Yeah

Missed the game, and my wife turned off the recorder to watch the news, so the first thing I saw when I turned the tube on was Martin on the postgame show. That alone told me they had won.

Had to record the second Comcast airing which came after the college basketball game. Did manage to catch the first half and saw that Beno was on fire. Will have to catch up during the break.

Nice to see them put away another crappy foe on the road. Maybe 30 wins is possible after all.

you're right

Grant does provide an endless stream of material

by Grasul on Feb 10, 2010 7:22 PM PST up reply actions

I'll put it this way

seeing people endlessly comment about how they hate “Peaches” is as lame as seeing people endlessly comment about how they want to trade Kevin Martin. It’s tired and old.

by Pollard4LIfe on Feb 10, 2010 7:23 PM PST up reply actions

When Grant stops making himself the story

I imagine him being a topic of discourse will die down. When less than a week ago he ripped one of the best players on the team, the statute of limitations for calling him on it isn’t quite up yet.

Relax, it will go away if he wants it to go away. I imagine he actually enjoys it though.

If he doesn't create consternation he isn't well known Gras.

Grant Napear because he’s the TV PBP is known worldwide as the TV voice of the Kings. Those of us who have lived in Sac for long enough to know that there is the douchebag redhead ass kisser doing PBP and the asshole know it all New York piss ant fuck who does the radio show.

I’m sorry if I get annoyed that he takes pot-shots at Kevin Martin at a pivotal time for the franchise.

I disagree

it’s not hard to figure out why. He’s right there on the cusp of star and merely very good. but he has been the star the last three years. because of the investment that people have had in him as “the future of the franchise” there’s bound to be some backlash when it turns out that he might not be that future.

by Lotusprime on Feb 10, 2010 7:30 PM PST up reply actions

The future of the franchise?

I wouldn’t have anoited him that and Kevin Martin is my favorite player. (I do think it is a backlash from last season when fans think he quit on the team with his ankle.)

you wouldn't annoint him that

but that’s probably because you’re somewhat rational, that’s what we’ve been fed here in town for the last three years though. I bet half of the backlash is the fact that Kev isn’t ever going to be the player that a lot of people thought he was going to be.

Do you think the Pistons being bottom-tier team had something to do with the victory? And, wouldn’t the Kings beat every team they can every night they could if they had a choice on doing so?

Excuse me?

There have been people talking shit about Kevin Martin all week long, and you mean that me pointing out that the Pistons, a 18 win team, didn’t have something to do with the victory? Especially since the last 2 months have seen a string of the league’s best teams and the Kings have lost in every conceivable fashion over that time frame.

Pissing on the parade? Fuck off.

I hope you're being facetious

It’s pretty much the definition of anti-Semitic. And in bad taste.

by Zahid on Feb 10, 2010 9:16 PM PST up reply actions

First off

I know what Anti-Semitism is. I don’t need it defined for me. Second, I know the difference between a joke and anti-semitic feeling. Learn it. Live it.. Love it. I’m not obligated to jump for joy because Omri Casspi is Jewish/Israeli. If you’re Jewish, and/or Israeli, good for you. But there are plenty of Jewish people on this site, and I’m sure many of them can see the joke if they think about it. I’ll do you a favor and tell you what it is: Omri didn’t have an assist tonight.

by pookeyguru on Feb 10, 2010 9:22 PM PST up reply actions

Wow ... talk about missing the point

I can’t speak for the Jews on this board any more than you can (I’m neither Jewish, nor “jumping for joy because Omri is”), but my guess is a) yes, they can see the joke (it’s not like it was so subtle that only you got it) and b) they would tend to believe it reflects a stereotype about Jews that they’d rather not hear yet again.

I consulted messrs. Merriam and Webster about anti-Semitism, and they define the word as “hostility or discrimination” toward Jews. Under that definition, I can see your point that, by definition, a joke cannot be anti-Semitic.

But here’s my problem with the comment: Guess who else didn’t have an assist tonight? That’s right, Jon Brockman. Substitute his name and religious faith into Rock’s comment, and think about whether Rock would have bothered to make the same joke about Brockman as he did about Casspi. If you think he would have, then you’re right, the joke is harmless (and not even really a joke); it’s just a stupid way of saying Brockman didn’t have an assist.

But I don’t think this comment would have been made about Brockman. The comment was made specifically to play on a stereotype about Jews, which is offensive regardless of whether it’s technically anti-Semitism. Rudeness is rudeness, and no attempt to wave the tired flag of “don’t be so politically correct” will change that.

True

I talk a lot of shit about how Kevin is back and all that, but that’s just emotions coming out after all the trash talking. These 2 wins have been team wins. Yes, Reke and Kevin, the best players on the team, stepped up, but the other guys also did their jobs. Everyone is slowly settling in their roles.

Not everyone is going to be a star but they can all show they’re good players. Omri, Donte, Jt, Spencer, Beno, Noce, and Ime all played well when they needed to. Maybe they weren’t spectacular, but they did their job and that’s why the Kings just won 2 games on the road i na row.

I get that

But they also don’t win if the other guys don’t step up. They all did their job and Reke’s job just happens to be being the star of the team and destroy the Knicks defense. If it wasn’t for Omri beinghot in the 1st last night, or Donte having some good plays, or JT and Brockman grabbing some key rebounds, Reke wouldn’t get the chance to do his thing.

I don't think so. If only because Cisco will be brought back very slowly and he may not be back for another couple weeks.

I have a feeling he won’t come back until everyone is satisfied that he can contribute 100% of the time he’s on the court. Cisco had a serious injury. The Kings got lucky in that sense because it’s allowed them to use Donte, Omri, and even Reke in many different looks they might not have otherwise been able to do with Cisco.

I think it's good in small doses.

I’m sure I’ll miss it after a while. I’m trying to add more variety per 49er16’s suggestion. The long layoff between wins has given me time to find new ones. Although I’d prefer to have less time to find new ones given the choice.

Also around the NBA

Darren Collison led the Hornets to a victory over the Celtics with a near triple double: 25 points, 9 assists, 10 turnovers.

Miami destroys Atlanta behind 19 and 11 with 2 blocks from Jermaine O’Neal.

Andre Iguodala plays horribly against the Raptors and the Sixers lose by 11 to Bosh.

Charlotte wins a 2nd straight game off a game winner as Corey Brewer assists Nazr Mohammed for the game winning dunk.

Tyrus Thomas, hopefully soon to be King, has 16 points (7-12), 6 boards, 4 assists, 2 steals and a block off the bench, but the Bulls still lose to the Magic by 20. Please get TT for nothing, please get TT for nothing.

Portland continues to amaze as they keep winning even with all the injuries. This time over Phoenix, with 20+ points each from Miller, Blake (12 assists) and Aldridge.

Redacted end Utah’s 9 game winning streak without Kobe and Bynum, led by Ron Artest’s 3 points on 1-7 shooting, 2 boards, 3 assists in 37 minutes.

Meanwhile Stephen Curry is on 1st rookie triple double this season watch against the Clippers. 36 points, 9 boards, 11 assists. Warriors by 36, 3:00 to go.

Nice Job Kings

Sac-Town is headed the right direction with Tyreke Evans and Omri Casspi. Because I love Grant Napear’s play-by-play, I do watch the Kings on atdhe.net whenever I can. The Pistons are horrendous these days but I take nothing away from Sacramento. The already ultra-competitive Western Conference has not heard the last of the Kings. They will not make the postseason but they will play the spoiler for several contenders.
