thru him in the high post. Then he should pass or take the midrange jumper more often then he drives to the rim.

Agreed

Huge Positive—We ran the offense through Demarcus (rather than just letting Tyreke pound the ball at the top of the key).

Huge Positive—We used back picks, and we were getting Demarcus the ball down low (as opposed to 15 feet from the basket)

Huge Positive—Demarcus was taking good shots and finding teammates.

I don’t even care that he missed a few shots in close. They were good shots. Missing good shots is way better than taking bad ones. This was actually a big step forward in my book, and I think PW deserves some credit for making some subtle but effective changes.

Tyreke

won me over last year with his amazing plays, but I honestly cant say I have seen an ounce of growth in his game, or in his decision making.
I think that is where this frustration with him comes from with him is we were all expecting him to take a step or two forward and frankly he has taken several steps back. Its nerve wrecking to watch him at the top of the key anymore. Just boils you with frustration to watch DMC fight for position and Reke just stands there and pounds the ball, then takes a bad shot or turns it over.
Just incredibly frustrated with him this year. Dont think we trade him unless its for a great young point guard like Russel Westbrook, but we know thats no happening!

Not a Kings expert at all.

But I’m wondering a bit about the Tyreke Evans ecosystem. First he can’t thrive with Kevin Martin, no one’s idea of a domineering teammate, whatever else you might think of him. Now he can’t coexist with: Cousins, Landry, Thompson, because his game and theirs don’t mesh. But two of those guys are classic post players. One of them is a textbook kind of SG in many ways. One is a mobile athletic big. So, who CAN he co-exist with?

Tyreke is going to have to adjust Xiane

That’s what it is going to come down to. Like someone said, last year the Kings needed him to do everything. This year he needs to learn to trust his teammates and he hasn’t been doing that during some stretches in games. That hurts the team and he needs to realize that and adjust accordingly.

Tyreke is an special talent but he needs to grow up as a player and person, just like all these young guys. What happened last year was no fluke and he will eventually get it right.

Yes, it will

But I bet it’s hard letting go. He NEEDS to learn that and then, and only then, he’ll take that next step. I’m not worried about the jumpshot, or the fading away, or the bad defense as much as the mental aspect of the game. It’s also true that he hasn’t shown a great ball IQ. As a 21-22 year old kid who has already had success in the league, he’s just going to have to adjust, learn, and grow. Kings fans are looking forward to that. I know you can differentiate who knows this and who doesn’t.

I agree with this

He HAS to adjust. This is a league that feasts on one’s mistakes, and it’s becoming more and more evident, as Cousins begins to become more consistent in the post, that Evans will have to learn when to defer and when not to.

Each passing game shows me Tyreke needs to learn how to find Cuz in the P&R

Good things can happen. He’s been finding Landry lately a few times on it, which is great; but Cuz can make better decisions with the ball and find players if he can’t get a shot off, while Landry just has tunnel vision when he has the ball.

Won't happen, as much as Houston loves Landry.

Martin has his flaws, but he’s been very good for Houston, and management loves him.

Aaron Brooks might be available, though. Or Jermaine Taylor, who might really thrive with playing time. He can score the ball from the SG spot. Don’t let lack of pedigree fool you, think of Matthews in PDX.

which leads me to believe he was going away whether it had anything to do with Tyreke or not. This is something that needs to be kept in mind when putting on our hindsight glasses.

Stylistically, I will live with this game from Tyreke every day

Maybe a few less jumpers off the dribble. But its clear right now he isn’t able to finish at the rim like he usually can and just lacks explosiveness to get there in the first place. It doesn’t help that our “shooters” like Beno and Donte bricked everything they threw up today.

Otherwise, Tyreke did what he was supposed to. He’s a second year player suffering from injuries and with four or five guys in the lane because nobody on this team can shoot the ball. Some mental mistakes, but if Reke NEEDS to play this way. He is our star.

I'm saying stylistically

Tyreke played the way I’d expect him to play. Obviously I’d much rather have him hit his shots and make better decisions with the ball and play better defense. Assists were down because our shooting was god-awful. But beyond that, do you really want Tyreke to stop shooting and attacking?

What did I do to Martin?

I cut him a ton of slack, but his whining about the Arco fans to get traded and his half-hearted play with apparently the same goal in mind pushed me over the edge.

The Kings built their reputation with crisp passing and team play, and Tyreke Evans is the antithesis of that. The Kings are not even fun to watch. Pooh Jeter and Omri changed that a bit tonight, and I guess I am going to have to be content with 15 minutes of Pooh Jeter a night to see team ball and energy and enthusiasm.

Tonight only Casspi of course had a good night, and maybe Cousins, Jeter and Sammy played decently well. Two of those guys are bench players (this week).

Even if the Kings won this game, they wouldn’t have deserved it. The Clippers didn’t deserve the win either, it was just a lazy boring game for 3 quarters from both teams until they decided to play basketball.

I did like what I saw from Casspi (I LOVE that he is so reliable finishing on fast breaks) and Cousins, and Pooh. I think Cousins fits as a starter much better esp. fouling-wise. As for Pooh, I like him as the energy off the bench, but I’m a little worried that he will be starting the next game.

Don't know what to make of Tyreke anymore..

He is such a ball stopper. I felt more comfortable with the offense going through DMC because he would make a quick move or pass, never stagnating the offense. He still has an ugly jumper and doesn’t know how to run a picknroll effectively.

I also hate how he doesn’t know how to fight through a screen. Going under the screen when you’re already playing 5 feet off Gordon is retarded because it gave him a wide open look at a 3 everytime.

Sure, he has raw talent but is he coachable? He has so many bad habits to fix and I don’t know if he’s got the right people in his ear to prompt the necessary changes.

I hope we can get Kyrie Irving in the next draft.

At the time I was too young to know that, but I know it now. This is easy in comparison.

"It really was amazing to see the difference in this team when Pooh was out there moving the ball. Crisp passing, set plays, movement, and Oh yeah, SMILES & PASSION exhibited by the other players on the floor."

Had the Kings shown any effort

before the 4th quarter, the game would have been a blowout. Instead, they decided to be lazy, not get back on defense, leave their man across court anytime Griffin had the ball, settle for bad shots, etc… I agree the last quarter was very encouraging, along with some individual performances (Omri, DMC, Pooh) but overall I wasn’t impressed with the game. Especially, because it could have been an easy blowout.

Keep Jason Thompson out of the damn fruit salad!

Neither here nor there but

I thought they played a lot better in the Dallas games.

I predict JT will never breathe through his nose.

If they had shot the 3 in the Clippers game as well as they did against Dallas I would agree

but the reality is that we are a horrible 3pt shooting team, and we were undeniably lucky shooting 3’s against Dallas. If we had shot our normal percentage or Kidd didn’t go 1-9 from 3pt range we would never have been close against Dallas.

We lost the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th quarters, scored 8 pts in the last 7 minutes of the game. And, the 3rd and 4th quarter offense carried over to the 1st & 2nd quarter of the Clippers game. We were outscored 51-48 in the last 2 quarters against Dallas and 50-44 in the first 2 quarters against the Clippers. And, that 101-92 which is worse than our seasonal average per game of 101-96.
