Nope. It doesn't make a difference as I said. It'll be gone by the time we know what's what anyway.

Really hating the Pistons right now
Although if you have to be picking behind someone, why not the guy that picked Darko #2 and blew his cap space on Ben Gordon and Charlie Villanueva?!
Great point!
They are losing with as much emphasis as we are. They have some winnable games still, though.

I take that back
Stuckey, Prince, Hamilton, and Maxiell alone should have this team winning way more games. They are doing some serious tanking.

Here's hoping they win
Lets just hope a few guys off their bench want to stuff their stats for the off-season.
Question
I looked at both Kings’ and Detroit’s schedules….if the Kings lose the rest of their games and Detroit wins 1 (last game against Twolves)….how many more extra ping pong balls could the Kings get? In short, what are the realistic, possible scenarios for the Kings to move up and get more ping pong balls in there?

if anything, expect a tie
with the one extra ping pong ball going to whomever wins the coin flip tiebreaker. This would then split the chance (plus one ball) between these two teams.
Question: will both teams get #5 (8.8%) or #6 (6.3%) or both get 8.8% or 8.8 + 6.3 = 15.2 then divide by 2 (7.1%) ?
The answer is both teams will get 71 balls a piece. (coincidentally, the same number of virgins in paradise, though same it is 72, any Islamic Koran specialists here?)

Perhaps we should update this with True Strength of Schedule
taking opponents road/home records into consideration.
That would make the
Kings strength of schedule: .534
Pistons SoS: .515
Sixers SoS: .492
Pacers SoS: .453
Knicks SoS: .547
Clippers SoS: .568
(I excluded games played today).

But the Kings also play well against excellent competition.
They play hard. I wouldn’t be surprised if they only win 1 or 2 games, but I wouldn’t be totally shocked if they won 3 or 4 games either.

We'll tank hard the last few games especially
if Reke gets his 107th pt and 22nd reb before the last couple of games, safe to say that the team will shut him down for the year.
Leave the young guys (Brockman and anyone that matters) to log major minutes.
Tanking? I don't know what you're talking about, tanking. I'm just losing in new and unpredictable ways.
No we won't
The Kings are going to play to win. And they’ll probably still lose. Look at our competition for goodness sake. I see wins against the Clippers and Houston and that’s it.

I say win and the let balls fall where they may!!
Just fall for a Top 6 pick
Wall
Turner
Favors
Aldrich
Cousins
Udoh.. They will all help us with what we need, of course we will probably need to get a Haywood or TT and good combo gaurd that can defend in FA, then let the Karma Gods (Karma for not tanking) send us a taker for Nocioni and Garcia (wishful thinking) to relieve us of cap space.
"If my aunt had a set of nuts, she'd be my uncle"
Not related to this years lottery.
But have any of you seen josiah turner ball? Read about him in the bee today and watched some vid. Some crazy talent coming out of Sac High.
So as of 4/1 prior to any games
I am thinking the best the Kings can do is win 2 of the last 6….That puts them at 26 wins.
So if the Sixers go 0 for 7 ..its a tie (doubt it)
Detroit needs to win at least 3 of 8 or they finish with a worse record (3 is the best they can do)
Washington needs to go 4 and 4 or they can’t get to 26 (don’t see 4 possible)_
the Warriors need to go 5 and 3. (don’t see 5 possible)
Best guess now, picking 6th until the ping pong Gods move us to 9.
There are some guys smarter than me, some guys better looking, I take comfort in the fact that there is no guy that is both.
I would be ecstatic if we picked 6th
but most likely it will be 9 with the Hornets, Rockets, Warriors, or Clippers landing 1,2, & 3
I love beating dead horses.
something I've never quite understood about "tanking"
I can see why the management of a franchise might like to see their team improve their chances in the lottery by losing games down the stretch.
But what would the players gain by facilitating that race to the bottom?
Most of them have incentives in their contracts, not to mention big egos and personal pride. Plus, if a stud rookie joins the team the next season isn’t there a good chance that could threaten one of the current player’s starting job? I mean, I would think that the last thing Jason Thompson wants to see is Derrick Favors showing up at training camp next year.
Obviously tanking has happened in the past, but I’d love to know how the coach convinced his players to take a dive.

Good point on the players angle.
But I think a lot of players quit earlier than this point of the season. The Kings haven’t really quit on the season by any stretch. Injuries and bad timing have really been what’s done this team in.
EvilCowtownInc: Screwin Suckaz over since 1985......
No mistakes in the tango, Donna. Not like life. Simple. That's what makes the tango so great. If you make a mistake, and get all tangled up, you just tango on.....
right, I agree, pookey.
individual players may lose interest when they’re on a losing team and the season is drawing to a close.
But I’m wondering about this idea that players take a dive, tank games, whatever you wanna call it, to improve their team’s chances in the lottery. It’s just hard for me to fathom who would gain from that besides management. Doesn’t seem to be much in it for the players. Or the coaching staff.
And I definitely don’t think the Kings are tanking games. That game I saw at Arco against the T-Wolves a couple of weeks ago, they looked like they were fighting for a freakin’ playoff spot.! I’m going again on Tuesday vs the Spurs, and I bet they put in a decent effort.
They just don’t have the horses right now.
"When the going gets Weird, the Weird turn professional."

Yep we certainly agree
I see this team give effort every game. They don’t always do it well or with purpose, but the effort is there. You can’t say that about a lot of teams.

you answered one question with one of your answers
First off, they are a team. They enjoy wins and suffer losses together. No team does otherwise. You can recite to yourself all of the teams in NBA history both famous and infamous to make those words ring true. You play to win the games.
To be Sacramento specific; the 2001 Kings represented the heart of this meaning enough to make any fan on this site born before 1995 who watched them play embrace that image in their sports mind forever. The other end of the spectrum was last season’s model, particularly the one month following the trade deadline last February. Just guys sharing a uniform, a locker room and a paycheck signature. The “I showed up, now pay me” crew.
As for your players’ mindset I will apply this same logic. If Jason Thompson, whom I know you just use as a name rather than an example were of the type who felt that his interests were greater than that of the team, he wouldn’t deserve a minute on the court. And I respect the insights of Geoff Petrie, Wayne Cooper and Paul Westphal that they would feel the same. We watch the cars go around the track, the pit crew knows how the race car actually runs. The FO is the pit crew – they know.
To further your example – if Derrick Favors can be on my team and makes the Kings better, and have my team win more games, and maybe I will play better, and I will be on a winning team and I will have a chance to show everyone how good I am – I would bet JT would have this mindset. Look at JJ Hickson – don’t you think he is happier playing with LeBron than having better numbers on the Kings (substitute Hickson for JT).
Therefore, yes I think the players understand that they need more talent to compete with the best of the NBA and that it is sacrosanct to utter the “T” word (tank) they would absolutely love to have a higher draft pick come to the Kings. I don’t think they would like to lose more games to do it, but I don’t think they would argue with the increased chance to get better.

But yeah, David Lee is quite the player, and its not just D’Antoni’s system. I’d rather have him than any big on the Kings roster, including Landry.

Hey, I noticed today that if Reke gets 50 assists in the last 6 games(8.333 a game) he would end up with:

I remember some rumors last year as well, when Nate Robinson was coming. Hell, even before that one I thought I heard something.
You know, I’m not sure if Lee is the free agent to go for, but I sure love the fact that the Kings have pretty much unlimited options this summer. A good draft pick is coming in and we have enough space to make trades or sign a decent player. We’ll be adding this to Reke, Donte, Omri, JT, Hawes, Beno, Cisco, Landry, and a more experienced coaching staff.
I’m definitely excited to renew my game plan for next year.

yes,but if you can't have it all
and you can’t – he is a reasonable Max FA for the Kings to pursue. Again, on talent alone, and as this is Sacramento you know you have to overpay. He is young, he is getting better, I would be happy to have him on this Kings team.

The way things are looking
We’re getting a 5th-7th pick (unless we get lucky) and that’s bigs territory in this draft. Thinking about trading up or down?
"Children want what they want when they want it." ... Andy Sims
would it surprise you to see a trade deal?
Maybe the Kings evaluate the talent available and decide that they can swing a deal to bring in more established talent, or money deal, or future picks or both and trade down.
I would still say the Kings are pretty firmly placed at the 6th spot. Detroit is tanking. If they lose their last 7 and go 0 – 17 I would hope they get investigated. Having said that, I don’t what that means. Sanctions? give up their pick? Go to the end of the lottery? How do you prove it?
by betweentheeyes on Apr 2, 2010 11:31 PM PDT up reply actions
I would love to see the Kings move up
from 6th to 5th. But if they were 5th I would want them to move from 5th to 4th, etc.
But I don’t want them to move up by losing the rest of their games. It will play out how it plays out, and this subject will not rest until May 18th
by betweentheeyes on Apr 2, 2010 11:36 PM PDT up reply actions
That's the thing about tanking
No way to prove that and also they wouldn’t even know how to punish them.
As for the trade, it would surprise me but just becaue I don’t remember Petrie trading first rounders to acquire talent or making a big trade that included picks and young players. Maybe I have bad memory but it doesn’t really seem to be his style.
I’m down for whatever makes us a better team. I wouldn’t mind keeping the pick though. I think accumulating young talent gives us a chance down the road to trade a couple of those young players to get a nice piece.
Not that we will do it like Boston, but the Celts had enough talent to bring in KG. Accumulating young talent is hardly a bad thing, especially being a couple years away from being seriously considered a playoff team.

The Warriors could actually pass us
They’re 1.5 games back after tonight’s win against New York. The Warriors’ last few games include games against Washington, Minnesota, and the Clippers. The Kings’ remaining games are pretty much all brutal; we get the Clippers, but also play Portland, San Antonio, Dallas, Houston, and the L****s. It’s not at all inconceivable that Golden State could pass us up in the standings, or at least tie with us.

Nice night of NBA basketball
3 overtime games.
D Lee with an impressive triple double.
I find it interesting that if you look at the current standings: The point differential wins.
In the Western Conf. only those teams with positive diff (in green) 1-8. The rest of the teams are in the red. In the Eastern Conf. the top 7 are all green. The one red – Toronto fighting for the 8th spot.
Detroit with a double digit losing streak – 10 . The second longest losing strreak is the Kings with 6. On the other end. Phoenix Suns with 10 game winning streak, Miami Heat with a 7 game win streak. Great stuff.

curmmy tells very little and means less. It is the drama at the end that makes us look, isn’t it? As odd as it is, the Kings have more meaning to their last five games than the Girzzlies who have no shot at the playoffs and almost no shot at a significant draft pick.

no, this isn’t about RekeRoY’s 20-5-5 or what ever would the Kings do with both John Wall and Tyreke Evans in the backcourt – much more important:
Nellie’s Warriors have won another and sit just one game less in the loss column than their beloved East on I-80 rivals. I have paid for 4 frikkin’ season ending dinners in a row. I disallowed a forfeit just two months ago under the stupidity of fair play and niceguyness. I want to enjoy a Napa dinner – the chewiness of success, the juices of victory, the flourless chocolate just desserts that winners relish, with raspberry coulis and creme fraiche.
Please one more win should do it. We are talking about something important now. A tie is an unacceptable outcome – a cold toilet seat of a compromise. I am going to ARCO on Thursday, that would be as good a time as any.

My Ideas
Sign and trade for David lee
Knicks Sign Lee for 5 year 50 million-
Kings trade Spencer Hawes & Donte Green for David Lee
This Gives 3 man big rotation of Lee, Landry and Thomson (with Brockman thrown in there too)
I would envision having a rotation like this
Beno > Garcia
Tyreke > ??? >Udoka
Omri > Noc > Mcquire
Landry > Brockman >May
Lee > Thompson
I can See Brockman already working on his offensive game more, and hope he gets some real push on it this summer. he will be a great guy for cheap price that I don’t wanna see on another team. if it takes dumping may or Udoka to keep him then i say definitely..He will have some good talent in his 6’7" body. Also for how much the kings already promoted him and how cheap we could get him back for, I think its a must. This gives us 12 on the roster with a real need of a Shooting guard that can hit consistently from the outside to pair up Garcia with (Udokas not good enough for me for a bench player) and i am not sure enough about Mcguire yet to put him over Noc at this point.
Judgment day is coming!
We would have absolutely nobody that blocks shots..with poor perimeter defense
I see why everyone likes Lee but not on this team for this much money, It would remind me of overpaying Bibby or Peja..

All I said (and this was some months ago) was he’s a more talented big man than Spencer Hawes.
"When the going gets Weird, the Weird turn professional."
(Hunter Thompson)
I don't disagree;
it’s not always about talent, that is true.
My original point was that Blatche carried the Wizards to a win that could help the Kings’ lottery chances.
I just didn’t want pookey getting the wrong idea that I’m here to defend Blatche. He just happens to be one of several players who I mentioned some months ago who I thought were more talented NBA bigs than Spencer. The guy is probably a knucklehead but I definitely still stand by that assessment.
In fact, if anything I underestimated him. He’s more talented than I’d even thought.
"When the going gets Weird, the Weird turn professional."

Not arguing the talent with Blatche. I agree with you from a physical standpoint he has the offensive goods.

No mistakes in the tango, Donna. Not like life. Simple. That's what makes the tango so great. If you make a mistake, and get all tangled up, you just tango on.....
I think I have an idea of where you were trying to get at MM
But when we’re looking at players, IMHO, you have to look at the whole package. As an athlete, and as a player, maybe Blatche is more talented than Spencer Hawes. But if you’re looking to compare both guys, there’s no way you can ignore the baggage that Blatche brings.
The only way to compare both players is if you’re willing to say, I’ll trade Blatche for Hawes straight up and I’d totally do that for my team. I don’t think you can say that because of all the extra crap Blatche brings. Comparing them just as players is an incomplete process because that’s not how it would ultimately work in the league; you don’t just get the players, you also get the person, and in Blatche’s case, you get the inmature headcase.
And just for the record, I do know Blatche is just one of the examples you were bringing up. I just don;t agree is the correct one. Andrey Blatche for Spencer Hawes straight up right now? Count me out.
"Children want what they want when they want it." ... Andy Sims
Yep me too (Blatche & Hawes straight up).
I’d rather have Landry.
EvilCowtownInc: Screwin Suckaz over since 1985......
No mistakes in the tango, Donna. Not like life. Simple. That's what makes the tango so great. If you make a mistake, and get all tangled up, you just tango on.....
Again; Landry has nothing to do with it.
I’d rather have him too, but luckily he’s already on the Kings, so we can save that wish for a rainy day.
What this is about, pookey, if you recall, is that some months ago you got on my case for unfairly criticizing Spencer and you challenged me to name some NBA big men who I thought were better than him and who could actually be acquired (which I took to mean had fairly similar salaries). I named 7 or 8 guys and Blatche was on that list. Hence the Blatche/Hawes comparison.
(Although in this case all I was doing was pointing out that Blatche had done the Kings a favor by leading the Wizards to a win.)
"When the going gets Weird, the Weird turn professional."
(Hunter Thompson)
I'm pretty sure the Wizards would feel the same way, edm.
I mean, we can agree that Spencer Hawes has very diminished value as an NBA big man right now, right? He hasn’t played like anything close to what you want to see from a lottery pick in his third season. Not as a defender, not as a rebounder and not even as a scorer, which is supposed to be his forte. He has shown a few glimpses, and he still has youth on his side, but on the other hand, Spencer also has a significant history of knee injuries, and he has some baggage and attitude concerns himself.
By contrast, Blatche might be a complete d-bag, but I’ve been following pro basketball long enough to know that even complete d-bags are a valuable commodity in the NBA if they average about 24 pts a game while displaying the kind of skill on the court that Andray Blatche has been doing since he became a starter. The guy has a real shot at winning the Most Improved Player award, and the Wizards have him locked into a very reasonable deal for two more seasons.
So while I respect the team loyalty and I’m not saying Blatche would be a good fit on the Kings, frankly there’s no comparison between the two players. One is succeeding in the NBA and the other has a career that’s on the brink of being a major disappointment.
"When the going gets Weird, the Weird turn professional."

I can agree with you when it comes to the player on the court
But I won’t agree about rather having Blatche than Hawes. It’s not just about basketball, and I wouldn’r bring Blatche into this situation to mess with the good things we have going. I’d rather have someone less talented than isn’t going to bring problems off the court, than a very taleneted player than will be looking for his own stats and be a distraction off the court on such a young team.
I believe the whole argument centered around who would you rather have instead of Spencer Hawes, and Andrey Blatche IMHO, is the wrong answer.

Actually, to make my thoughts more clear
If you proposed Sean May fro Andrey Blatche, it’d still be a no-go.
"Children want what they want when they want it." ... Andy Sims
I get what you're saying, but look at it this way, edm.
I’m not a fan of Blatche particularly, but if the Kings had him instead of Hawes they at least would have a valuable commodity with a sweet contract.
That translates into a very tradable piece that could return a player we both like better. I think that’s how a GM would approach it.

(Hunter Thompson)
I don't agree about the valuable commodity so much.
Blatche has a reasonable contract, but he’s a guy who has never really shown the ability to lead a team to victories.
You mention his PPG MM, which is fine, but you are ignoring that the Wizards aren’t winning either despite all this increased Blatche scoring.
There are 2 sides to every story.

And you & I agree on Derrick Favors. So really that's the important point.

Oh and another point
Let’s say Al Jefferson didn’t have the contract he does, would he be as valuable as Blatche if his contract was similar to Blatches?

I'm not sure that's fair
That Wizards franchise would be pretty difficult for one player to turn around, so laying that on Blatche’s shoulders is unfair. Kevin Martin got the same rap here – but I think in both cases, the talent around them has as much to do with the team’s failure.
I've got squirrels in my pants!
Yeah but the difference is that Martin was valuable in the sense that other team did in fact want to acquire him.
I’m sure there are teams that would acquire Blatche, but I doubt any high number level of assets are going to be give up in that transaction.
Yes, I’m not being fair to Blatche. Until he had that lil blowup with Flip Saunders, I was ready to say he had turned a corner. Now, I’m not.

Yep
I’m not a huge advocate of needing a bunch of good character, rah-rah guys on the team, but this guy even makes me squeamish. Combine his brouhaha with Flip Saunders and the video of him chasing the triple double and you get a guy that’s probably not going to quit being a d-bag anytime soon.
Normally, you’d say that a guy with his numbers and contract would fetch some nice offers – but I agree that he’s probably acquirable relatively cheap.
I've got squirrels in my pants!
He's also the same idiot who got caught soliciting a few years ago.
That’s not a big deal, but still, he ain’t the brightest bulb out there. (And that’s the point.) If you want a hooker, there are much easier ways than to get one on the street.

That's a good point
I think as an asset he is valuable because there will be teams that would take the gamble on him. He’s a good player with potential, he just needs a good situation or just a team willing to take his baggage.
When it comes to the Kings, he’s not worth it. But every team has a different situation.
"Children want what they want when they want it." ... Andy Sims
But for the record
I think Hawes is also a valuable asset to the Kings franchise. Maybe not proven, but skilled 21 year olds will always be in demand
"Children want what they want when they want it." ... Andy Sims
This whole argument is very moot when it comes to Blatche.
The Wiz are not likely to give him up for anything the Kings would want to give up.

I'd rather have Blatche, from the talent standpoint
And I’m not a huge believer in making a guy’s attitude a major factor in the decision making, but damn…this guy is hard to root for. I don’t know what it is, but he “feels” like the kind of guy you’ll always have issues with – and will eventually translate to his on-the-court play.
I’d take the guy for a trial run, but wouldn’t want to invest a lot at this stage of his career.
I've got squirrels in my pants!
ok, I will say it
25 wins for the season and the 4-6 lottery spot is just fine with me*.
- disclaimer: Warriors cannot win anymore games – Dinner is May 8th. I would be okay to split the check but man, keeping the plastic in my pocket for the meal sounds better.
Reasonable disclaimer to me.

Updated after tonight's games
Really good final scores out there for Kings lottery chances
"Children want what they want when they want it." ... Andy Sims
Detroit probably has one more win in them
They’re playing good lately, and they should beat Minny at least. Philly might or might not, same with us. I like GS chances against the Clips because they just look like they don’t care right now. We’re not going to catch the Clips or Knicks so I’m not too worried about that.

Actually
I think we beat Houston. Gonna say it now.

Yep, that's a definite possibility.
and that’s cool. What we want is to see the Wizards TCB vs the Knicks and the Pacers.

If we top out at 26
We have a pretty decent shot at the 4th worst record, yeah? Nets, T-Wolves, Dubs, then us or the Wizards.
That 4th slot, which realistically is the best we can hope for in terms of lottery odds, gives us a real good chance at Favors.

Sixers and Pistons would have to win one more time.
Grandmaster of the "Never let AnotherStupidSN forget what a Sham-Wow is" Order and Originator of the "Brock Ness Monster".
OK, good! Sixers got the "W' tonight
and you gotta think Detroit has a decent shot of picking up a win either at home vs the Raptors or against the T Wolves on Wednesday.

So after tonight's loss to Mavs
Kings can’t catch the Knicks so they are out. If Clips beat GS they will also be out of reach

Kings very well may get it just cuz the Rox & Lakers will be playing hard to win. Even without Kobe for the Lakers.

The Lakers didn’t get out of the 1st round for awhile with Kobe Bryant on the team. So, it does happen.
