Blazers 110, Kings 94
This will be a pretty simple recap.
The Kings turned the ball over on 20 of their 89 possessions. The Blazers shot 51 percent from the floor, 56 percent from three and 90 percent on their 32 free throw attempts. The Blazers rebounded 11 of their 36 misses.
There's really not much more to it than that.
Tyreke Evans never seemed comfortable on either end -- Brandon Roy shredded Reke (and every other Kings who attempted to defend him), and Evans coughed up the ball five times. He and Beno Udrih seemed to make a concerted effort to get Spencer Hawes involved early, but it never quite lined up right, and Hawes had four turnovers. Udrih shot well, but (all told) didn't get the ball enough. (Credit Portland for adjusting its defense to take Udrih out of his game in the second half.) Carl Landry was effective, but not to the degree expected -- he had quite an odd night, really. Jason Thompson was effective ... when the game was effectively over. Sean May is a business, man. Omri Casspi didn't have it. Francisco Garcia did, except on defense.
Roy was the best player on the court, and it wasn't even close. In two years or so, I hope the tables have turned. Until then, let's hope these games don't come around too often.

Nobody is obluigated to like anyone.
Although, I gotta admit why anyone would REALLY hate Portland is puzzling.

Good point, Pookey!
Our feelings come from our emotions, which may not be rational.
I believe Westphal spoke to this in one of his post game interviews. I do not remember what team the Kings lost to. (It might have been the Celtics.) But he talked about feeling “envy” toward the other team’s play, but he turned it around to being a goal for the Kings to work toward becoming as good at that team in the future. It was a good reframe: he turned a negative emotion (envy) into a positive goal.
So, instead of feeling hate toward a team, study that team to find out what makes them so good, and then work to make improvements to be at or above their level in the future.

Fun team to watch
Very fun. I like them much better than anyone else in the East, thats for sure. I have never liked the Cavs with LeBron. LeBron’s a great player, but I just really don’t like anyone else on that team. At all. Several people on the Magic I like after Dwight. Ryan Anderson, Gortat, Shard (not his contract his game), Meercat, Barnes… even Bass.

I'll be watching Portland, mainly because of Brandon Roy.
I see Tyreke Evans, leading candidate for R.O.Y, connected to Brandon, because he was a former R.O.Y. For me watching Brandon Roy is somewhat like watching what Tyreke will be like in the future. Having a ROY candidate on the Kings makes me that much more aware of former Rookies of the Year.

it was me, his stats are as good, and better than brandon's rookie year, he is also way younger
wants he can shoot he will almost have the whole package, clutchness should come too.
yeah brandon has been coming out with something to prove against these younger guards the last couple games. (tyreke, and especially monta ellis who thinks he owns roy).

I knew it was you, but I didn't want to completely throw you under the bus.
You’re right their stats are fairly comparable, which I think goes to prove that statistics do not always tell the tale. Brandon showed Tyreke who is boss last night. I agree with you that Tyreke is younger and that when he gets his shot, he will be there. Actually, I think Tyreke is clutch already, as he plays his best under pressure. He even says it – he wants the ball in those situations.
It wasn’t a bad analogy to make, but last night turned out to be the wrong time. I think we all look forward to the day when Tyreke can give Brandon a “spanking.”

brandon really plays his best when he is matched up against the elite guards in the league
often out-dueling kobe and wade whenever they are matched up. Hopefully he will be able to do that when matched up with tyreke then next 7 years.

Obvious the Kings still need time to figure out their roles.
With the exception of Reke, Beno and Landry, the Kings are all still attempting to figure out how and where they fit into this team. Their roles are not defined yet, and that won’t come until next season, or hopefully, by the end of this season. That is what the Kings need to be consistent and good. That, and another talented big.
Oh, and Reke is so ridiculously good, that I, as a Kings fan, am thanking the basketball gods (ie-Petrie and crew) that our team has a legitimate pillar to build around.
Omri has got no legs at all. Will he have anything soon? Oh, and I like Cisco first off the bench.
its not possible for a young team to lose a game against a better team is it? in

Guess I wasn't clear. I was not taking the loss seriously or hard.
Quite the opposite. I was trying to point out the fact that the Kings are still in the process of meshing as a team, so wins and losses don’t really matter this season. Other than for lottery position.

Roy was a very mature junior and senior at UW
Most are right that a more fair comparison would be of Evans in two years and Roy this year. With that said I don’t really like the comparison of Roy and Evans because the two of them are very different players. Roy has never relied so heavily on his physical strength and is more of a finesse player who has dedicated himself to becoming efficient at every aspect of a shooting guard’s game.
Roy is like a player you build in a video game. You have limited attributes to give to any certain skill so you balance all the parameters…he doesn’t have any glaring weaknesses…he’s just good at everything. Roy even blend’s into his team. Even though he’s clearly their best player it never seems like he overly dominates the ball.
At least we're trying different things
I mentioned in the game preview, that the Kings guards need to learn how to get the ball inside against good exterior defenses and zones. So, I was pleasantly surprise to see both Tyreke and Beno, getting the ball into Spencer. Yes, he turned it over and we didn’t get many points, but it’s a skill the guards needed to develop.
So, whether it’s Spencer, JT, Landry or some future center, that’s down low, the guards still need to be able to move the ball inside and I as very glad to see them try. Especially the play where Camby came out out to stop the ball and we got the ball to Spencer for the easy dunk. It was something that Westphal said he wanted to accomplish during one of the prerecorded comment that they played during the game.
I think we’ve won 5 games against Western Conference playoff teams, and Portland beat us soundly earlier in the week. So, although I would have minded seeing the KIngs win, I really wasn’t to be expected. So, I really like that the Kings are adding new things to their offense. It won’t change much in the grand scheme of things for this season, but it’s going to pay big dividends next season.

As a blazers fan
Someone convince me why Hawes will ever be better than a crappy back-up. I have watched about 5 kings games this year (all the blazers ones and couple more) – entirely for reke – and Hawes is stand out for being the worst player everytime. Last night he was a big reason portland was able to pull away. Bad desicions, terrible body language, cant defend, can’t post.
I can see the rest of talent on the team. Landry – solid, thompson – enough flashes to keep him in the rotation, Beno has shot very well every time I watch him, Cassipi – great energy guy, and I love Reke. He is a much bigger, more athletic version of Andre Miller. Seemed like he could get to the paint at will and solid finisher, great rebounder, decent defender, inconsistent jumper. Garcia could be your version of Thabo with OKC. Hope you look hard at wesley johnson in the draft if you are in that 5/6 range – I think he would work well.
But I just dont see it with Hawes. Maybe I am crazy.
There is no convincing
You're not crazy. Interesting that he should stand out to you as being so crappy.
Hawes drives a lot of us crazy with his inconsistency. There is a lot of back and forth discussion as to whether he should be kept, with hopes that he will develop better defensive skills, or traded. His offensive skills are currently better than his defensive ones. The terrible body language, that you refer to, drives me nuts. Personally, I see him becoming a decent back-up center. I hope the Kings will get a better, more talented, defensive-minded center soon. But, that is just me.
To be the best, you have to do your best. Otherwise, you are only second-rate.
You really can't go wrong with any of the top 3 picks in this draft.
Wall/Turner can both be great complements to Evans, and Cousins is a beast inside.

That's what people have been saying.
I’ll probably watch a little bit of Cousins and Turner today on TV. Kentucky plays this morning at 10 on Channel 10 and Ohio State plays at 12:30 on channel 13. I am really curious about Cousins with his reputation for his stats and his problematic outbursts.
To be the best, you have to do your best. Otherwise, you are only second-rate.
In an earlier post, before the trade deadline
other sites were questioned about players that they would be interested and Spencer was brought up quite a few times. I guess the beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
Off course there have been many questions here about Oden and his future and where Portland would be without Camby. So, maybe the future of the center position is up for grabs on both teams. So, we’ll hope Oden gets healthy for you and you can hope Hawes develops for us.
