Favorite player of all time.....
So I was sitting here on a normal Thursday night, and my wife starts to conversate with me about basketball, topics like what's going to happen with Lebron, and so I start to give her my thoughts on the whole thing.(I'm pretty lucky to have a wife that talks to me about basketball, I KNOW). Then she fire's off a question.
"Who's your favorite player of all time?"
It really got me thinking, Do I even have one? I lived in Arizona for 7 years and when Charles Barkley got traded to the Suns. I was a huge fan. I said to her that I liked Kevin Johnson and the whole suns team growing up (including Richard Dumas, Ainge, Majerle, etc, and I even admitted to crying in game 6 of the Finals in 1993 when John Paxon nailed the 3 to put the series away in the closing seconds. (I was only 11 years old).
Its kinda funny that Paul Westphal is the coach of the Kings now. I feel like maybe I have some bias to him as a coach too because of all those years ago. I also told her that I really liked white chocolate when he was with the Kings. The flash that guy played with turned so many heads and gave me some real pride, being a Kings fan.
So she asked me again, and my answer for right now was... "Tyreke Evans".
I know its pretty premature, but this guy is amazing, and maybe the fact that it feels like he is going to do some remarkable things for this franchise boosts my opinion of him.
I thought it would be interesting to find out what the STR viewpoint was on this subject.
So....
"Who's your favorite player of all time?" and/or
"Do you feel like Tyreke is becoming that player for you?"

nothing related to the above, but
I can’t wait to see the Bucks game, I really hope we smother them. Bogut has been amazing tho. Should be fun to watch and I hope I see some Peachquel T’s out in the audience!
DC, end of story.
Lockdown defense, great passing, made everyone on his team better when he was on the floor with them. Had the athleticism to get 20 a night, but knew how to defer to higher profile offensive options. The Kings never get to a conference finals without him.
Tyreke won’t be like DC, in that he’s going to be That Guy™ over the course of his career. The real question is, will the Kings ever acquire a player that can function as his Doug Christie? No one on the roster fits the bill, although if Cisco ever got rid of the inevitable bonehead-itis, he’d be the closest. Garcia just doesn’t have DC’s passing ability, super-quick hands on defense, or innate court sense, not that many do, of course.
Rocks are free, and slingshots easily stolen.
doug christie
was definitely one of those “glue” type players who brought the team together and made them play better

Seems like he was a player.. What did you like about him?
Joseph (Joe) James Wolf (born December 17, 1964 to Patricia and Leo Wolf in Kohler, Wisconsin) is a retired American professional basketball player in the NBA. He was the 13th overall pick of the 1987 NBA Draft, selected by the Los Angeles Clippers. He played college basketball at the University of North Carolina. He averaged 4.2 points and 3.3 rebounds per game throughout a 11 year professional career.
wow now i feel really really old
If you think Sean May is out of shape, you need to look at some old Joe Wolf footage. Not quite as heavy but the guy was sweating buckets in about 3 minutes. I remember once in his 30s when he played with the Nuggets he came off the bench and in about five minutes Jerry Reynolds was already commenting on how exhausted Joe Wolf looked. Funny thing is that he was MJ’s friend and MJ wanted the Bulls to draft him and got pissed when they didn’t. Instead they decided to draft OP and then trade him for Scottie Pippen.
Oh and I forgot to mention, Joe Wolf really really really sucked.

I cant forget to give a little
Jon Barry love also. My favorite part of the bench mob. Instant energy, good defense, hustle player, Knock down the 3 ball. One of my favs…
Interesting question
Favorite player of all time: Magic
Favorite King of all time: That’s tough. Mitch, Peja, Weber, Vlade, Kevin… That’s really tough. I liked Reggie, I liked Tank, I liked Lionel, I liked Grant, I liked Corlis. I liked Jason.
I really started watching NBA basketball during Magic’s rookie year. My best friend adopted the Celtics. I chose the [Redacted]. Magic will probably always be my favorite player. Though, I hope someday a King can replace him. Being a Kings fan and a [Redacted} fan was easy during the 80s. Support the Kings every night. Support the [Redacted] every night except when they played the Kings. Support the [Redacted] in the playoffs. Easy. Once Magic retired, I felt no connection to that team from down south. So it was all Kings and only the Kings.
Favorite King is really tough. Kevin Johnson would’ve been a no brainer. I saw him in High School, I saw him at Cal, and I wanted the Kings to draft him. But, alas it was not to be. Fucking Kenny Smith.
I think if I had to pick one King as my all time favorite, it would have to be Mitch. He made the Kings relevant. He was in the top 3 at his position (MJ, Clyde, Mitch. IMO). He was an all-star, and an all-star MVP. Vlade, Peja and Chris will alway be right there. Chris hurt himself a bit when he threw Peja under the bus. But I still respect his play. Vlade would be very close to Mitch in my heart, but he seems to have realigned himself with the [Redacted] in his post Sac-town years. Peja, was great. But, Mitch was greater. So, it has to be Mitch.
I hope Tyreke has the longevity as a Kings player to take that spot. I know he has the talent.

Magic’s also my favorite player of all time. The Lakers of his time were a much more classy and professional operation. And Magic’s the guy that made me a fan of the NBA prior to the Kings arrival in town.
Favorite King of all time is Vlade, no doubt about it. Great player, great leader, and a damn funny guy to boot.
Am I the only one who noticed that Tom Zook gave his bank account number to an anonymous person over the phone?
Its ok to admit being a fan of the old Lakers
Magic, Worthy, Cooper, Wilkes, Nixon, Thompson, Jabbar…they we CLASSY and played with flair, not arrogance! My altime favorite player that I have watched has to Worthy. He was the beginning of the new breed PF. With that said my all time favorite King will be Vlade. Very gifted, under appreciated by many and a Classy, Kind Genuine person
"If my aunt had a set of nuts, she'd be my uncle"
i will proudly say
My very first kings game of my life was against the Lakers and Magic was killing us so I decided to stand up and throw up a double bird at him and yell “You suck!.” I was 9. I was also grounded.

I remember seeing a Lakers game at the first Arco Arena
And somehow the Kings were ahead of the Lakers by double digits in the first half of a regular season game. The Lakers were going through the motions a bit, figuring they would be able to turn it on whenever they felt like it.
About halfway through the second quarter, the Lakers took a timeout and I could see Magic chewing his teammates asses in the huddle. Damn if they didn’t end up with the lead at halftime, and ended up winning by about 20.
Magic was one of those rare leaders – he led both by example and verbally.
Am I the only one who noticed that Tom Zook gave his bank account number to an anonymous person over the phone?
Funny- Magic is my all-time favorite also.
As far as Kings, Tisdale was always a favorite along with Simmons, Richmond, Brian Grant, Christie and currently Jason Thompson.

I have a lot of love for OP.
He sang in the Incredible Universe karaoke booth with me and some buddies after an autograph signing session years ago. I think he is a cool dude who makes some stupid decisions.

Growing up
Peja was my favorite, mainly because I loved great shooting. Hence the 16 in my username. But I don’t really have an All-Time favorite. I love so many different Kings for so many different reasons. Cisco is probably my current favorite King now that Speed’s gone (Hell, he probably was my favorite with Speed here).

Webber..
Only because his play really got me into Kings ball. I know he’s sort of considered a transplant among everyone here (Bullets, Warriors, Magic before Sacto), but he was still my favourite. I also love Peja because I love great shooting and liked Bibby. I guess I didn’t really know Divac because I sort of became a fan at the tail end of his career!
Webber was drafted by the Magic but never played for them.

Doug Christie
my favorite King. I always loved hardworking defenders who played for the team.
Michael Cooper of the Lakers was also such a guy.
Now, Omri and Evans.
All time favorite: Rik Smits of course. Everebody thought he was just another long, non-athletic stiff, but he had some solid skills. He was great in one epic play-off series against the Knicks (when Reggie Miller scored something like 40 points in 87 seconds)..
Dunking Dutchman
Lew Alcindor / Kareem Abdul-Jabbar
My early basketball fandom followed him from UCLA to Milwaukee to LA. Had a conversation with him once on the train at Hartsfield Airport – him sitting, me standing, having an eye-to-eye chat.
Favorite Kings player: The Rock. The best baseline to baseline player that the Kings have ever had.

some wiki for you
Sloan enjoyed a good NBA career, playing in two All-Star Games, being named to the NBA All-Defensive First Team four times and the All-Defensive Second team twice
Sloan is ranked tenth in the NBA’s all-time leaders category for steals per game,[His playing career was cut short by successive knee injuries, and he turned his attention to coaching. Because of his influential career with the Bulls, the franchise retired Sloan’s No. 4 jersey, the first jersey retired by the Bulls.

My favorite Sloan moment is that he punched somebody in the jaw and all that was called was a personal foul.
And I was kidding. Its good dor others to know that he was a terrific player though.

Favorite King (and 2nd favorite player): CWebb
Favorite Player: LeBron James - he’s just too amazing.
Screw you Knicks! LBJ to the Kings!!!
Player Favorites:
Before I moved here and before I became a Kings fan, my favorite player was Kobe. I still believe that Kobe is the best player on the planet, but LeBron James and Kevin Durant are right on his tail. I look forward to the day Durant surpasses Kobe.
After I moved the this area, I became a Kings fan watching the 2002 Playoffs. Mike Bibby became my favorite player, at that time. I would have to count Chris Webber right up there with him.
Later, I became a big fan of Kevin Martin.
Now, Tyreke Evans is fast becoming a favorite of mine.
To be the best, you have to do your best. Otherwise, you are only second-rate.
I also like Steve Nash and D-Wade a lot.
To be the best, you have to do your best. Otherwise, you are only second-rate.
Favorite Players - Mitch Richmond, Chris Paul, Sarunas Marshalonis
And yes, Tyreke has a shot to beat them all out.
By the way, least favorite players – Spud Webb (i think i am the one person in the planet who could not stand the little guy), Robert Horry (You know what you did you bastard), Kobe, Jalen Rose, Steve Francis, Jon Starks, Damiper, Eddy Curry
Players I Hated Yet Loved Hating and Could Have Had Some Respect for if I was not a jerk – Magic, MJ, Stockton, Rodman
Could some of you maybe use a condom once in a while?
oh damnitall
I was crazy for Sarunas. Liked him as a Warrior and a King. I like intensity and that guy brought it every night. I used to enjoy the way he shot free throws – the ref passed him the ball and boom! he would shot it right up – no bouncing, no pretend form, no twirling the ball to the seams. Just caught it and shot it.

Tyreke is by far my current fave
Chris Webber & Bobby Jackson all-time Kings faves easy. C-Webb was my favorite basketball player while Bobby was my favorite guy on the team. I love me some B-Jax. That whole team was great though Bibby had ice water in his veins & DC13 will always be one of my favorites for punkin Bitch Fox.
I love beating dead horses.
Favorite King ...
Doug Christie
Favorite all time … Jerry West. I grew up in SoCal, so I listened to a lot of Lakers games on the radio. There is only room for one on a little kid’s pedestal.
Magic was always my favorite player...
Favorite King was Mitch Richmond. He always seemed to put the team on his back back when the Kings were not that good. His trade really was the beginning of the Kings nice run as well, Thanks Mitch! I will give an honorable mention to Reggie Theus for his finger roll, Peja for being the best shooter in the NBA at one point and C Webb for giving us our only Top 10 active NBA Player. Hopefully that torch passes to Tyreke.
If Tyreke could shoot outside like even Spencer and if he could actually dunk on a few people then I could see him becoming my new favorite King.
Perception is strong and sight weak. In strategy it is important to see distant things as if they were close and to take a distanced view of close things.
