Great FanPost from Blog-A-Bull Regarding Sign & Trades
I would normally FanShot this, but I wanted it up in the FanPosts, since that is its origin. YaoPau from over at Blog-A-Bull (great SBN site, by the way) posted this very informative FanPost that canvasses the recent history of sign and trades. As this would be a possible vehicle for the Kings (numerically, anyway) I thought that it might interest folks here.
Hat tip and thank you to YaoPau and Blog-A-Bull for the knowledge and the great read.
(Note - If you want to converse on this post and how it could impact the Kings, thread here. If you want to give YaoPau his props, thread at B-A-B.)

YaoPau is awesome in many respects.
I’ve long been a fan of his writings over there.
No mistakes in the tango, Donna. Not like life. Simple. That's what makes the tango so great. If you make a mistake, and get all tangled up, you just tango on.....
I'm not sure Donald Sterling is a human being. He had to have been manufactured by someone, possibly David Stern, so that one team could solely just make profit for the NBA while doing nothing good for themselves. -- Aykis 16
Also
He had a tremendous fanpost on Joe Johnson too.

That one got linked to by Yahoo.
Good stuff, and spells out a lot of the reasons I don’t want the Kings to go after Johnson either.

Yep. As I said, YaoPau knows what's up.

Looks like an assinine or not so trade thread to me
Jason Thompson to Charlotte for a sign & trade with Tyrus Thomas. Come on GP make it happen!
Pretty good read though thanks for the link. I’m going to check out the Joe Johnson read here in a minute.
I love beating dead horses.
I'm interested to see
If any of these max deal guys don’t end up going the sign-and-trade route. If so, and they do a straight free agent signing, aren’t they giving up a substantial amount of money?

An extra year and money.
But if their teams don’t want to sign them, they’re SOL too. It’s a 2 way street.

For most of these guys
Wouldn’t their teams want to sign them, even if they subsequently trade them? Otherwise, they are losing a pretty valuable asset and getting nothing in return.
Could you imagine the Cavs losing LeBron or Miami losing Wade…and not getting anything back?

Yes. I can.

I can too Pookey but...
I think some of these teams might be hoping that if they lose their free agent, it’s to the Knicks and maybe, just maybe Donny Walsh takes care of Lee by doing a double sign and trade to facilitate the deal. If the Knicks know they are going to get a two players, say Amare and Joe Johnson, then Lee get’s kicked to the curb. But if Phoenix were to say, hey guys, since you’re going to have torenounce Lee anyway, how about we make everyone happy with 6 year deals and we take on Lee. I could see Utah jumping on something like this as well if Lee came at a decent price. Lee would probably jump at it as well because he would get his 6th year.
The Sacramento Convergence concept offers Sacramento, the Central Valley, and the State a solution to feasibly construct a new multi-use Entertainment and Sports Complex.
I don't think Phoenix will be taking on long term money.

I think they will, just not Amaré type money.
Amaré isn’t worth the 17 million starting figure that he is going to try and get. If Phoenix can take back a 10-11 million starting figure contract like Lee I think they would go for it. The reason they wanted to deal Amaré originally is because when he leaves, they lose an all-star caliber player but only have 7 mill in cap space to replace him.

I think they were looking for real talent that they want to keep Steve Nash around long term.
But short of that, I think the plan was always to let Amare walk and trade Nash this off-season. Nothing has changed that plan from what I can tell.

Steve Nash is a Brett Favre type player in many ways
They can’t, or shouldn’t deal him, he is too old to build around.
In Phoenix’s case they don’t want to spend anymore money and they don’t want to alienate their fan base.
In Green Bay’s case – they went ahead and let Brett go, and well, the rest is sports talk history.

Fickle fanbase fosho.
Phoenix has very little natural fan base due to it’s transplant population. When the team is good, they become the cool the spot. When they suck, the community moves on to cactus farming and shit.

Sarver is a wiggy owner. He is a charming Donald Sterling.
Sterling makes no bones about the fact that he is pompous business guy with profits his first priority. Sarver has the legacy of Colangelo(s) and Fitzsimmons with some legit NBA cred so he gets more credit than he deserves IMO.
It is like he is at the poker table. He checks his cards (has his Nash Ace and currently his Amar’e picture card), bluffs a bunch and antes up as little as he needs to stay in the hand.
