Around SBN: Trent Richardson Interviews Fellow Brown Brandon Weeden

By handing [Brandon] Jennings the trophy, this is not meant to diminish [Tyreke] Evans’ accomplishments one bit. Averaging 20.2 points, 5.2 rebounds and 5.8 assists per game is impressive, but his team will be watching games on T.V. past April 15th once again.

Aron Phillips of Dime Magazine throws all common sense out the window. I hope people with actual votes don't feel this way.

Honestly, the guy makes some sense.
Averaging 20.2 points, 5.2 rebounds and 5.8 assists per game is impressive.

The rest of the article is garbage, however.

Indeed

And I like Jennings. But the fact is his team has improved by 7 games over last year…and Tyreke’s team has improved 7 games over last year. The fact that they are currently a 5 seed in a weak conference isn’t overly impressive to me.

Kings improved by 7 wins

Tyreke has three game winners, and countless other times lead us to victory on his shoulders alone.

Bucks improve by 7 wins and Jennings has a much improved Andrew Bogut to thank for that.

If we traded Spencer for Bogut straight up

the Kings would have a much better record, but the Bucks would still make the playoffs in a weaker Eastern Conference.

The reason the Bucks ARE making the playoffs is Bogut.

And Ridnour’s improvement.
And Jennings being a stud rookie. But even if he wasn’t, they’d still be a playoff team.

Aron Phillips must be Brandon Jennings' pen name for Dime Magazine

Because this article reaks of stupid. Bogut is the reason they are doing so well. He’s having a monster season. Plus, like Aykis said they’re getting a lot of good stuff from their role players. Plus Salmons adds a Reke-like presence to their team, in that he can get to the rim with ease and score tons of points. Obviously he’s not as good as Tyreke is but it just goes to show that the skills he brings have been huge to that team. Tyreke could replace both Salmons and Jennings on the Bucks and they’d have the same record.

www.mancancook.net

by vfettke on Apr 1, 2010 4:15 PM PDT reply actions

exactly!

What everyone has to look at is when did the bucks go on that big run? It was when they got Salmons. They had cooled off quite a bit and were not in the playoff race untill they made the trade. Its not like he is singlehandely bringing them into the playoffs. I can’t understand why know one can see this.

Sometimes you just have to look yourself in the mirror and say....Tyreke Evans.
That just happened.

by darkadun on Apr 1, 2010 4:24 PM PDT up reply actions

Spurs will make the playoff in a much tougher conference

So let’s give it to Dejaun Blair. How abouy Ty Lawson? Nuggets are 5th in the west. Truth is they mean as much to their teams making the playoffs as Jennings does. You can’t tell me Bucks wouldn’t be in the playoffs if Ridnour was the starting PG.

by allbenji's on Apr 2, 2010 12:03 AM PDT up reply actions

Well that's going to be half my reply

The other half is that it proves how pointless awards are when you get a player like Reke not getting 1.

People have to realize something: Some of this is just rival pundits trying to big time the Kings out of a major award. There are a lot of people that don’t want Reke to get it. They’re going to run their mouths. But, most people in the NBA and most voters don’t care.

If you want to react about this now, then fine. But this stuff is pretty pointless if you ask me.

Again

Why would he get screwed? Neither Curry or Jennings play for teams that the national sportswriters respect, so what is the bias involved here?

You worry too much. Reke is rookie of the year, and one stupid Slam article isn’t changing that…

by allbenji's on Apr 2, 2010 8:54 AM PDT up reply actions

Remember

For publications like Dime and Slam, who were quick to paint Jennings decision to play in Italy as a trailblazing slap in the face to the power consortium of the NCAA/NBA, Jennings hyperbolic success in the league is an imperative, particularly in the wake of the Tyler Smith fiasco. If Jennings can skip a season of college ball and win ROY than all that early November “this kid is changing the game” bandwagon press, press that seems excessive retrospectively but at the time justified the drumbeat that a player could skip a year of college and still flourish as well as anyone who spent six months with Calipari, then even superfluous praise is validated. Slam and Dime, Dime in particular, have taken up a subjective cause and Jennings is their poster child. Consequently you can hope for only limited objectivity.
