Gah sorry about the Preview
Here’s High Tops Scouting Report.
Do the Kings need to leave the country to win #17?
The Raptors are in 5th place in the Eastern Conference with a record of 27-23, just 4 games above .500, but they seem to be picking up speed like a snowball rolling down hill. Since Jan. 1st, they’ve had a record of 11-5, and are 7-1 at home with wins over SAS, DAL, LAL, & MIA with BOS their only loss. And, they’ve done it in spite of injuries to Calderon, Turkoglu, and DeRosen.
Hedo took an elbow to the eye, and sustained a small fracture of the orbital bone under his right eye in the Jan. 31st game against IND. Rookie DeMar DeRozan has been sidelined with an ankle sprain since Jan 24th. And Jose Calderon, who missed 4 weeks from the middle of December to the 1st week of January with a hip injury, underwent diagnostic testing on the ankle he sprained against the Pacers on Tuesday night. All three practiced this week, and may be available to play Sunday. DeRozan insists he’s ready to compete in the All-Star Dunk contest, and Hedo says he’s going to play without a protective mask, against the advice of the doctors and training staff.
Since his hip injury, Jose Calderon hasn’t been back in the starting lineup, losing that spot to Jarrett Jack. Jack the 6’3" 4th year pro has started 28 of 50 games this season, and in his last 10 games has averaged 12.6 ppg, 4.8 apg, 2.8 rpg on .600 FG% and .478 3P%. Sonny Weems a 6’6" 203lb 1st year pro will start at SG if DeRosen isn’t available. Weems has similar numbers to DeRosen, but averages 2 ppg less and hasn’t hit any 3pt attempts the entire season.
While the Kings leading scorers are at the guard position, Toronto’s leading scorers are in the frontcourt. Chris Bosh who leads the team in scoring is averaging 25.5 ppg, 12.7 rpg, 3.2apg, and 1 bpg on .513 FG% and .810 FT%, but has only 15 3pt attempts for the season. Hedo the point forward, should be familiar to everyone from his Kings days, is having an off year averaging 9.4 pts, 5.0 rbs & 3.6 asts on .306 FG% and .295 3P%. Andrea Bargnani who starts at Center is similar to Spencer in many ways. Both are around 7 foot and 250lb, are offensive oriented and don’t put up big rebounding numbers. Bargnani is averaging 19.7 ppg, 5.5 rpg, and 1.5 bpg on .503 FG% and .457 3P%. The main difference between Andrea and Spence is that Bargnani is playing 35.2 mpg and getting 15 FGA’s per game, which is 10 more minutes and 5.5 FGA’s then Hawes.
JT will be back with the team, and hopefully so will the Kevin Martin that we have come to expect. The big question is "Will JT start or has Donte’s performance against Amare earned him the job against Bosh"? Westphal rested Tyreke & Kevin in the end to the Suns game, so they should be ready to Reke Havoc no matter whom Toronto plays in their backcourt. And, I really like the way Omri is playing, especially his attack the basket offense and his rebounding. Plus his aggressive style could hamper Hedo who hasn’t completely healed from his eye injury. But, as it has so many times recently, this game will come down to the match up at PF.
Toronto is extremely tough at home, and has beaten some of the best teams in the Western Conference, so it could be tough sledding up north. But stranger things have happened in the NBA this year.
Scouting Report Game Keys:
Toronto doesn’t have a strong interior offensive game. Their frontcourt takes more shots outside of 10 ft then inside. And of the 14 baskets they average at the rim, 8 of them are assisted, meaning that don’t have great post up players. I like Hawes and Greene starting against Bargnani & Bosh, and I think that they can play them straight up. Double-teaming in the post is only going to free up the Raptors 3pt shooter and that would be a disaster. And, I like JT coming off the bench backing up Spencer, at least in this his 1st game back and because he’ll have only had one practice.
With Donte and Spencer hitting the 3, I think they will free up the paint for Reke to get to the rim, and Martin to get into the paint. Martin had success against the Sun’s getting inside the FT Line for some short jumpers, and I’d rather see more of that than more missed 3’s. The ‘and 1’ is more Kevin’s game, and if he’s to get his game back he needs to start there.
This is the game for Omri to prove that he’s the next Peja / Hedo. He needs to get into Hedo’s chest and annoy him like no one but Noc can. And, he needs to rebound, like the ball was a bowl of hot Hummus about to hit the floor. With the Raptor’s taking a lot of long jumpers, the Kings need to look for long rebounds and seal off the Raptors big on every shot attempt.
This won’t be an easy game, especially because the game will be played at 9am Pacific Time, which is when most of the Kings are usually getting up for practice. If Donte can play Bosh as well as he did Amare, the Kings have a chance. But, realistically, I’ve got to go with Toronto for the win, but the game is going to be a shoot out so anyone could get hot, maybe even the Kings. Raptors by 5. Go Kings.

I'm pretty sure if Beno kicked it out to Noc

So this is what Kings' games are gonna be like?
I love watching the entire team having a pretty good game. It’s so much nicer than hoping that Reke or Kevin’s 30 points are gonna be enough to carry us

Tyreke only has 6 shots
Why?

Because he's letting his teammates get into the game
He’s got 9 assists and would probably have 12 or 13 with a few more makes

They are parking a big in the paint to take away his drive
he’s doing the right thing, we’ve just gone away from him too much, he needs to touch the ball more.
he WAS taking it strong to the hoop 1st half
2nd….not so much
but WHY!?
I hope Reke takes over at the end
and Bosh realizes it’s meant to be in Sacramento.

What a disappointing end to a great game
They need to just give it to Tyreke from here on out…7 FG attempts is too few for him.
They're packing the paint
