Ah, the silver lining.

And Beno and Landry had good games tonight.

An aside: When they showed Landry in an interview, he was talking about the other Kings players. He referred to guys talking in “our” locker room. He could have just as well said “the” locker room. I thought that was very telling that he has really bonded with the team already.

Grumble...

Am I the only one that wants to see the Kings actually try to win games instead of “teaching the young guys” every night? Hawes on the bench a lot and Noce a no show so what we can give McGuire a look or teach Casspi how to play defense?

I hope we get a consistent lineup and play this upcoming home stand to win.

Hard to put Hawes in when he has 5 fouls in his first 10 minutes

And I was surprised to see McGuire come in during a pretty pivotal part of the game. I’ll definitely agree with you re: Casspi’s defense though. They should focus on that a while so he can become a consistent presence in the lineup.

Why won't that stupid StR let me into their crappy club for jerks?

by TheJust on Feb 21, 2010 9:36 PM PST up reply actions

McGuire played quite well

Until he doesn’t start taking shots (a la Nocioni, for example) I don’t mind if Coach W plays him as a defender. He rebounded really well.

Other than not keeping the Suns off the offensive glass in the second half; the defense wasn't bad.

Now if the Baby Royals could figure out a way to get their offense chugging while the other team goes to zone, we’d really be in business.

Just got home from the game

the 1st half was great, the 2nd not so much. Still a fun time tho!

I thought it was pretty apparent tonight: We’ll only go as far as our big men will take us. Landry looked pretty good and JT was impressive with his high arcing jumper in the first half, but there wasn’t much besides that.

Reke looked out of his normal smooth flow tonight, but I speedster like Nash will do that to you.

Donte played a hell of a game and his shot looked good from behind the arc.

Casspi had a TON of supporters there. IDK if they showed it on TV, but a ton of fans in the upper deck were cheering for him. It must make it a lot easier on him knowing he has all the support on the road.

So that’s it…just a few things I took away from the game. I would’ve loved to see a win, but there’s always next year in Phoenix.

GO KINGS!

Not really.

They’re both offensive-rebound oriented. And neither can get the ball in the post, back to the basket and put the ball in. They would look fantastic in an uptempo system together, but in the halfcourt game I don’t see them meshing at a “beastly” level. They’ll do well, but they won’t be up there.

I was just thinking they would compliment eachother well. Noah is the bruising defensive guy with not much range outside 6 feet or so and Landry is more of an offensive force. I think our problem is that all our bigs just hang outside of the paint too much.

Haven't looked at his stats in the last couple months

is it really that high? Interesting… drb% is the a function of just team rebounds or total rebounds? And how good a rebounding team is Chicago really? There’s alot of factors, I wasn’t saying he was solely an offensive rebounder, but he is more geared in that direction, no? Correct me if I’m wrong.

chicago is a good rebounding team. noah has bulked up a little so he holds his

ground better than he did last year. he is geared for offensive rebounds mostly because thats how he gets his offense. but he has become a very good defensive rebounder.

Dong!

I’ve never been a believer in having all your stars either in the frontcourt or the backcourt. I think a backcourt with one dominate scorer, works better with a complementory player who plays defense and hit his 3’s at a high percentage.

Parker/Duncan, Nash/Amare, Roy/Oden, Kobe/Gasol

Turner to me is just a younger Martin, and I’d like to keep our option to move Evans to the SG open. I’d rather see us get the biggest baddest big in the draft. If we’re going to spend what little money we have after the next CBA on stars, I’d rather they weren’t both in the backcourt when a mid range role player could do just as well.

Turner

is the 2nd best player in the draft at this moment, in my opinion. Now, a lot can change between now and the draft. But Turner could be an all star backcourt man, and you don’t pass that up just because you don’t want all of your stars in the backcourt. One thing is for sure, and that is that we are not yet at a point to be drafting for need over the best talent.

We have a draft pick and cap room. Draft the best player available, and then go use the cap space.

BPA is just as subjective as Player of Need.

As you say ‘we aren’t at the point to be drafting for need’, but at this point in time is anyone a sure BPA, maybe Wall but Turner? Still, I’ll go old school on talent. If there’s a potential star big available you take the Big because they don’t come around very often.

We’ve had and Have a potential star in the back court, but it was when we had a star at the PF and Center that we had the most success.

BPA is not as subjective as player of need. With Player of Need, you are categorically ruling out a subset because you don’t need a certain position and making a judgement on the rest. BPA, by definition looks at the entire set and makes a judgement.

What GP gets the big money for is making a pre-draft judgement on the careers these kids are going to have. If you do that, and you believe there’s a 10 time All-Star (Wall), a 3 time Al-Star (Turner), and a bunch of NBA average big guys, I’m sorry but in our situation, I’m going Wall, Turner on my draft board.

You can try to make the case NBA GM’s don’t know what they’re doing and a dartboard would be almost as good, and given the history of the draft, you have a case, but given Petrie’s history of drafting, he’s starting to build a pretty solid resume he’s a better than average drafter. In other words, his evaluation of player’s careers are probably more accurate than his peers.

What we've got here is, failure to communicate. Some men you just can't reach.

And I mean this in all seriousness

You never “fully recover” from a knee injury. Even in situations where your knee recovers 100%, you’ve lost that bit of faith, or self-belief, or youthful ignorant bliss that you can never get back. Even if your knee is healthy, you’re still thinking about it breaking, and the mental and physical anguish it took to bring you back to your current point, when really all you need to be thinking about while playing basketball is the basketball. You should trust your body to do what you want and not give out, and when you lose that trust it’s usually gone forever.

Now that Kmart is gone shouldn't the King think about a true PG to play along side?

Otherwise, why did they get rid of Martin? Obviously this would happen in the offseason. And I don’t think Landry is going to be an all-star. He’s solid, but doesn’t address Kings need for interior D and defensive boards. I’m still not sure why they got rid of Martin.

Donte is our 2

I was really really happy to see him get those minutes tonight. Does anyone remember back in December when the kid was playing perimiter D on LeBron and Kobe? Go back and take a look at those Laker games in particular and you’re gonna see Kobe passing up shots. If Donte doesn’t foul out on New Years Day, Kings win that game.

At 6’11" Buckets can’t be shot over by a 2 guard, and he has the quickness foot speed to stay in front of them. He has maybe the shortest leash on the team right now, because his court sense still tends to go out the window when he hits a couple shots. And that short leash is a good thing. But seriously, the guy’s ceiling is ridiculous.

I would love to see him start the rest of the year at 2. Cisco is at his best off the bench even at 100% healthy, and that gives you a 5 man rotation at the 1,2,3 with Beno joining Cisco of the bench. Yeah, I know there are gonna be nights when he craps the bed, but 25-30 mins a night for him seems pretty neccessary at this point (if you think like I do that he is part of our core future).

Donte is a multi-positional player.

What position he plays is unimportant. It’s who he plays, and how he performs, that’s important IMO.

No mistakes in the tango, Donna. Not like life. Simple. That's what makes the tango so great. If you make a mistake, and get all tangled up, you just tango on.....

I'm not sure Donald Sterling is a human being. He had to have been manufactured by someone, possibly David Stern, so that one team could solely just make profit for the NBA while doing nothing good for themselves. -- Aykis 16

Your first comment shark?

I’m impressed, but if you’re going to be articulate you will throw off the system.
Welcome aboard…
by the way we support group think here so you hate Napear, Martin is soft, Reke is sarcastically refered to as NaPG, and many more that you’ll soon think of as your own. Just kidding.
Post away.

There are some guys smarter than me, some guys better looking, I take comfort in the fact that there is no guy that is both.

I remember Donte playing D on LeBron and Kobe

Donte has become one of my favorite players. He is so versatile.

To be the best, you have to do your best. Otherwise, you are only second-rate.

It has to be more than that though.

That’s what people don’t always see.

And I mean that it's a 2 end game

There are 2 ends to the game of basketball with only 5 guys on it. That means each guy has to be able to do alot on each end for his team to win. That’s easier said than done. Donte, for what he is and isn’t, has shown a great deal of improvement that will likely ensure he gets another contract beyond this one. At some point, though, he simply needs to be consistent on a night in/night out basis. Easier said than done when he’s only 22 though.

And that is the thing that is so amazing about him...

How many guys can play the 2, 3, 4, or 5 position? I agree that he need to work on his consistency.

Good comment

if Donte’s going to play 2 consistently, he has to spend all summer getting up his 1000 spot up jump shots and then endless dribbling and passing drills. He is immensely talented, but for me, he’s a non-ball handling 3 right now, not a 2, that you put on the best offensive wing of the opposition, regardless of position.

My only issue with him playing 2 is he doesn’t move the ball or have the natural instincts that guys who have played guard their whole life have.

What we've got here is, failure to communicate. Some men you just can't reach.

I think he's best off the bench playing the reserve role and playing a lot of minutes with Beno.

You can mix & match him that way on the defensive matchup causing you trouble and what not.
