Can we officially end the Raymond Felton conversation now? Please?
Give Beno some credit. He is better than Felton imo. Felton might play a little better defensively but it’s only because of ability. Not desire. Beno has played great this year & deserves to start. So unless we have a chance to aquire John Wall, Evan Turner, CP3, Deron Williams, Steph Curry, or Rondo please stop trying to replace Beno with a high priced, mediocre, or “solid” Ray Felton. There are greater needs right now. And we are not getting Felton for 3-4 million. He turned down a $6 million per year contract from the Cats last year.
Sorry for the rant.

Respectfully disagree...again
By your thought process, we should have passed on Tyreke and drafted Jordan Hill, as our glaring weakness was up front. Instead, we drafted Evans and eventually traded Martin for Landry.
I have a difficult time understanding how talent does not fit on a 24 win team.
SACTOWN ROYALTY - Try our thick creamy shakes!
No no.
This team needed a franchise player. Don’t misrep my opinion. I’m not misrep’in yours.
The problem now that you have Tyreke, where do you get help up front? Up front, especially a player like DeMarcus Cousins or Derrick Favors are really hard to find. Most years, they would be considered the major prizes of the draft. Simply because Wall & Turner are special talents they are not.
But how John Wall, or Evan Turner for that matter, makes this team better for the long term is beyond me. Assets are impotant yes. I don’t disagree with that. But you need to have strong play up front, and playing Reke at the 3 diminishes much of what makes him a great player.
The Kings are at the crossroads that any NBA team is at. Do you go for a player with “slightly” less upside than a John Wall in a guy like Favors or Cousins, or do you take Wall and sort it out later?
If this were the Nets, it’d be Wall or Turner every time. More so Wall IMO, because I think Favors still fits a better need for them given Harris, Williams and Lee, but still you can make that argument. In Minny’s case, they definitely need a Wall or Turner more than anything else. They need a franchise player.
The Kings have a franchise player. Now you want to add a 2nd G to that franchise player because he’s the best player available and you don’t want the Kings to be like the Blazers in 1984? Reality check: The Blazers made the playoffs 22 straight years. That was not all due to Paul Allen’s money.

It’s a really off the wall assumption.
EvilCowtownInc: Screwin Suckaz over since 1985......
No mistakes in the tango, Donna. Not like life. Simple. That's what makes the tango so great. If you make a mistake, and get all tangled up, you just tango on.....
Here's the problem I really have
The assumption that John Wall is that transcendent player. Umm, yeah. Sure. But John Wall is not a good shooter from the outside. He is not Chris Paul at the same age. He has many of Paul’s qualities, but he is not Chris Paul. (He’s a lot taller and athletic than CP3 but whatever.)
You’re asking 2 G’s to play together who both get to the basket and that’s their strengths. And your’e doing this because youre afraid because you don’t want to pass the best talent based on need? That’s as dumb as passing on Tyreke Evans because you already have Kevin Martin.
The difference between Evans and Martin is quite a bit vast: Evans is a franchise player. Martin is not.
The last point I’m going to make (and you get your last word so you choose) is that if you’re worried about losing a player the caliber of Wall because you’re worried about the media fallout as an organization, than I suppose your organization will never win it all. Part of what makes a great team is having great talent top to bottom.
This team loses games more so because they don’t have the horses up front. Whether that horse is in the 2010 draft I don’t really know. Do you? If it isn’t Favors or Cousins (and I’d be shocked), than okay. If it’s Udoh or Whiteside or someone else, than okay.
But how this team really benefits from John Wall more than a quality player up front is not something I understand. Given that big players are much harder to find than players on the perimeter, I guess we’ll have to disagree.
But the 2010 draft is probably the last time the Kings get that opportunity to get that game changing big up front. If the Kings take John Wall, I will root for it to work. But I will heavily criticize the decision than, and if it doesn’t work, everyone here and around the world will owe me a fat I told you so.

I could give a flying fig about media fallout. My sole concern is that you don’t pass on talent to draft for need when you have a high lottery pick. Not when you are a team in desperate need of talent.
If you think that Wall is not the best prospect coming out of college this year, make your case. I’ll respect your opinion to pass on Wall if you feel that there is better talent to be drafted. But to pass on Wall because you’re afraid that he won’t fit on one of the bottom 10 teams in the NBA? Silliness.
SACTOWN ROYALTY - Try our thick creamy shakes!
I didn't say you gave a shit about media fallout (goddammit here I go again...)
I was talking about the Kings organization.
I’m arguing with the point that the best talent makes the Kings the best team. It’s not that simple. If it was, I’d agree with you. What do I get exactly for arguing against the grain of an entire group of people? Especially when more than a few people in that group think I’m a raving asshole egomaniac who gets a rise out of bullying people because I have more comments than anyone else. But that’s not your problem. You’re not one of those people. I’m not saying you are.
This team has won 24 games for a lot of reasons. And I might add that this is most of the same core of the team that won 17 games a year ago. And the young players who have helped this team improve (like Tyreke) will help this team win more games. This team will win more games because they improve. Young impact players help teams get better. Can we agree on that?
But young impact players can’t make up for the lack of big players up front. John Wall may be the best player in the draft, but unless he can keep players like Zach Randolph or Hasheem Thabeet from making a strong impact against the Kings, how much help is he?
Just as important, how much does the Kings benefit from having 2 top 5 pick G’s with 2 mid level players like Beno and Cisco? Someone will have to go, and knowing ego’s, that will likely be Wall or Evans. There was a reason OKC passed up Tyreke. They already had Russell Westbrook. It was the same reason they passed up Ricky Rubio right or wrong. The best talent does not always help your team more. You need stars yes, but you also need players who allow those stars to be stars.
We can disagree with this all you want, and you know I don’t discount your opinion. But this argument is the difference between a team making a championship run and a team figuring out how to make the playoffs.
EvilCowtownInc: Screwin Suckaz over since 1985......
No mistakes in the tango, Donna. Not like life. Simple. That's what makes the tango so great. If you make a mistake, and get all tangled up, you just tango on.....
So much for letting me have the last word
Just a note – When you respond to one of my posts and you say something like “The last point I’m going to make (and you get your last word so you choose) is that if you’re worried about losing a player the caliber of Wall because you’re worried about the media fallout as an organization, than I suppose your organization will never win it all. Part of what makes a great team is having great talent top to bottom,” I’m probably going to think that the remark is meant for me.
Next, talent wins championships. Superstar talent. And the Kings need more talent. They are not yet at the stage where choosing need over talent gives them the missing piece that transforms them into a championship contender.
The last word is all yours, pookey. I respect your opinions, but you and I are never going to see eye to eye on this one. The Kings need to take the best player on the board this year when they pick, because they need more talent. If Wesley Johnson is the best player, then they have to take him, in spite of already having Casspi, Greene, and Nocioni on the roster. My hope is that the Kings will see enough in a guy like Udoh or Whiteside or Aldrich to convince them that they possess as much talent as Johnson and fill a need at the same time. But if that does not happen, default to talent.

Just so you know...
you are arguing with a guy who would rather have JT and Hawes over Chris Bosh, and thinks Rajon Rando is worthless. His opinion is equal to the dog poop on the bottom of my shoe.
Quick point on John Wall:
Dude has amazing LEFT hand. And he is right handed baller. His quickness is all-world, not all-american, or all-nba…ALL-WORLD. This might be a small concern if he dribbled to his strong side predominantly. But he is equally adept going left or right, so good luck to a defender favoring him in one direction.
The preceding is lost on Pookey Guru because he is too busy french kissing his own point of view.
John Wall is an amazing talent and if the Kings have the good fortune to draft him, we pick him without hesitation and don’t look back. Anyone who feels differently doesn’t know, um, well, pardon my french…. shit.
As an aside, I hope we bypass DeMarcus Cousins, at all costs…he is not ready to be a professional basketball player.
Hold now.
Never said I’d rather have JT/Shawes than Bosh. Never said that. Not once. And if I did, it was definitely sarcastic.
And Rondo? Yeah I don’t like him and I make no secret about that. I don’t want the Kings to acquire him either. Doesn’t he mean he sucks.

not true
I could find the post(s) if it was archived, and I had the inclination and desire to do so…but whatever….let chalk it up to, um…sarcasm…
that does not change the fact you fail to recognize the kings are talent deprived, and fail to recognize John Wall is a superstar talent. which any fan of basketball could discern.
If the Grizzlies and Thunder had to do it all over again, they would have drafted Tyreke Evans over Thabeet and Harden, and then balanced their roster at a later date.
Let’s see should we take a guy shooting 39% or a recent D-Leaguer, or a guy averaging 20/5/5….?? Hmmmm….? The same type of decision would present itself should we have opportunity to pick Wall over a project big.
Such is the predicament of lottery bound teams…you draft the BPA and sort it out after the fact. I hope we have the “problem” of a Tyreke-Wall backcourt, because the rest of the NBA will have much bigger problem trying to stop us.
John Wall is a BETTER prospect than Tyreke Evans, so whats not to like???

I meant everyday
except for draft day. I was here lurkin on the day we drafted Tyreke. I know better.
Fair enough
I will assume that Michael Jordan would have been Michael Jordan wherever he landed. You take your assumptions and I’ll take mine.
If the Kings have a shot at Wall, that likely means that they landed the top 1 or 2 pick. You draft the best talent when you have those picks, period. If you determine that Wall and Favors are equal prospects, for example, then by all means let need be the tie breaker. Otherwise, I’ll opt for talent.
And while we are on the topic of assumptions, just because you assume that Wall and Evans won’t work in the backcourt together does not make it true. Wall worked well with Bledsoe this year, who handled quite a bit for Kentucky.

This is how I see it, Pookey
Having a shot at Wall with one of the top picks even though we already have Tyreke on our team is like having a shot at acquiring a second wang. Now, you may think to yourself “I’m very excited about my current wang, it’s served me well, and frankly I’m not sure what I would do with a second one,” which may lead you to pass on this fantastic opportunity and take a safer prize instead.
But what if you could master that second wang, Pookey? Just imagine the glorious possibilities for a moment (okay, stop imagining them now, it’s getting creepy). It would be like having a Ferrari and a fighter jet. “Which one do I take to work today?” It doesn’t even matter, because you’re in for an awesome ride either way.
In conclusion, we should draft Johnson… wait, I’ve confused myself…

We got Tyreke and Beno and that's it
If we get the number 1 gotta go Wall. You will never agree, we can save the argument.
Hell, there shouldn’t even be an argument because it’s highly unlikely we get that number 1 anyways.
"Children want what they want when they want it." ... Andy Sims
If I had to pick having one of the two between Wall and Evans,
I’m not sure what I’d pick. Wall has more talent; he’s got Tyreke’s ability to get to the basket whenever he wants, but he’s also one of the fastest players in basketball, already has the passing touch we hope Tyreke develops, and is an absolute athletic freak. Really the only argument for Evans is that he’s already had a great rookie season. If Tyreke Evans plus a jump shot equals a superstar, John Wall plus a jump shot equals Jesus.
But that’s just my opinion.

Obviously I'm a big fan
He’s good at letting the game come to him. Baylor Gs have been the ‘stars’ for them all tournament so he’s numbers show that.
From what I’ve seen, I think he should be in play in the 8th-12th range.
"Children want what they want when they want it." ... Andy Sims
His line today
18pts on 6-14, 10 boards, 6 assists, 5 blocks
"Children want what they want when they want it." ... Andy Sims
Udoh = do want.
The shot blocking is very impressive, but he’s also a very solid ball-handler and can pass and dribble better than most big men. He actually reminds me of a more polished Joakim Noah, but not quite as good defensively. I’d love Udoh on the Kings.

It all depends where we pick
I’m not crazy about it. He’s not a top 5 pick, maybe not even a top 8, but as a big, he brings a lot to the table. Especially considering what the Kings need.
"Children want what they want when they want it." ... Andy Sims
Which is why Geoff would draft him regardless of our pick
Assuming its beyond the 5th pick (Favors or Cousins will still be around as long as Wesley Johnson stays in the draft). Why draft another wing player, or a big who doesn’t fit the need of the team when there is one there who still has much promise?
That I know
Petrie will draft whoever he wants with whichever pick he has. He’s usually right too so I’ll go with whatever he decides
"Children want what they want when they want it." ... Andy Sims
Geoff Petrie doesn't always go with whom he thinks is the best player.
He goes with whom he thinks the best player would be for the Kings all considered. If he really thought Francisco Garcia was better than David Lee, Monta Ellis and several other players taken lower than Cisco, I’d love to hear what his thinking was with no judgment’s made on my part.

Or maybe he thought
Cisco was the best player. He was just mistaken. He’s great at evaluating young talent but he will miss out on a couple prospects from time to time. No one hits them all out of the park
"Children want what they want when they want it." ... Andy Sims
And -
There is a different philosophy when you are drafting in the latter part of the first round. It is easier to take a shot for need at that point, as the possibility of landing an all star is greatly reduced. Also, if you have a latter first round pick, it means that your team is better and more developed (unless you’ve obtained the pick via trade, like the Kings with Casspi).

In his defense
Cisco provides a lot to a team that would be competing for the playoffs. As far as intensity, ball handling, intensity, and BB IQ
Ohh definitely
I’m not complaining at all. And like 214 writes, those were different times when we were picking in the 20s, with a somehow already established team. We weren’t building, we were just adding to what we already had

My POINT
Is that Petrie has a flexible draft strategy and doesn’t just employ one. The other point I’ve been trying to make (subtlety) is that sometimes you can’t just draft best talent, even at the top of the draft, every time.

Why is Wall even being discussed
Its a small percentage of ping pong balls. I’d rather be talking DeMarcus Cousins or Derrick Favor. I like Udoh but he’s barely a lottery pick. At least Wall and Evans are both “well-schooled” in Calipari’s dribble-drive offense. Wall doesn’t have Evans defensive willingness or grittiness after he’ll be AI’ed repeatedly with hard fouls near the rim.
Lottery balls land on DeMarcus Cousins baby.

Wow! Noce with 40mins today!
Led the team with 21 pts, 8-17FG, 5-7 from 3pt land, 5 rebs, 3 assists, 1 steal! Against LBJ and Jamison, no less!
This is a good start to this week for us! Maybe this is the week we make the “good” list. At the very least, we might get left off the Bad/Ugly lists.
There can only be one Noce!
Right, he had a good game. Period.
To be the best, you have to do your best. Otherwise, you are only second-rate.
No offense sir NoceOne
but Chapu has a reservation on the Bad or Ugly list each week, so unless he does this the rest of the week, no good for sir Chapu.
He did play well against the Cavaliers. Enjoy the moment.
To be the best, you have to do your best. Otherwise, you are only second-rate.
That's why I said it's a good start...
And yes, I’m hoping he does well the rest of the week, so we either make the Good list or get left off the bad/ugly list.
There can only be one Noce!
Haha high goals
When Noce seems to know he is going to get minutes he does a lot better. Knowing he was going to get playing time tonight he actually played within the system, rather than being a man man shooting team. I hope we get good Noce all week, cause when we get good Noce we are a lot more competitive. He has a scoring ability that no one outside Reke, Beno, and Landry have.
Actually, I'd settle for so-so games this week.
If Noce plays 5-8mins and goes 2-4 in each game, I think we have a good chance of making theGood list.
If he plays 5-8 mins and goes 1-3 or 0-2, we might still get left off the bad list.
But if he goes 1-8, we’re sunk.
There can only be one Noce!
Its sad that rooting for Noce has come to where he lands on the GB&U
I concur though with your sentiments. I do believe he will get more that 8 mins a game though.
It is sad that we have to focus on how many minutes Noc plays.
To be the best, you have to do your best. Otherwise, you are only second-rate.
Hey, don't be sad. You don't have to focus on that.
Let me and Chapuforyou do that. Focus on whatever it is you want to focus on.

we can’t really be attacked for Groupthink if we don’t all think the same way.
If we don’t give them that, what are the trolls going to say to us when their arguments are invalid.

Groupthink exclusion clause:
Those whose obsession of a particular person as evidenced by persistent ideas and thoughts of this person to the exclusion of others recognized by Groupthink are excluded. Such obsessive thinking makes one unable to be a member of a group in which it is necessary to yield to the desire for consensus or unanimity. Because of said obsession, there is an inability to conform to group norms.
For those suffering from such a malady, there is hope. Obsessional Thinkers Anonymous is a non-profit organization which provides confidential help to those whose obsession becomes uncontrollable. Just call the 24-hot line at 1-555-633-3457.
