Tyreke and.........
I was thinking about the King's moving forward and what moves the Kings will need to make to contend again. Tyreke and Beno together in the back-court has been awesome offensively every time they have started together. That being said, I still don't think your a contender with this as your back-court of the future (obviously). I love Beno's game though, and he really knows how to run a team. He is the master of the pick and roll and really an above average offensive player at his position. His defense is poor and he usually is the target to attack on defense. One of our biggest problems is guards penetrating, which totally breaks down your defense. This is why I don't think that the back-court of him and Tyreke is the future. Beno's contract is hefty, but for his production he is only slightly overpaid if he came off the bench in the future. A back-court of Beno and Cisco off the bench would be formidable. That being said, I started to wonder who would be the ideal back-court mate for Tyreke in the future. I wanted to get everyone's opinion on who they think would fit the best with Tyreke in the back-court that is in the NBA right now (nobody from the upcoming draft). Also, what we would have to do to get that person. I really like Joe Johnson and Eric Gordon as potential combination with Tyreke (guys that can shoot and play D). Who do you think would fit best with him??

Im gonna
let Beno play it out, for now… He’s not that bad, and paired with Reke his numbers are actually quite good. 4th best FG% for a PG this season. I’m thinking we keep Beno where he is, and go for broke with a Stud Big Man.
And he really
likes playing with Tyreke. Not everyone you ask is gonna want to share backcourt time with a guard who dominates the ball like Tyreke does, especially not a PG. But so far I think they are a decent duo. Just look the numbers they put up last night!
I agree
they are really good together offensively. Toronto is a poor team to demonstrate how they are as a defensive duo. Jack and Derozan aren’t guys that can dominate offensively. Toronto gets there scoring from the 3,4, and 5 spots. Beno and Tyreke are perfect together offensively, but most teams have a dominant score at the 1 or 2 and will attack Beno repeatedly, like Portlad did. I used to want to get rid of Beno because of his contract, but now I think his offense is to valuable to get rid of. He puts up points efficiently as anyone that plays his position, but he has to because he gives up just as much as he gets.
well...
I agree that he isnt the greatest defender on the team, and he’s more of an offensive player. If your main concern is Beno is always going to get beat off the dribble, you could solve this problem by signing a solid big man who can play help defensive right and block shots right? I mean its not a fix everytime, but that combined with his offense could be reason to keep him in the starting lineup. no?
Definatly need someone to protect the rim
Like dare I say Emeka. When the Big comes over to help on Beno’s man though it leaves his man open and the defense is left shuffling. I still want Beno to play around 24-30min in the future, I just don’t know if he can be on the floor at the end of the game when we are on defense. I had the same questions when Martin occupied the 2. It’s a lot to ask at the end of the game that Tyreke carry us on offense at the end of the game, as well as guarding the best perimiter player at the end.
i beleive the dude's post was asking..
who else currently playing in the league would be a good backcourt fit with reke. we can agree that Beno has been a fantastic fit offensively, and we can all agree that most likely this is going to be the backcourt combo for a while. but theoretically speaking, who else might be a good fit offensively/defensively? a legit question. however i do agree that beno/reke works pretty good and if defense if mostly mental, there is no reason that beno can’t step it up.,.

Well
the guy closest to the team when Kevin Martin was trade was Sam Amik. Sam said that KMart wasn’t available and not going to get traded. He then got traded because the pieces were right that we were getting in return. I think there are only 5-10 guys in the league that are officially unavailable.
ah
maybe its because I don’t believe we got the right price . . .
Its too soon to go after a big FA though, maybe next year.

True
Beno’s ability to create his own shot, as well as open shots for others, would be awesome off the bench. He is really good at getting players open in their sweet spots, like Cisco in the corner, and Thompson on the elbow (two guys I see coming off the bench). Just because he is coming off the bench doesn’t mean he and Reke won’t be on the court together as well. Im just thinking about the future is all, as it pertains to the rest of the season though, I like them starting together.
+1 lttg
Beno just had one of his best games of the year & there is a post about replacing him? Don’t get me wrong el if we had an opportunity to draft a John Wall or trade for CP3 I’d say go for it but the Tyreke/Beno back court is good, REALLY GOOD & only getting better. To win a championship 3 all-stars are usually what it takes. How many teams have 5? Remember the 03/04 Lakers? My point is good roll players are needed & Beno fits the roll perfect as of now. Now that could change if Beno has another bad year but right now it works. We should focus on big man first & foremost.
Also Beno has been pretty good defensively this year. He’s not Gary Payton in his prime but the effort is there.
Also Beno’s defense has
I love beating dead horses.
Beno Draino
As I put in the post I don’t want to replace him on the team, I love his game and his chemistry he has with Reke. Probably bad timing on the post ha, but I had been thinking of this prior to his great game. I will not agree that he has played good defense this year, but the effort has been there. As I said I still would want him to play 24-30 min, but there is something to be said for a guy that can come off the bench and be instant and consistent offense. He makes other bench players like JT, Cisco, better because he can deliver them the ball at the right time in their sweet spots. Just because he was coming off the bench doesn’t mean that he wouldn’t be playing with Reke a lot. I think his value off the bench would be huge!! Agreed on the fact that I should have posted it after a bad game, like his D vs Portland, but I posted it now.
It was probably just bad timing
Maybe eventually he can be upgraded but I just figure we are already paying him some decent money so as long as he keeps producing like has might as well worry about other holes for now. When I was on the “I hate Beno” bandwagon I always said I don’t want the guy to fail just so my hatred is justified. I want him to succeed & he has done that this year so I can’t help but to be a little proud.
I love beating dead horses.

Billups and Joe Johnson would be my top 2 picks if they were younger
I’d like to see him play with somebody that can distribute the ball, shoot well from outside, and play above average defense. I’m not really sure if there are any young guys available this summer that fit those criteria.
maybe we could do a sign and trade with Charlotte
Beno and a first round pick for Ray Felton

A couple of things to consider
Right now, Tyreke is not a good outside shooter and although he comes up with steals and has good length and size, he is not a very good defender himself. So if you are looking at what we currently have, you need a good outside shooter who is also a good defender and preferably a ball handler and passer. Not much to ask for right? Beno actually does many of those things quite well for a guy who is not technically playing the PG position. Size is not an issue, because you can move Evans over onto the 2 on defense.
But let’s assume that Evans improves on his outside shooting and defense. What do you need then? I would lean toward a DC type player. Someone who can play shutdown D on the other team’s best shooter and is a great passer. Garcia probably fits that mold better than Beno. But I don’t think he is your starting two of the future.
"And I never said I don’t like KMart. I just don’t think the duo is good for the team. They are essentially two of the same player"
Sammyp831.
Beno
I will stick with Beno. Sometimes you just don’t appreciate what you’ve got. I think Beno fills the bill just fine. After the Raptors lost, at least one fan on Raptors HQ wanted to know whether we would trade Tyreke and Beno. Why is it the grass is always greener on the other side of the fence. Beno and Tyreke play very well together.
To be the best, you have to do your best. Otherwise, you are only second-rate.
well if i had to pick someone.... Devin Harris
It looks like Reke plays better with PGs (Beno), than SGs (Martin). So I would like the slight price upgrade to another PG Devin Harris. Ya that’s right I said it, Devin Harris. He is owed about $9mil a year for the next three 3 years. I know he is currently struggling with his shot in NJ, but he is capable of shooting the ball, as he shot 49% and 48% in his last two years in Dallas. I think his numbers could get back to around there if he was paired with Tyreke and wasn’t the focal point on a bad team (NJ is beyond bad). He is already a pretty good defender, and has the potential to be a REALLY good defender with a little bit of help. And if New Jersey is already going to win the “John Wall Sweepstakes” then that might mean he could be made available for a reasonable price. Nets could use a player like Garcia, but that leaves us paying big money for 2 PGs, if we could work out a 3 team deal to unload Beno and Garcia and w/e and come away with Harris, that would be a stretch, but sweet. So there it is, Harris is my pick. And I’m sure he could be made “attainable”
2 cents please
if we HAD to pick another PG to go after, for the sake of this argument. Is this a reasonable one? I’d like to hear opinions/criticisms/or just agreeing with me is cool too ;) i know a deal for him would involve more this off season than just opening up the check book and signing him, but I wouldn’t say acquiring him is impossible. anyone?
I didn't think about him
I like his game though. He is a very good defender, super quick, and I think his stock is definitely down this year. My only problem with him is that he is a good mid range shooter, but his 3 pt % is right around Tyreke’s, which would allow the defense to pack it in vs. us even more. That would be a great defensive back-court though. I think Jameer Nelson would be a good fit, but I don’t think Orlando would ever trade him. Maybe if NJ gets john wall they would want to part with Courtney Lee, I like his game as well. I still think Iggy would be awesome on the kings, but his 33% career 3pt shooting is below avg. Eric Gordon would be the best fit I believe though.
true
that he isnt shooting the ball well from 3.. but he can improve on that (numbers are down in both 3pt and FG% this year) but i think 36-40% would probably be his ultimate ceiling. As far as Jameer goes, you might as well stay with Beno. Jameer is undersized, and I don’t think he’s any better at defending than Beno. In my opinion defense and 3pt shooting are inversely related amung (most) of the PGs in the league. Guys like Nash, Jameer, and Beno are great 3pt shooters and cant defend very well (Nash not at all), where guys like Rondo and Harris defend, but dont shoot well from 3pt range. So (usually) you have to pick one or the other.
I like Devin Harris
I proposed trading Martin for him(before we traded him) in the offseason if the get Wall. He gets paid a lot though & I would want them to atleat take back Nocioni. Maybe Noce & Casspi for Harris & Terrance Williams. Casspi would feel like home near New York & Terrance Williams is a defensive monster. He’s also averaging 14-6.5-6 in 29 minutes his last four games after getting out of the doghouse. I don’t like giving up Casspi but we would have to give up something of value to get Harris & make them take back Noce. Casspi would be a HUGE draw in the Meadowlands or NY if they ever move. I liked T-Will ever since the draft. I was hoping he would fall to us at 23. He was only projected around 16 on most mock draft boards.
I love beating dead horses.
He would be nice
But I think his game is similar to tyreke’s. He loves to drive to the basket, get to the free throw line, or shoot a pull up (tyreke can’t do this well…yet) so I don’t know how it would work. But it definitely wouldn’t be a bad combo at all

Don't know that Turner/Tyreke would be a good combo
Neither can hit 3s. both are VERY ball dominant players. It’d take some masterful coaching to make it work.
How do you rate Cousins? I go back and forth on whether he’ll be Zbo/Al Jefferson overrated or he’ll be legit.
Whiteside is incredibly intriguing. Guy has all tools to be a superstar center. But he is incredibly raw.
I know I said no draft pics...
but holly shit! I watched he Ohio State game vs Michigan and my favorite college layer Evan Turner did it again. He is amazing, and him in Treke in the back-court would be ridiculous! What ever we have to do to get him in the draft we need to do, even if it means parting with one of our young guys.
I think the success Beno-Tyreke
shows what i’ve suspected all along. Tyreke will not be a point guard. He won’t be CP3, Deron Williams, Nash etc. He is a ball dominant wing player like Brandon Roy, Kobe, lebron… Jordan? That’s not a knock on him but it shows just how much better the team plays when Tyreke has an auxiliary player on the floor to alleviate a lot of the ball handling responsibility. I also think this was a larger reason Kevin Martin and Tyreke never really clicked.
Try to think of Jordan’s Bulls. He was main playmaker (well and Pippen) but he never played Pg. They had Kerr, BJ Armstrong, Paxton, Harper. you could so same w/ Kobe and fisher. The other thing with all those guys is, they were NOT ball dominant PG’s like a Chris Paul or John Stockton. They let the playmaker do his thing and new where to get the ball when they had it.
An ideal player next to Tyreke is someone who doesn’t need the ball a lot but can bring it up the court and run an offense as well, and hit open shots, play defense. Delonte west would be a perfect fit. He may be more of a combo guard, but his assist to turnover is really good, and he is incredibly good defender. (there is the minor issue of bieng completely insane)
Cisco isn't bad.
Although he’s number are limited because of the injury, if you use all players instead of just one’s that qualify, NBA.com has him very high. He’s 30th among guards in 3pt shooting percentage, 10th in blocks per game, and 8th in assist to turnover ratio.
And, Beno is pretty high on my list. But here are the others I’d consider. Not in any order.
Raymond Felton
Jarret Jack
Arron Brooks
Stephan Curry
OJ Mayo
Brandon Rush
I avoided most of the Stars that we probably couldn’t get anyway.

Interesting
I like Mayo and Felton as well. What are your thoughts on Turner? I like the idea of Mayo, because I have heard he is a winner and a great competitor. I like the idea of a two gaurd because since Beno has been starting, the PG on the other team is able to guard Beno. If it was Mayo, or Curry, the opposing PG would have to pick his poison. Turner is only shooting 29% from 3pt this year, but the year before he shot 44% and his last two games hes 5-5 from 3pt. He also is a good defender. After watching his game today he looks like he’s one of those guys that just has “it”. If we got the number 1 pick, or any pick that is a couple picks higher then the wolves, I would love to trade down with them, if we could swap thompson and Love. I like Hawes, as it’s hard to find C’s with his skill set. If we could pull this off…
Tyreke/Beno
Turner/Cisco
Greene/Casspi (Casspi/Greene)
Landry/Love
Hawes/ (Pryzbilla or Foster VIA FA or our 2nd Rdr)
There are so many studs in this draft
I hope GP is able to trade for anther 1st rd pick, so we could get two in the top 20.
Man
If we keep getting younger, the team will be in Seattle before it’s ready to win some important basketball games.

I'm not sure Donald Sterling is a human being. He had to have been manufactured by someone, possibly David Stern, so that one team could solely just make profit for the NBA while doing nothing good for themselves. -- Aykis 16
You'll need a top 3 pick to get Turner
and If I had a top 1, I take Wall. A 2nd or 3rd and I take a big, either Cousins or Favor. We have a backcourt star now I want a frontcourt star, or more specifically a low post 20/10 guy.
There is absolutlely no reason why Evans can’t be just as successful playing the 2 as he will be playing the 1. He’s needs to learn to hit the outside shot to be a great 2, and he’s going to have to learn to see the court better and make better passes to be a great 1. I don’t know which will come 1st, but I’m guessing the shooting. It’s going to be a while before we find out if he’ll ever be a great playmaker and initiator. That’s why I think it would be a mistake to try and force another backcourt mate on him until we know which way his career will go.
The safest bet is to go frontcourt thru the draft, and wait to we who’s the best fit along side Evans a year or two down the road. Until then Beno & Cisco will do, plus maybe another young prospect PG.
