"Maybe I practiced too hard in the beginning. In the first three months, I didn't take a day off at all. I'd come to lift (weights) when we had days off. Maybe practices I should rest a little bit. … That's something to learn for the future. I didn't know how to practice for 82 games."

I've said this before.
Rest, including adequate sleep is an important part of any training regimen. Muscles don’t grow when you are lifting weights. Muscles are broken down during training. Rest is a time when the body repairs itself and develops muscle. If a person is constantly working out, practicing, playing games, making appearances, it can run the body down. That is a lot of stress. Once an athlete finds himself in a deficit position, then he has to slow down his pace to allow his body to rebound. Omri has been trying to balance a very full schedule. I am not surprised that he has worn his body down. I think Coach Westphal is doing the correct thing, by imposing some rest for Casspi.
To be the best, you have to do your best. Otherwise, you are only second-rate.
Thats why they do alternate days on muscle groups

I am really hoping Casspi doesnt have mono
he is at the age when most kids get it, and obviously been working really hard. If Jim Ryun got it is a real possibility
Did you give it to him? Your screen name is suspect.

I will say that I am tired of the ethnic “Jew” jokes that consistently come up for Casspi.

I'm wondering
shouldn’t the training staff have been more involved and proactive? These are the guys with experience and the knowledge. Didn’t they give Omri some guidelines on how to train and when to rest?

a few games, hell i think Reke should take a game or 2 off
Omri has been as open about hitting the rookie wall as any player
In fact I’m pretty sure he may be the only player to have been this honest about hitting it ever. Most rookies deny feeling tired out by the longer schedule regardless of how tired they seem.
It’s going to be interesting to see how he handles his commitments this summer. It’s always an issue with foreign players. Their national team is an important thing, one that’s hard for us to understand. I hope he plays in the Summer League. I’m not sure from the building the team standpoint how important the LVSL is but I don’t think that Spencer has gotten over the hit his reputation took from blowing off the Summer League last summer.
I know Omri got a lot of negative press because he chose not to play with the national team last summer. As they get older it’s common to see players opt out of playing for their national team but most still play as Pau Gasol, Hedu and Dirk did last summer. Omri is going to be playing for the starters job next season and he has to come in in top shape ready to play at his highest level. It’s going to be interesting to see what choices he makes this summer. If he hadn’t had such a break out season this year it would been less of an issue.

Was just thinking about that myself
I wonder if the first season or two is tougher on players coming from overseas. Besides most of them having commitments to their country’s teams (as you noted), they are also making a much larger adjustment in style of living than domestic players. I bet these guys get mentally worn out as much as physically.

I think both points are a factor
In Onri’s case, there’s also the matter that he was playing about 20 minutes per game at Macabbi. He’s playing much more games, and more minutes.

Is playing for the national team not a big deal in the US?
Their national team is an important thing, one that’s hard for us to understand.
Why is that hard to understand, for a country where patriotism plays such a big role? Playing for the national team is the biggest honor there is for a professional sportsman in Europe.
Perhaps playing in the NBA is more meaningful, but the opportunity to defend the colours of your country is big.
Dunking Dutchman
It's not as big of a deal here if a player doesn't want to play.
Because let’s say if Kobe didn’t want to play, a Joe Johnson or a Brandon Roy wouldn’t be a terrible replacement. But who would replace Omri?
This is what happens when you bench Chapu.
Your rookies get tired.
"Oh, y ahora ¿quién podrá defenderme?" "¡Yo!"
And when you do play him
Your rookies get pissed.

Omri's time off the court
His time spent off the court representing his country may have been just as or more taxing for him than playing too. How many rookies do you see this year meeting the public before and after games like Omri has? I think zero. How many rookies have had the pressure of not only representing himself, his team, but their country like Omri has? Once again, zero.
Mental fatigue as be just as taxing as physical fatigue. Add them together and get you get one worn out dude.

people
need to calm down and relax… he’s not soft, i like his hustle and his D so far, and his offensive game and rebounding is solid too. He’s just a rookie and getting used to the scene and the work that goes into an entire NBA season. Much to do about nothing in my opinion. If we were playing for a playoff spot and he sat or something it would be one thing, but we are no where near that, so who cares.
Agreed
5th in minutes amongst NBA rookies, and has had to carry the torch of an entire nation all year.
It’s been a long time since we’ve given rookies minutes like Evans and Casspi have received. It’s easy to forget the adjustment that these guys have to make.

I'm not sure Donald Sterling is a human being. He had to have been manufactured by someone, possibly David Stern, so that one team could solely just make profit for the NBA while doing nothing good for themselves. -- Aykis 16
Conditioning will be important next season,
the fact that a euro player didn’t pace himself in his rookie season in the NBA should be no surprise. Tyreke might not be taking a game or practice off, but he certainly has been taking some plays off in some games.
Even Martin said that the Kings style of play didn’t condition him to play under Houston’s style of offense. And, the Kings haven’t been a good 4th quarter team all season, which could be because of conditioning.
JR said in the telecast, that when players get burned out, you can rest them in practice just as well as in games. So, maybe the coaching staff is at fault to some extend. But, we’ve had injuries all season that have placed a heavy burden on both off our top rookies, so I don’t think any less of them, and know that they will have learned a valueable lesson that should make them more prepared next season.
