8:37 left in the 4th and the game was tied

Then the Kings fell on their faces and totally lost the game.

Red herring if you ask me.

It was a bit late and a last ditch effort. More representative of the team’s don’t quit attitude than anything else.

Yes.

They wore down, but they wore down after being up big at one point in the game. What really cost them a chance at victory was not finishing the 2nd qtr and starting the 3rd qtr well.

I completely disagree

Sure they came out cold in the third, but were never down double digits. They waged a battle of momentum and it went back and forth. They ended the Third down by five points. That isn’t some horror fest and showed spirit.

They continued this back and forth until the last half of the fourth quarter. Then that completely lost it. They had 8 minutes to mount ANY kind of comeback. To get ANY kind of momentum and they completely failed.

The lost this game and it was not lost until the end of the fourth quarter.

by MustangMBS on Mar 22, 2010 10:58 PM PDT up reply actions

Okay

The scramble to stay in the game cost them more energy, I think, than the energy it would had they maintained a lead at the end of the 2nd and at the beginning of the 3rd.

Maybe the Kings lose by the end of the game, but it’s close and it probably would have something to do with Memphis playing out of their minds.

OJ Mayo's 10 points in just over 2 minutes didn't help and sealed the deal.

It didn’t help that the Kings missed missed missed missed missed. Cisco and Noc missed 5 shots in the last 4 minutes. Not that anybody else was hitting much either, but they took most of the last shots and missed them.

by MustangMBS on Mar 22, 2010 11:07 PM PDT up reply actions

Oh here you go. The loss is all on Cisco and Noc..

The reason the Kings lost is because they didn’t take enough advantage of their strong play with boneheaded plays at the wrong times. When they weren’t boneheaded, they were missing shots as the game wore on.

Memphis is the better team with athletes, skills, and brawn at every position. They aren’t a championship team, but they would have been the Kings 10 out of 10 times tonight with how they played.

I said nothing of the sort.

So, don’t go putting words in my mouth. I am not mike murry, from below.

I fully recognize just how good Memphis was, but I ALSO recognize that we held our own for most of the game and am not wrong about the missed shots.

Hmmm, that sounds like throwing Noc & Cisco under the bus without trying to sound like youre throwing them under the bus. Way to talk out of both sides of your mouth Mr. Ed.

I agree with Mustang. I don’t think he threw Cisco or Noc under the bus. He simply said they took most of the shots at crunch time, and missed on this night. Nothing else. I think you’re reading too much into it, Pookey.

Sorry but when you're down 11 with 3 mins left in the 4th and...

PW sent Noce in, didn’t everyone here understand that as a “Noce, go in there and see if you can hit some threes” statement. I mean Omri also came in for probably the same reasonl.

Teams are more comfortable leaving Noce at the 3point line because he misses more shots. But I think he went in to try to do the job that PW sent him in to do.

There can only be one Noce!

by NoceOne on Mar 23, 2010 1:12 AM PDT up reply actions

I understood exactly that.

Especially after that first play out of the timeout with the play drawn straight up for Noc who got the wide open 3.

Unfortunate loss

Kings were bullied inside, ended up playing pretty sloppily in the 2nd half on both ends of the court, and in the end lost. Also, Beno Udrih led the Kings in boards. That’s not good.

Anyone else impressed by Thabeet tonight? I was. Not 2nd pick worthy, but he’s not going to be a complete bust if he puts some work in.

Not terrible

We didn’t have our best player, and Memphis is a terrible matchup for us. ZBo is just too big, and Thabeet looked decent. Spencer needs to keep eating his vitamins. Then when Mayo got hot we had no chance. On the plus side, Beno is on fire. I’m proud to be a fan of his again. I wish May would get more minutes. He’s mistake prone, but his effort is obvious.

You know, I like May....

He is mistake prone, but sometimes I think it’s because he’s trying a little too hard because he wants more minutes so badly, but he has potential that is yet to be realized…with his broad body I think he could develop even a Boozer-like game on the inside, even tho’ I think he sees himself as an offensive finesse player…the coaching staff can encourage him to be more than that , I think…

love to see Beno play well, I’ve thought for a while he could rise to the occassion, good to see him do that, it’s good for him and the Kings.

Shooting 3 pointers doesn't affect Defensive rebounding.

Dalembert is better for his career. This is a fact you cannot refute.

He seems to fulfill the need for defense and rebounding better.

More importantly, I wonder if it might be worth getting a defensive big in free agaency/trade (if Kings can) and use lottery pick for a kickass 2/3, since bigs take longer to develop.

I'd be shocked if there was really 5000 people in there ElRon.

Didn’t look any emptier than any other game. Attendance is definitely down…

There were a ton of empty seats in the lower bowl. That's what's surprising.

Well

Not a lot of bandwagon Memphis fans I guess. The only time the Arena fills up is when a popular opponent comes to town anyway.

Well I think reported attendance is ticket sales

But whoever didn’t show up didn’t pay for parking passes, refreshments, etc.

seriously? He was 1-4 in 12 mins until he got put back with 3mins left...

and us down by 11. He then misses 3 straight 3pointers. Sure, that’s a bad line, 1-7 FG, 1-5 from 3…

But hey, did he really have a choice in his last few shots? Im pretty sure he was put there in the hopes he could hit a few threes and get us closer. So him not taking those shots would be the actual failure.

Easier to just twiddle his thumbs and do nothing than to actually try something and risk failing.

Im sure you’d have been more amenable to the “sacrificing his stats” concept if it was Reke or Beno or Omri or Donte shooting and missing those three’s.

The season is winding down...

And IMHO it is already a success. We are playing with house money now. I just want them to finish strong and keep the chemistry at a high level and hope players like JT, Donte and Spencer are inspired to work on their games over the summer.

I don't think we have to worry about tanking

What did you expect? A win?

You have a starting lineup with 2 well below par wings against a strong Grizzlies team. Garcia almost single handedly shot us out of the game (nocioni’s normal duty). Speaking of Noci and Garcia, they managed an incredible 4-19 and 10 pts. Pathetic. Strait chuckers, the both of em.

by mike murray on Mar 22, 2010 10:46 PM PDT reply actions

The whole bench shot like crap. I don't know why you're singling out Noc or Cisco by themselves.

The reasons are:

A- You can’t win when you have a starting sg score 7 points in 35+ minutes at a horrible percentage (Garcia).
B- Nocioni 7 shots in 11 minutes (and make 1). Unexceptable for a team not trying to tank.
C- Starting Front court has 36 points, and pg has a near triple double. And the bench mob of Casspi, Thompson, and Udoka all have a strong + in the plus/minus colum. Who do you blame?
D- Seems overall the kings played well, except Garcia and Noci playing selfish basketball. Neither should see time on a competitive team, and thats exactly what we are building.

by mike murray on Mar 22, 2010 10:56 PM PDT up reply actions

cisco makes those shots often

at least the wide open ones. i’ll roll with it. he shot a couple off balance but sometimes he makes those too. he had a bad game. it happens. noc’s shots were almost all in desperation mode. not why we lost.

Stats can be misleading

Are you going on the box score or did you watch the game? I am asking because if you saw the game you will remember that Nocioni only came in when the other players were getting in serious foul trouble / worked over for loose balls at the free throw area. Noce brings the toughness and can frustrate opponents. Most of his selfish shots were when the Kings were down and he was passed to on most of them and not taking shots off of the dribble like Garcia.

I am not saying Noce had a great game but he wasn’t the reason we lost.

Gasol has become a load since he lost weight….speaking of which who stole the other half or Randolph. Memphis must have a damn good nutritionist.

Randolph hasn't really lost weight from what I've noticed. He's just better when a team utilizes him right. He plays with less attitude and a chip on his shoulder.

He’s also grown up a bit, and being traded twice has helped that along I bet.

If Nocioni was playing selfish basketball, he would have protected his bad...

but not terrible stat line of 1-4. Instead, he chose to shoot in the hopes of bringing us back from 11 points down, knowing that if he missed, idiots like you would blame him and his measly mins as the reason for the loss, despite the fact that we went down by 11 when Noce was on the bench.

There can only be one Noce!

Stranger things have happened...

The Griz are a big team, especially with Gasol and Randolph but you never know. Looks like we are all going to be at the hot tub time machine draft lottery party together so it doesn’t really matter.

by OrangeLazarus on Mar 22, 2010 10:50 PM PDT up reply actions

I agree with you. I was especially disappointed with Garcia's shooting.

I’ve already come to expect it with Noc. I would have liked to have seen Westphal pull Garcia out of the game, but as Westphal stated he had to play Beno and Garcia because he didn’t have any other guards. With Tyreke out and Sergio TRADED, the team is a little bit short of guards right now. We could have used Sergio last night. But, that is all water under the bridge. Something to be aware of for the future, though. The team needs another guard.

To be the best, you have to do your best. Otherwise, you are only second-rate.

by Slam_Dunk on Mar 23, 2010 8:46 AM PDT up reply actions

now peaches gets a lot of grief on the interwebs

but you have to admire how he seamlessly subs in beno for tyreke in the “incessant recounting of statistics (‘hey he might get a triple double’)” category

that’s why the guy gets the big bucks
