Player identities revealed after the jump.  But if you look before voting you're a cheater and people won't like you very much.

Star-divide

Player A is our very own Tyreke Evans.

Player B is Jason Kidd, who is reportedly going to be replacing Bryant in the All-Star Game.

My gut reaction was that the NBA was going with a name that casual fans would recognize.  I feel like they're blowing an opportunity to give additional exposure to an up-and-coming star.  I even went so far as to say that Kidd in the All-Star Game was as bad as McGrady and Iverson.  The stats, however, made a compelling case, and I was curious how blind voting would turn out.

I agree- should have been Ellis.

The Sacramento Convergence concept offers Sacramento, the Central Valley, and the State a solution to feasibly construct a new multi-use Entertainment and Sports Complex.

by jjham15 on Feb 11, 2010 3:19 PM PST up reply actions

I disagree

1) He’s injured so it probably wouldn’t be a good idea anyway.
2) Monta and Tyreke have almost identical stats. However, Monta gets the Nelly stat boost and takes 6 more shots a game than Tyreke. They shoot at the same percentage. If Tyreke took the extra six shots he’d have the same number of points as Monta.
3) Tyreke’s on the better team

I figured out Player A pretty easily. A glance at FG% and 3P% pretty much gives it away. Good perspective though.

by Exhibit G on Feb 11, 2010 3:16 PM PST up reply actions

I heard about Kidd on the radio

So I figured that is who it was. And Tyreke was obvious with the 26.1 3P%, yet his FG% isn’t pulled down by it much since he’s ridiculous at the rim.

Bigger reason to me in my opinion as to why Kidd was selected is because he plays for Dallas. Dallas is hosting.

Tyreke deserved to go more, but he’ll be an All-Star for years. I’m not too worried about it.

Being completely unbiased...

I voted player B. A slight advantage to player A in terms of FG%, but it’s quite clear that player A has a MUCH higher usage rate than B, though. What got it for me was the 3pt% and assists (especially the a/t ratio). Player B clearly led in those categories and seemed to be more of a complete player than Player A, though, Player A does have a better mid-range/close range game.

Now, before this board totally flames me over this. In no way am I bashing Evans. I’m just letting the stats given speak for itself.

The only reason he’s there is because the event is in Dallas. Tyreke will have plenty of AS appearances before his career is up though so no need to stress about year one.

This is absurd

Kidd is better at every category, except FG%. If you multiply the assists by 2 (as every assist leads to at least 2 points) and add the amount you get to the points, it’s practically even. The bias here is skyrocketing.

And don’t forget that Kidd is leading a West contender while Evans is leading a reeling squad, to put it nicely. Tyreke will be an all-star in the future, don’t waste your time and effort on fighting this war. Derrick Rose wasn’t an all-star last year either.

I think the real question is if Kidd is having a All-Star year this year..not what he has done in the past. What about this year? IMO its questionable. His 9 assists are impressive.

Think about this though… I find it interesting that his name had not really ever come up in previous discussions about replacements. When had anyone mentioned Kidd as a replacment? When CP3 got hurt, the players under discussion were Billups, Evans, Ellis and Aaron Brooks. I even saw OJ Mayo mentioned in some articles. I would be fine with any of those guys.

My point is that if Kidd was having such a great “all-star caliber” year, then why had he not been mentioned before? If I’m wrong please tell me. It just seems straight out of left field to throw Kidd in the game, since he is from Dallas. Odd? Yes.

Sometimes you just have to look yourself in the mirror and say....Tyreke Evans.
That just happened.
