2004-2010 Player Comparison Chart (Updated 3/5)
Hey Folks,
So I have been doing a lot of compiling stats lately and importing them into really useful and enjoyable to use Google Motion Charts. As I understand it via Ben at Blazersedge you folks, Ziller included are a bit of stat heads like us up here in rain country, and thought I would pass along this chart. It encompasses players that have compiled 15+ Poss/gm between 2004-2010, as you'll see the list of variables is pretty large. However the Default state for the chart I am linking to shows how Sac players stack up from a value stand point. The size of the player bubble represents the salary a player earned during that year, the color of the bubble represents their number of years of service. The 2 Axis are PER rating, and Poss/gm.
Hope you all enjoy. Here is a bit of a tutorial image that I created to help you understand how to use these graphs.
Edit: Now includes Age, Draft Position, Years Service

You are brilliant
I am stunned and amazed…!!! This should be used as a commercial or the poster use of Google apps.
To truly appreciate this...
I would suggest that you deselect the players with check marks and then select Kevin Durant and a couple of guys that have been in the NBA a few years. Then click the Play button down on the left bottom corner. It will show you their progress over time. Pretty damn amazing.
Thanks
Guys thanks for your appreciation. Mustang, you are seeing the true capabilities of this, it can be used to look at so many things. I think I have roughly 30 variables that can be chosen for either axis, then you can also set a variable to the bubble size as well as the color of the bubble. It really allows you to visualize a lot of different things.

This is very interesting.
I checked out Kevin Durant, which shows his meteoric rise over the past few years.
To be the best, you have to do your best. Otherwise, you are only second-rate.
It's beautiful!

Thanks again

Lot of interesting things to learn.
I changed the size based on minutes and color on TS%.
Look at how awesome Amaré Stoudemire ws in 2007. He,Chris Paul, and Lebron were all over 27 PER, and he had fewer possessions and a higher TS%
In 2006 it is surprising how good Yao Ming was to me. Behind only Dirk and Wade in PER in fewer minutes a game.
2004 was the last year dominated by big men, Tim, KG, Amaré and Dirk.
I also like the graph feature. Taking the top 6 PER from this year and comparing them against each other, it is amazing how consistently good Tim Duncan is, even in his later years. Interesting to see bad years by Wade in 2007 to have his best the next, and Chris Paul this year, maybe next year he will bounce back in similar fashion. Bosh looks like he will continue to get better, Durant started off lower than others in PER but has had his improvement is incredible.

Fascinating
I have been really interested to view this in a lot of different ways. One thing I have looked at a lot is putting Years of service on the bottom axis and compare it to Drtg, PPP, PER etc. gives you a better sense of how different player’s growth curves are. etc…
Glad you are enjoying this.

This chart helped me to see that LeBron James is good at basketball, and that Larry Hughes is not.
Thanks InvisibleNinja!

Well
If you wanted to use it to see what you already know that is great. I didn’t create this for that purpose. I do appreciate your sarcasm though.

Oh no, sorry dude. I wasn't trying to attack you. It was more self-deprication than anything. I caught some flack in the past for criticizing LeBron.
I was just being stupid. I actually really did like the chart.
No malicious intent whatsoever.

These threats should make the threat level go to at least orange or something.
No mistakes in the tango, Donna. Not like life. Simple. That's what makes the tango so great. If you make a mistake, and get all tangled up, you just tango on.....
I'm not sure Donald Sterling is a human being. He had to have been manufactured by someone, possibly David Stern, so that one team could solely just make profit for the NBA while doing nothing good for themselves. -- Aykis 16
You fellas are crazy
So are you guys able to draw any conclusions looking at these variables? Anything else you would like to examine?

My Bad
Maybe posting at BlazersEdge I have gotten cynical, so many people either love or hate stats in general, or these charts. Obviously I have invested a lot of time that I really don’t have a lot of into this, so I am probably more protective than I should be. Glad that you appreciate this… and what the hell are you thinking criticizing Lebron… J/K
